i play on an athlon 850mhz 512MB 100 mhz ram 256MB radeon 9250 (using hippie drivers that are about 40% slower than ati's), i can manage mid-high graphics settings and average 40-60fps (capped at 41)

Why do people upgrade their vid cards to insane height yet not even bother to bring their cpu up to the modest ~2 ghz range? And yes your system should run it. Not like the best but it will do.

Best way to find out is to download it and try. Its not like you can't uninstall it if it doesn't work right, or its going to cost you money to find out.

To play you need to:
Close everything that is not tremulous, meaning no downloading or MSN or w/e.

Turn all quality settings to the lowest.  But since im guessing you have a real graphics card you should get decent rates even with the quality settings at highest.

Make sure you have an exhaust fan.

Reduce your screen size to 600X400.

32 MB GFX (Nvidea GeForce 2 MX/400)
256 MB Ram
1.68 GhZ

And I run it fine, so should you...

He is selling the CD that tremulous is on... basically for people who cant download it (stupid).

Also he is trying to make money off a game that is totally free... (stupid again)

You should report him for false information, this game isn't rated E, nor would it be.

Look at the bottom of the pic and read the disclaimer--He appears to be SELLING the download and offering a backup cd.

I googled some of his other "products"--they were all FREE games available from elsewhere. (atleast the ones I checked)

!ban devishian -1s ^1fucking scammer!!!

Someone with an eBay account should report him!!! (I dont have one :( )

That part isn't exactly a scam, I don't see anything wrong with it other than that morally they should have a link to the free download site for Tremulous.

GPL software is allowed to be sold (money for distribution/support) under certain conditions, I don't see this violating them.

Is the source there?
Is there a copy of the GPL?

Timbo should email ebay and get the dude banned.

...if you cant download it how can you play it.  No internet = no play.  But then if you don't have internet you won't be on ebay either would you?

still doesnt make any sence why would the guy be selling a free game that you can download for free if you look at the guys feedback its 100 so this must be something new for him.

maybe he is really new at scamming people

you never know but yah il ask my mom that goes on ebay to report the scammer

we should all join ebay and send him emails about how angry we are :P

Its not illegal to sell Tremulous or any of those other games... Just fairly silly.  As far as if the source and copy of the GPL is in the download I can't say, but it's very likely he's just giving them the same installer you can download here, which includes both of those.

Post by: David on May 17, 2007, 03:06:56 am
Yes, but he fails to say that the game is GPL'd.

The GPL specifically states that you must say that what you are selling is released under the GNU GPL, and that it affords certain rights to the user, and then list a few of them.  He doesn't.

Shipping costs: Free - Digital delivery information provided by the seller will be made available immediately upon payment.

Cost: US $4.99

Unless he's using his companies shipping, and they ship for free, he's loosing money..which means that it is an actual (although perhaps stupid) attempt at getting people addicted to the game.

That or the shipping costs $1

I have brought stuff at £0 with £20 shipping, its a scam to get around tax :)  (or in this case, avoid 'selling' the game)

The "Digital delivery" is a download.. which probably costs him next to nothing.

How good of an FPS I get varies from server to server, of course. Even a server with equal settings as another will play worse for me. But this is lag for me, usually.

I run it with an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+. 2.01 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and my vid card is an ATI Radeon X600 with 256 MB of memory on the card. I still get EXTREME fps slowdowns of course.

I use a Pentium 2, with windows 98 installed. 16 mb graphics, and 128 MB RAM. I do play the game on fastest quality, but I'm sure you can do just fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Tremulous is based on the Quake 3 engine, it should have roughly the same minimum system requirements. Those requirements should be (quoted from the Id software website):
Quote

    *  3-D Hardware Accelerator with full OpenGL® support
    * Pentium® 233 Mhz MMX®processor with 8 MB Video Card
Or Pentium II 266 Mhz processor with 4 MB Video Card
Or AMD® 350 Mhz K6®-2 processor with 4 MB Video Card
    * 64 MB RAM

Judging from this, you can get by with pretty much any computer.

It's a little more than the normal Quake 3 requirements though, keep in mind that this is an updated engine and tremulous has entity spam.  XD
