Hi. Space Cowboy said if there were issues with players to report it here. AKKA can track IPs with their new version.
And the first idiot award goes tooo (drumroll) :
! K U R W A M A C !
Thank you to all the nomonies, but this one won out, because he deleted the reactor and screwed the game!
Enjoy your prize!
-
so wait?? did he just delete the reactor??in beginning or in end of match??? did he just enter game??? or in other words did he do it on purpose?? might have been an accident if u consider the newb factor..... perhaps telling him about his stupidity and how not to delete stuff....then if he continues to then sure ban him..... but from what u said above about him only deleting reactor and thats it, ive seen lots of people do it not know how or attempting to move base withought anyones knowledge.. if he comes into beergarden while im there ill keep an eye on him but i wont ban him right away.
-
Oh he did it on purpose. Another guy was pointing him out and saying "you will lose because he deletes reactors". That was , of course, before he did it. And he did it the next map as well.
Also, tried to kick him, but since he's got the ! in there, it said he wasn't even on the server.
-
Oh, I can support that ban. He did it deliberately, in many matches. Additionaly he engaged in plain old teamkilling in multiple matches (when FF was on).
Besides, his nickname is a vulgar insult in polish. And it contains spaces. He's just a troll/idiot.
-
I can support it too.
He's a general pain in the ass.
He TK's, deletes structures and camps.
(And Kurwa means whore/slut/bitch)
-
thanks for the heads up ill keep an eye out for him then
-
(And Kurwa means whore/slut/bitch)
...and Mać is an old slavic word for mother.
-
He's banned. Any others, please include name or partial name and I'll get on em assuming the log hasn't been overwritten (tremded has no option for appending to the console log (yet)).
-
Another griefer goes by Nexterholland, except that there might be a few more characters after that. I can't quite remember.
-
LLJK Nexterholland.
Yes, we already knew about him. ;)
-
He hasn't connected since the new admin code was enabled though.
-
He's scaaared. LOL :P
-
yeah there was these two guys on beer garden as well.
watch out for, all yellodeath and justin it is me.
-
If you require immediate assistance from an AKKA admin then we can be found in #trem-admins on irc.edgeirc.net.
-
Ah thank you. I was wondering how I could get in contact with you guys faster. :P
-
We just got admin system installed @ the beer garden which is going to save a lot of headaches... Which btw looks really sweet from what I've messed with it so far.
Unknown is an admin @ the beer garden as am I... One or both of us can usually be found on IRC @ #BeerGarden @ bg.tnlsoft.com ... I havent been around much myself due to work, but that should settle down here in a couple days.
-
This may sound stupid, but i am eventually going to set up a server, and would like to know where/how you get the admin system set up.
Thanks
-
The version of trem running on akka is a modified engine + game combo. It's available for SVN checkout at svn://svn.quakedev.net/trem/trunk/.
Server console commands:
addban ip/mask time unit reason
removeban ip/mask
addaccount name pass permissions
removeaccount name
Client console commands:
\login user pass
\@kick name/id
\@ban name/id
\@ip name/id
Permissions:
1 = kick
2 = ban
4 = ip
Add em up.
-
Permissions:
1 = kick
2 = ban
4 = ip

7!!!!!!!!
im good at math :P
-
Is the game in that svn Tremulous, or Quake 3, and is it for a dedicated server, or just a local machine?
And also, where can i find a good SVN Client, firefox wont accept it on that server, but Sourceforge's works fine.

Greetings,
It has come to our attention that several players have taken it upon themselves to abuse the voting system on the AKKA server; mainly vote kicking other players for no reason, or starting a vote to kick themselves.
Everyone should be aware that abuse of the voting system is not tolerated on the AKKA server and it will be dealt with accordingly. Even if the vote is for a "joke" it can still be considered abuse by an admin.
Remember, even though a vote kick is not a short ban, those who are vote kicked lose all credits/frags in the process. Just a warning to everyone :)
And also remember, if you need an admin immediately we can be found on the irc.edgeirc.net server in the channel - #trem-admins.
Thanks,
-
Never mind, i got Trembot set up.

Hi,
I was banned this afternoon (in about 10-15 minutes) after frantic defending. This mod sucks I was using the chaingun and I wasn't actually aware of hitting _any_ structures at all! As you probably know already im not a deliberate team killer and I had the highest score on the server at the time I was kicked (& banned).
My demo if at all interested here:

Hmm, getting kickbanned for accidental damage is indeed a bit hard.
On the other hand people not watching their guns are irritating. Maybe the game could deal a bit more creatively with such people like giving them some upward movement accompanied by a global message "$player got kicked in the behind for shooting the base, not the enemy". Or something like that. Would be rather hilarious and very effective at teaching the virtues of aim :).
-
All automatic (vote kick, teamkilling, etc) bans are temporary for 1 hour. The teamkill damage ban requires you to do some pretty hefty damage to your base before it kicks. Be careful when firing in base.
-
Is there some kind of warning before the ban?
-
I didn't see anything, when it happened, at first I thought it was the 'Sarge model failed to register' bug (because it boots you out the game), then I looked up in the console and saw Sandy kicked for teamkilling. If you watch the demo you will see im not deliberately aiming at any buildings, only aliens.
The chaingun is one of my fave weapons, and I do enjoy playing on the AKKA server because of the distinct lack of lamers but I can see myself 'accidently' getting banned again! Defending your base generally implies standing behind turrets and therefore presumably collateral damage.
-
I think I might just always play alien and then I'll never get banned!
-
I got banned tonight for absolutely no reason to my knowledge. I wasn't talking to anyone so I couldn't have talked back to an admin or anything. All I did was go Bsuit and lucifer and run out side trying to kill as many aliens as possible. I didn't even shoot my teammates or destry any of our buildings so I have absolutely no clue why I was banned. I don't believe I saw anyone tell me to stop doing anything and if i was doing something wrong I apologise. Anyway it would be nice to be unbanned since this is probably the best trem server and also I'd like to know what I did wrong so I don't repeat it. I was playing under the same name as my forum name.
-
1 hour ban for too much TK'ing (stop hitting your own structures, Lcannon in your own base == bad idea)
-
Unfortunately the Q3 disconnect system makes it fairly difficult to identify why you got banned. If you get banned, drop the console (~ key) and use PGUP to scroll up to find out why you got kicked or banned or by who.
-
Wow, that system is stupid. It happens sometimes during base relocation that there is no available builder to deconstruct the old base and you know how important it is to move those spawns. So we just destroy the buildings ourselves, and get kicked in the process ?
-
If that's your problem you're not doing the relocation right.
But the system indeed has a tendency to hurt legitimate people as well. And I doubt the griefers will have a problem with it, they'd just go builder and deconstruct.

It has a tendency to hurt only legitimate people. I have yet to see a griefer destroy the humans buildings by attacking them.
Also, your somewhat right that relocation isn't going ok but still, that's not a reason to kick the few human players that understand what has to be done. Also, I could argue that a human with a pain saw can "deconstruct" buildings faster than a human with a construction kit would :)

I don't remember tking anyone or anything and I'll admit I could be wrong, but i was shooting my lcannon to areas that were not occupied by our buildings. But for the future I'll make an effort to watch out even more.
-
What would be the point of walking up to the reactor and deconstructing it and having to wait to deconstruct more structures when you can just use lucifer to blow all of them up at once? It has happened, even if you haven't seen it.
If moving the base is so important, then help move it WITH construction kit or have your teammates not move it at all.
Everyone keep in mind that tk bans were added to also stop future incidents. Nexter was the 1st, and many more im sure will come and attempt to make things even more difficult for us.

This is just stupid. Shooting your buildings has legitimate uses and I've yet to see a griefer do that instead of simply using a construction kit to deconstruct the buildings. When the old base is overrun by aliens, anything goes. Also, as I've said Pain Saw is probably the fastest way to remove more than 1 building at a time because of the deconstruct timer. Why should I be using an inferior method of removing a base then ?
There's no way to make that less stupid than it is. I'd really like to know when a server is running such stupid rule so that I avoid it in the future.
-

Well, just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't happened..It's not hard to not shoot your base..Do it the proper way and don't get yourself in trouble. If you want it done fast, ask others to pitch in and help then.

Please, it's not because there's some griefers that we must ban any "different" behaviour. What next ? Griefers use weapons to destroy buildings, let's remove them from the game. Griefers use telenodes to join the game, telenodes are evil ! Let's ban anybody that uses one !
What about the poor newbies who are still learning the game. They'll play it and because they misfired a grenade or went a little too trigger happy with the flamethrower they'll get banned from the server and probably leave the game never to return.
I have once or twice killed a building because of a missplaced grenade before. Would I get banned for that too ? I'm hardly a griefer or a newbie although that use grenade bind is awfuly close to the use medikit one but those are urgent situation binds and that's why they are there.
Automaticaly banning abnormal play is stupid if there are some good legitimate uses for such actions. Automaticaly banning low quality play is elitist and stupid in a game that begs for more players to join. Griefers can use all form of "Negative" play to mess with a game. Like spawn as alien and feed the humans with kills, would you ban feeders too since it's obiously disruptive play ?
-
I'm pretty sure you have to kill more than one or two buildings on AKKA to get a kick/ban. I've TK'd three buildings in a row on purpose because we had to move them to a new location and got no kicks.
Are you so new to the idea of a FPS that you simply cannot keep from firing high damage and high spread weapons inside your own base? That's not just a newbie mistake, it's common sense!
-
This isn't so much to stop griefers as it is to stop the idiots who keep damaging their own base when "defending". The construction kit is designed for deconstructing structures, weapons are designed for killing the enemy. While tking structures may be OK on other servers, it isn't on AKKA.
-
If I remember the story correctly the humans are working for a large corporation, right? Maybe the corporation could fine them when they damage the corporation's property. It wouldn't work much against idiots with rifles, but in my experience the most damage is done with expensive weaponry like chainguns and lucifer cannons.

You'd also need BIG FLASHING THING pointing at credits while money is being decreased. Or just a message. Otherwise they won't learn.
-
A simple message will do, in red if you want to make it more noticable.
-
I think banning people for tking stuff is a good idea. Some people are just stupid and shoot the base for no reason at all (as happened yesterday ... I think the moron was testing out weaponry on the equipment to see which one does more damage)
-
Since we're on the subject of bans etc... the other day i was playing trem (can't remember the server name) and Repak switched to the humans side removed the reactor, defences computer and a few turrets then switched back to aliens. I tried to vote kick him but before i could get the point across the vote failed.
So my point is, Repak wasn't playing fair, and the vote kick could use an additional paramater that describes the offence, like choose "kick base killer" would initiate a vote that says "vector called a vote. Kick Repak for maliciously deconstrucitng the base.", or "kick tk'er" "Joe357 called a vote. Kick loser539 for attacking teammates." that way people know what you want to kick the player for.

Better yet, make it so that you cannot switch teams without at least a few minutes pause :) That way, it's suicide to do that and you have plenty of time to kick/ban him.
-
Well you can use the usual communication channels ('t' for global chat) to announce the vote and the reason and then start the vote.
But it's a good idea for another reason: if logged it gives server admins better insight into why a vote was started.
