"but in Soviet Russia, people are muted by YOU!!"
In this post i shall compare my experience on an anonymous clan server (certainly no LaD Benmachine server of any kind) to a totalitarian state, and the attempt at building an effecient human base on previously mentioned server, to attempting to run a business in previously mentioned communist regime (oh, did i say totalitarian state? i meant the USSR).
So all i wanna do is start a business in some supposedly empty area (LaD server), the owners of which i presume myself to be friends with (as one's family member might hold an office, one's friends may hold adminship). So i start a business in a place with no present competition (no one else on server) and i get it started beautifully, the business is ready to tackle the market in no time, and i am certain it will hold market share (my base is built and im waiting for aliens to join). So i have a finished business, and a competitor arrives (someone joins). My competitor is government-run, but it seems like a valuable ally, and we are able to do business together admirably, each testing each others accounting innovations (some LaD dude and I mess around for a bit, and figure out how to build a better base in the process). BUT, in the midst of all this fun, another government official comes along, this one is not as satisfied with how i run my business. I understand that one of the footnotes of Communism is that the only thing it takes to have power is to be at the right place at the right time (he is only an admin cuz he is in LaD, not becase of how fair or capable he is). He decides to take over my business, in the process reducing my yield and increasing my costs (he takes down my 15x massdriver turrets and builds 1x MD turrets that cost more BP and are nearly twice as large). Having worked so hard to start up my business, and seeing it torn down by an ignorant undeserving ruffian in a mere minute, i decide to protest (i ask him kindly not to build those, and tell him that mine were better). But the ruffian thinks he knows better (he ignores me), so i instead yell at him a little, and try threatening him (i deconstruct him in a vain attempt to stop him from ruining my base). This official is only angered by my attempts (he gets pissed off), so he removes my right to run my business and bans me from further social contact for the rest of my life (i can no longer build, and i am muted), all because of a conflict of interest.
crap like this happens all the time in the real world, but thats what the real world has hippies for, and the hippies think they can empathise. In the real world people learn from their mistakes, and choose to elect more qualified officials.
On the other hand, one fruit of that was the wonderful man George Dubya Bush, who certainly doesnt veto bills proposed by the people he supposedly works for for the sinple reason he doesnt like the sound of them... Nope, he shure doesnt do any of that...
And neither did PeeBrain of the LaD clan...
P.S. Im suggesting we dont try to elect more qualified officials, im suggesting we remove the officials altogeter, both in tremulous and (although the scale is totally off) the real world
P.P.S. And dont think i have any idea about what im talking about, but NEITHER DO YOU, have you been to communist russia, where the radio listens to you!!(?)

The stupid metaphor doesn't help your thinly-veiled whining about admins on a privately-owned game server.
1.) Game servers are, essentially, dictatorships. Administrators can do what they want on their server. Don't like it? Don't play there.
2.) No, no-- Don't come running to post about it on the forums, we don't care. You're only going to be made fun of here. Go find the forums for the server you want to complain about (I'm assuming they, like most, have them), and complain there where people might give a fuck.
3.) ????????
4.) PROFIT!
Edit: Oh, and lrn2communism.
-
rofl, you state that asif i should be worried, im just trying to send a different viewpoint, im not actually arrogant enough to assume server owners need to go to me for advice on how to run a server... yeesh, dont take me so seriously... try visiting this place (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Nobody_cares) for information concerning my profound distress for your lack of concern concerning my little jokepost
hehe, and P.S. please dont flame, it aint nice to be antisocial
edit: oh, and ive got enough of that "nobody cares, shutup" s**t in High School, that theres no reason it should start affectin me now...

+1 to that, my friend. +1.

Why do we have votes again? Oh yeah, so admins can call them and pass them instantly. I forgot this wasn't a democracy =\
-
lol oh ok (http://encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Oh_ok)
-
Well tremulous is indeed a dictatorship but that can be fixed. For example, we can elect admins, that would be a cool feature. Basically the general players elect lvl 1 admins and have a limited term, higher levels can only be elected given that that player has already been an admin for their given term. The first vote would be if the player should keep admin, if yes then the next vote is should the player be given an upgrade. This would just be a server mod built on top of tjws. Of course the players who host the server must be master admins, however, no admin should be immune from vote slap (some admins need to be less of gods). admin abuse is common but can be fixed with some kind of election system. possibly lvl 1 admins can be voted for at the beginning of every game (or half level admins). Also note that I am indeed as well talking out of my ass and did not care to read anything that I have currently read.

This thread is soooOo waste of bit space... And time to actually read the whole thing...

this guy is on your side
together you 2 can overpower the rest of us to create a democracy (how ironic)
-
You probably shouldn't have listed "communism" in an option since COM was a huge clan and all the Commies are going to vote that...I did, it's instinct. I didn't even read your goddamn post.
-
This really doesn't seem to belong in servers forum. I'm not even entirely sure what this is about.
-
why has my thread gone from general discussion, to servers, to off topic?! Why dont all you big mod boys just slug it out in the open, rahter than kick each other under the table...
Yay, i got my first "goddamn post" comment, thanks TinMan, i need another one of those for my collection. In other words, d@mn.commies!!
-
If only everyone would take the time to write up their gripes like this!
I am incensed by your misfortune. We must fight the red menace at every turn until they are no more! How dare you use your power communist scourge in your lands in a way that I feel is unfitting.. how dare you!

I never knew the Chesire Cat was this emo. Either I totally misunderstood Lewis Caroll, or this is an imposter.

I had that shirt, but I lost it. ;____;

The irony here is that the "no's" are winning, but just the fact that they voted means that they follow at least some basic belief in democracy. (voting... opinion... individuality)

I was told to vote for communism.

Haha, good point. But that's a pseudo democracy still. Not socialism/communism.

me an emo, lol (its called humour). as to the impostor claims: Meh, theres more han one chesire (some are spelled cheshire, which just sounds uncool).
It does make sense that ppl would be voting for the commies (seeing as in the metaphor, the populace would vote repedeately for the communist government, even in "free" elections... why?
A: the elections are fixed (as you can clearly see here)
B: The people are being scared into voting for the commies (again, clearly evident as a recurring trait)
This is why WaR was invented...

A server is started by an individual or a group, who spent money and time to set it up.
You, a normal player, spent nothing and have no share on that server. You have no right whatsoever to oppose what the admin says. You may bring the matter personally to the server owner, but please don't complaint about it here. Tremulous.net cannot do anything about it. The best thing that could happen is if the server owner checks this forum and respond to your complaint here, which is slightly unlikely. Try their forum, not this one.
-
wow, sorry... Again, as i said above, i was merely satirizing the admin system, and as i said before, i dont seriously expect the admins to come to me for advice on running their little "republic". On the other hand, i expect the OWNER of the server or the manager and actual clan administrators to have the judgement necessary to make proper decisions for themselves. As detailed above, If i were lodging a serious complaint (which i wasnt) then the person i would be blaming ("the blame game" is also satirized in my posts) would be the people that are appointed admin levels not for their fairness or ability, but because they were recruited into the same clan as the server owner. I dont really think its fair that a server owner would feel obliged to provide adminship for every person with the same tag (he should do whattever he sees fit).
But, of course, i dont actually wish any poxes upon any of you, i merely wish for a peaceful coexistence. I just wish ppl could focus more on having fun than winning games, or winning arguments, because thats the reason games were invented (who cares if you get kicked off because someone with an admin level didnt like the way you were building your base... I shure dont).
-
..they dont' Haaavvveee to give them adminship...
It however sounds like your enlightenment came a bit too late.. when he started fuxoring your base up you should have been having fun instead of worrying about winning and arguing... bases come and bases go.. but friends are forever... or something....

Can't you all remember when you were young that if two kids could not get along they were just told to play in different areas. That is there server and however crappily they may run it you have no say. Go make your own server and mess with them if they show up there, that is the only thing you can do.
-
I couldnt be bothered reading that loong and presumably mind-numbingly boring para you have there. But I will say that if we didnt have admins, then all you would have is a vote to kick people.
Also, I like being an admin.
If you want a democracy, try it out on your server.
EXPERIMENT:
Give 10 n00bs level 10 admin rights then just watch as chaos reigns.
I garauntee they will have exterminated themselves from the server within 5 minutes, apart from 1, which you can finish off.
-
WDM!
Get that clueless troll, that did learn nothing in High School of the forum please.

Unfortunately the experiment has been proven a failure in the FunZone server. Apparently noobs like the chaotic surrounding and wont get off the server when they are being slapped, muted and kicked randomly by a certain admin. This could be explained by the generous give out of admin status, and noobs just love being an admin.

Could someone actually make this a mod somewhere? Soviet Aliens vs American gay spandex army?

True 'nuff, and i did indeed move long enough from their server to write about it... Also, if you were part of a clan and you started a server (in the clan's name) would you have the right to choose who gets admin or not? nope, all the people in the clan will. Its the judgement of people who werent given admins for their skills in judgement that i fear... Anyone else get that?
-
I won't deny that they do.. but i don't know of any clan that requires it. Usually you trust your clan-mates and it provides an easy way to have a good number of admins to watch out for naughty deconners and the like. Sometimes you end up with your situation, yes, but sometimes you end up on a server and there is no admin and someone screws with your base by deconning it and there is noone there that can stop Mr.X from really coming back. I guess its just up to the player to decide if the clan is trustworthy and if they want to risk scenario 2.

D**ocracy & communism have done enough evil. Time to go back to MONARCHY!
Even despotism can be good or bad, democracy (eurosocialism) is stupid.

What about universality? :P
