phuu that's it with editing :s

1. This is old.
2. It looks good.
3. ET:QW will definitely have better gameplay.
-
As I recall, the new Farcry engine is fairly good as far as optimization goes.
And if you're that worried about your computer melting, perhaps you should get a new heatsink?
// Not bothering with it unless the INF team mods it.

Yup it's old but i like it :)

So....much.....blush....can't.....stand it.....

Too bad Crytek doesn't know how to make fun games.

How do you mean that :? xD

You didn't enjoy Far Cry? That was one of the best single player games I have ever played. The AI was good. The non-linear gameplay was superb. Graphics were the best at the time. Very challenging. I'm curious what you did not find "fun" about it?
-
Anyway, is it possible to play a DirectX 10 game on DirectX 9 graphic card?

Most likely not, but it is becoming more possible to use DirectX 10 on Windows XP, just very buggy right now.

That is the stupidest game ever just down loaded it and crashed my computer like that *
-
You downloaded Crysis? LAWL

I thought it was possible but the CPU does the work instead of the GPU resulting in slow and middling graphics performance.
(Correct me if I am wrong.)
@Mimclear-
Are you saying Far Cry crashed your computer or Crysis? (Didn't know Crysis had a demo but Far Cry does. It needs to be patched to work with some graphics cards.)

I personally found Far Cry to be a rather hollow affair, certainly when you start to encounter those ridiculous aliens. Concerning the graphics, only outside environments look fantastic, Far Cry did not show off any capabalities for complex architecture at all, kind of like the same 'problem' Halo has.
The AI looked promising at first, but after a while you can easily see their patterns and they actually become rather predictable.
Multiplayer was so-so, and I only found it to be enjoyable for a short while, mostly due to it's rather buggy performance. The vehicles were amusing though, for a short while.
Speaking of Directx10 games, I would say BioShock is a much better poster child for Directx10 (and subsequently the Xbox360).
-
Cool, I can barely tell the difference in them. And your computer is not going to fry if you have an update system. DX 10 is best supported by vista, but we all know how we laud at vista and it's buggyness right now.
-
Why couldn't they just open their hearts to OpenGL? *cries*

F . E . A . R FTW

@Lava-
I'd be curious to know what FPS games you found better or enjoyed more than Far Cry. Obviously I've missed a few.
As far as Crysis goes, that may be the time for me to upgrade to a new system and give it a try. Crytek does like to push the hardware levels, but everyone needs a hobby and it definitely improves the quality and maturity of the players.

Far Cry Instincts: Evolution just rocks! You gotta play it.

I thought that was an XBox game? Besides the fact that I don't do XBox, Far Cry Instincts (for Xbox) was quite linear and predictable compared to Far Cry for the PC. Is Evolution that much better?

i found farcry good but not great, rather boring towards the end, finished it tho. HL2 is quite a lot better.

Changed this post* Half-Life 2 Episode 2 Screenshots are now on my first post
PS. Can't wait for HL2: E 2 and pOrtal and of course Tremulous 1.2 8)
-
only thing HL2 featured was low poly models with normal maps and havoc engine and a gravity gun
-
Oh man i just love the Havoc engine! U nearly can do anything with it! :D

My favorites of the past few years are DOOM3, Prey and F.E.A.R., all of them higly polished FPS games that put Far Cry's gameplay to shame, not to mention the architecture showed off in those games. I don't really care about engines that can do the most pretty outside environments, since that's not the environment I would want to experience a story in. I personally prefer dark and cramped indoor spaces to experience a story, than a wide open outdoor environment as showcased in Far Cry.
On another note, why do you think nobody plays Far Cry these days, while games like Quake are still being played quite a lot? Could it be the hollow gameplay Far Cry has? Or it's buggy network code? Or? I don't know...

Yes, we get into player choice here. I was tired and burned out on the typical linear indoor dark and gloomy (no pun intended) scenario so when Far Cry came out with it's miles of beautiful islands where you could go anywhere any way (swim, boat or fly), I thought it was finally something different and it was great.
Why no one plays Far Cry? I thought that was obvious. It is still too hardware intensive to run on 90% of the computers that are running today.
It DOES have buggy network code. No doubt about it. But it was originally not meant to be networked. I can't remember the origins very well, but it started as X-Isle (http://www.nieting.org/vids/x-isle.mp3) (17 MB .avi) a prehistoric island kind of thing. For those that have never seen a sample of Far Cry in action so to speak, here is the teaser (http://www.nieting.org/vids/oeteaser1.avi) (21 MB .mp3) for the Obsidean Edge mod which shows Far Cry's game play pretty well.
I do understand that FEAR is pretty good and will have to give that a try. It is one I missed and sounds like I should try it.

can you inline the images

They are 20-30 MB videos. Do not attempt with dial-up. Sorry I did not make that clear. I will edit.

Yep do that :o

Crytek started out making a techdemo for Nvidia, featuring a dinosaur. That demo was so pretty, everybody decided there had to be a game built around it. That game is Far Cry.
Your argument about today's hardware is sketchy, because I have played Far Cry fine on a 1300mhz Athlon with a ti4200, hardly a fast computer. The reason nobody plays Far Cry is because people get bored. Just like me.

That dino demo is what I linked in my earlier post.
I'd be curious to see how others have faired with the hardware requirements even if graphics are turned down to low. The Far Cry demo can still be downloaded and tried for free. It is a paltry 503 MBs.

my friend, that paltry demo is my months Entire download limit gone (500 megs a month on a 256 connection sucks)

G'day M8-
Sorry to hear that as then it's not really broadband then is it. Hope things can change for you. Our provider here has no limits. A few months ago I did about 165 Gigabytes and that is still considered small by some standards around here.
