Recently, Blade and I decided that we needed to rent a server. We got somewhat tired of mass complaining and a lack of new maps on our favorite servers. I also needed a solid place to have AoD match and practice.
We decided to rent from SST, a 14 slot server. We also decided to use quite a few maps in the rotation. The server is physically located in California. We are still looking for a great game.qvm (suggestions appreciated).
So what makes our server different from anywhere else? Hopefully, the playerbase. Of the 14 slots we rented, usually only two will be public. You won't have any trouuble getting the password, but to do so, you will be required to read the rules, and follow them.
We encourage the use of teamspeak, and I'll probably be hanging out on it most of the time.
We're not going to go crazy and set 100 admin. We will carefully select who has the priveledge to admin the server, and don't expect free admin if you are in AoD, it's equal-opportunity.
I really hope this will catch on with some respectable players. I know most of our friends from DarkLurker's Lair have given it a shot, and I hope the rest of you will consider it as a regular hangout, too.
Blade set up a small forum for the server at http://z4.invisionfree.com/Tremulous_Server
If you have any questions, feel free to IM me, my AIM name is ozzy@darklurker.net 8)

Hey, dunno if you guys know, but SST offers hosting for forums on our fourm, free.
And the qvm we use is good, but old. If you wanted a copy, we could give it to you.

enjoy.

Spam post.
This one, however, has a point, other then the one above which had a proble, expressed it, and solved it in one post, therefore being unneeded.

I suggest a custom compiled QVM, its the only way to have a good server. Because most easy to get QVMS have lame ass features that can't be properly disabled (knockback, anyone?)
-
(knockback, anyone?)
I'm sorry, what?
I went and checked.
If you do mean knockback and not kickback or shove (quite ignoring the fact that all three can be disabled), it's been in svn since revision 11 most likely as part of the quake3 source.
Not everyone has the expertise to compile their own QVM.
That said, since Risujin is no longer updating his own, I may start my own snowball QVM thread based svn939 (don't know how long it will last with impending 1.2.0 release, but it won't be that hard).
If you want a pre-existing QVM modified with feature X and can get me the source, I'll do it when I have a free moment.

smokey is talking about risujin's game.qvm that put knockback on all alien weapons, and there was no way to disable it without disabling all knockback.
-
yes risujin needs to make a service release
-
OPP qvm has the normal knockback. Although I admit the range is a little long on aliens, over balance mod lite.(nerfed range some more).
I am a luci jumper I couldnt stand balance mod lite because if knockback was normal alien knockback was too high. But if u turned it off you couldnt luci jump.
I dont notice much of a range difference between Beergarden and OPP which is where i play most.
