Old. The money doesn't have that much to do with it and isn't the real catch, just because a pharmaceutical company sells drugs doesn't mean they're money whores. If you look into it this is still being tested and probably won't be done with long term tests on it's affects for a couple years.

BTW, Gatorade can be bad for you and fuck up your muscles if you overuse it and don't use it properly, mix it half and half with water.

Oh...and the Gatorade bottle looks like a penis, think of that next time you're drinking out of one.

according to the wikipedia article this drug recieved quite a lot of attention from new science and the american cancer society. and since the Thalidomide tragedy clinical trials have been quite strict with releasing new drugs on the market, i heard somewhere that some trials can last 17 years. in any case i've read many stories of "miracle breakthroughs" that havent attracted enough attention to change the face of the world. like troy hurtubise, who invented completely bulletproof armour, cheap fireproof paste, and an angel light which can see though walls and cure cancer, the designs for which came to him in a dream...

Edit: oh, and btw, the wikipedia article also says that the drug may increase the risk of liver cancer, kinda uncool eh?

Lets see increased risk for cancer vs dieing of cancer you already have.  What a hard choice.  You are right piece of junk should never be made.

ok, i only listed the increased risk of liver cancer as an ironic twist, there are other reasons for not immediately unleashing the drug upon the many cancer sufferers in the world.
ok lets see, checking article, big bold heading entitled adverse effects, lets list them all
currently discovered side effects include:
-pain
-numbness
-peripheral nerve toxicity
-neuropathy
-nerve toxicity in general
-damage to sensory nerve action potentials

so maybe it is a piece of junk...
but to be fair most of the neurological effects were attributed to depletion of thiamine caused by the treatment, and the supreme court (in america) allows terminal cancer patients to try taking it.

I'm an optimist 8) and I think this drug should be given a chance...
Given that it's already used to treat metabolic disorders, it can't be that bad, can it?

And even with all those side effects, compared to chemotherapy, it's flawless.  Any working alternative to chemo is a good alternative.

Though I do find it hard to believe that one drug can kill more than one kind of cancer.

it works against all types of cancer for the same reason it can be used to treat metabolic disorders.
the body uses oxidation to produce energy, however cancer cells use glycolysis due to hypoxia (poor blood flow) and damaged mitochondria (cell segments which turn sugar and oxygen into energy and water). damaged cells are destroyed by a self-destruct mechanism known as apoptosis, but this process requires working mitochondria so it does not happen in cancer cells.
Dichloroacetic acid (the salt of which is known as dichloroacetate) restores mitochondrial function and apoptosis takes place.

They should try it, I mean, the side effects suck, but they can be chemically tweaked out, probably.

Hurrah! :D

When will they finish testing this stuff? Looks like a vague spark of hope...
