i think that you should be able to build fake reactors and om. what do you think
-
Reminds me of red alert...
-
Do they still hurt when you walk up to them?
-
No.
-
Reminds me of red alert...
That's a good game.
I think fake buildings should take up 5 bp each.
-
Wait a sec, hasn't this been mentioned a while back...
Shot down, if I recall.
-
Not that I remember.
-
Well, the idea wasn't shot down, but here it is for reference purposes.

Why the heck does no Isrealite complain about this great abuse of the Canaan-Dog? :D

I just don't see the point in this. Why not save those build points to build defenses for what you already have, instead of structures that don't do anything but take up space. Real or not, they're gonna get attacked, and the people will simply not destroy them, knowing they just waste build points for the other team.
If it's not attacking you, you'll know it's obviously fake or has no power, in which case you should be attacking more important objectives.

please instead of posting words, post funny pics either saying 'do want' or 'do not want' k thx

I reckon fake OM should replace Barricade..but like a hovel, only one should be built 8)
-
I don't see a problem.
It would add a level to tactical gameplay.

!! We should have a fake barricade !!
..As is on these maps i don't really see the added benefit of faking structures. I don't think it will actually provide any significant strategic advantage. Unless you are going to try to make it convincing and build a defense for it and waste more points/evos to defend a useless structure...
-
On a related note, the map Kamalkael [sp?] features a fake Overmind and hive both housed in glass cases, as if they were in a museum display.
-
OMG HoloDuke!
-
Kind of a good idea I guess, and if you were a rifleman, or whatever, you wouldn't necessarily know that it was fake, as I at least when using a long range weapon (which at las count is almost all) I do not get within OM striking range. Lol can you imagine Harwes, or some other infinite bps server with fake OMs!!!! that would rule.

I'm pretty sure it was a serious suggestion, and I don't think it would be a half bad idea. Although the MAX LIMIT would have to be three, and there would be the disadvantage of space takeups. Would they have health? Or would they just disappear when shot?
-
I don't think this is a very good idea, since it'll probably make the game confusing. Imagine trying to attack a base and seeing fake reactors/OMs everywhere... or fake reactors/OMs being used as barricades. You could put a limit on how many you build, but it would still look really stupid. And imagine how frustrating it would be to destroy a reactor/OM, tell your team to attack, and then realize that it was actually a fake one...
I'll say no to bases looking like this:
:turret: :reactor: :reactor: :reactor: :armoury: :medstat: :telenode: :reactor: :reactor: :reactor: :turret:
-
Who needs barricades when you can build walls of fake Overminds =D
Come to think of it.. who needs barricades anyway >.<
-
Anybody looking to make saw rushes a waste of credits, I'd venture. :P
-
I think standard should be that you can only have 1 real OM (duh) and one fake one at a time, same with reac.
-
sif fake rc, have 2 REAL rcs ftw.

wanna bet? i'm Gumbie, i can shit ya's all with teh saw/luci but when it comes to flames and pulses, i'll let the noobs do that 4 me :)
basses looking like THIS r FTW!

Mind Device(?)
The device would send out a pulse which affects the minds of humans, making the device seem like it's the Overmind.
Perhaps also, humans that get near it would see the fake Overmind attacking them and their HP goes down, but this is all a fake: their HP isn't really going down, and if it goes below zero it will restore and they'll know for sure it's a fake.
Requires stage 2 (or 3) to build. Uses half of the points the Overmind needs.
Fake Reactor
It's actually a repeater built inside a fake reactor shell. It is unable to attack, and for the rest acts like a repeater. It can be used to distract enemies effectively.
Requires stage 2 to build. Uses the same points needed for a Repeater, and a bit more for the fake shell.
Either this, or you could go with the original idea and make it a holographic reactor. In this case, the bounding box would have to change. But at least then you could make it appear to attack aliens (although they won't lose HP, nor will they see them losing it like humans do).

-
Heh, you could easily make the model noticeably larger than the bounding box. Just need to add a bluish texture looking from the inside of it.
-
Hmm... What about this:
Allow Humans to spawn holographic (thus NOT collision-based! You can walk through them!) projections of buildings. They can do this at S2, at which point a hologram will cost as much as the building it replicates, and at S3, at which point they cost only half the cost of the original building... Or maybe at S2 the costs should be a bit lower...
Holograms act as follows:
Holograms are not collidable: you can walk through them.
If an alien comes close to a hologram, the hologram will go partially translucent with a blue-ish hue.
If a Human touches a hologram, the hologram will go partially translucent, too.
Whenever a power surge occurs, a hologram will go translucent for a few milliseconds. Power surges occur when:
1) An alien attacks a Human building
2) Humans build buildings
3) Humans build holograms (power surge twice as long as a normal power surge)
4) There is no power at the hologram (infinitely long power surge)..
Making a holographic Reactor will cost 20 build points, by the way.. :P
As for aliens: I'm not sure. Maybe it'd be nice if you'd let them build 'fleshy pods'. Basically, a pod is a fleshy membrane filled with acid and fleshy goo, which once it is ruptured (destroyed) gets spread out like regular alien building explosions, hurting humans, but only a little (5hp max?).
Fleshy pods should be insanely cheap (2BP? maybe more?), fast to build and come in various colours and sizes, which are randomly chosen to ensure extreme 'chaos' in a Fleshy-pod infested Alien base. So basically, fleshy pods make it hard for humans to walk through an alien base (they need to jump more often) and they obscure alien buildings a bit because there are SO MANY buildings on the screen, which makes it hard to notice what buildings you should target.
Fleshy pods should be killable by 1/4th of a Rifle clip. They're weak. :)
-
Each rifle bullet does 5dmg.
You said the pod should have 5hp.
That's a lot less than 1/4 of the clip.
Just pointing that out.
-
No, he said each pod should do 5 hp damage.
How about just making them proximity mines? One-shot annoyances that make base maintenance a little harder and more strategic for aliens, but bases a little more varied and effective.
-
Requires stage 2 to build. Uses the same points needed for a Repeater, and a bit more for the fake shell.
So that's the cost of the fake shell + zero. ;)
-
Mind Device(?)
Requires stage 2 (or 3) to build. Uses half of the points the Overmind needs.
So, that's 0 divided by 2?

Something tells me this guy didn't do his homework. ^^
A prime candidate for my 'half-baked ideas' thread.

Howabout aliens can build a fake reactor. Some humans gather around it, and then the fake reactor, which is actually a meat eating plant, eats all humans near by?

I suggest being able to evolve into an Overmind. Upon doing so, the previous Overmind promptly explodes. It would have no extra features other than the ability to view others happily move around while you're pathetically fixed to your spot.
For the sake of balancing, the humans are able to buy a Reactor-suit. This CAN move.. but only just.
Unlike the Overmind, the Reactor-suit is more like a repeater as it does not generate it's own power.
Like the Reactor, the Reactor-suit is fitted with a 'zap', and no other weapon can be held while wearing it. Nor can you buy armour (as the Reactor-suit IS your armour). You can't buy a battery-pack (because you are one) and you can't buy a grenade (because I say so). You can however buy a jetpack. This, like walking, is movement.. just very slow movement.
Also, dretches explode like nukes and humans are made of chocolate.
So what you're suggesting is the aliens should get the Reactor-suit =D
Here's an artists rendering of the concept:

Very nice Nux. I will print it out and hang it in my bedroom above my desk.
.....but shouldn't it have dretch feet. if you could ask your artist friend, that would be awesome.

This gives a new twist in yer ol' Mutual Destruction siggy.

I told myself that, but I wouldn't listen. I said to me how I made that before the alien-version was mentioned. I wouldn't make a new one for the aliens so I had to make it instead. Here it is:

Yeah. I remember that sig.. I miss it already.

Wow Nux, you excelled yourself. This is beautiful. You even have the right number of lil sticky dretchlegs. Needless to say that this also makes all discussions about new tremulous application icon obsolete.
And ye, i liked your old sig too, was maybe the only happy sig on these forums :D (on the other hand, its never wrong to move one ;-))

That reactor with legs is an excellent example of an acceptable Tremulous application icon. The first one, not the second one.

So, all those years of training in the use of MS Paint have not been in vain!
-
The real question is: Can you make an OM with boobs?
-
Lawl. Before we do that, we need a Female Hummie.
Unfortunately, If we get a Female Human, people will demand aliens with sexual organs, or even worse, pornographic granger photos. Imagine the possibilities. Or, well don't.
-
a way you could tell its fake is if you get hurt from it.
can someone put it in a mod to try it out
-
I'm pretty sure we shot this one down.
