Title: Help please?
Post by: ToastMaster_M on May 09, 2007, 10:15:18 pm
Hi, I'm new to tremuluos, and sometimes when I try to join a game, it will say "low ping server only" and it wont let me in. So my question is, how do I lower my "ping". I was playing in the ATC server for awhile, but suddenly it blocked me with the ping message.

Anyone?

In the server browser, look for a server that has a low ping.  Servers can configure a limit as to how high of ping a client can have until they disallow them from joining.  Look to join servers that show as having low ping in your server browser.

many servers filter incoming connects
and won't allow you to connect
if you ping is over a value x they have set.

try playing on servers with low ping
that are in your local area.  if the server
quote "has decent ping" (really <100)
then check your network settings and
connection.

'ping' is a measure of the round trip time between you and the server. (aka latency)
The game is a lot better when everyone has a low ping.

A high ping can be caused by many things, such as you running p2p or a large download, or connecting to a server that's on the other side of the planet.
Those are pretty much the only things you can change, other than getting a better ISP.

Also, you can do /cg_lagometer 1 to get a little graph top right.  useful to know if its always bad or spiking.
