Title: Mac Tremplayers: Represent!
Post by: player1 on May 18, 2007, 03:03:26 am
Hey, not an attempt to start another OS-based clan, flamewar, gear comparison or anything like that, but if you are a Mac gamer who enjoys t3h Tremulous, please post here. This Mac gamer support/discussion/deprogramming group is by no means affiliated with Apple, Mac, or the makers of Tremulous, a fine fragfest of a product. If you'd just like to slag Macs, feel free to do that too. It ain't my bandwidth, and competition is good for the soul.

PlayerOne just bought a Mac
'cuz he needed one 4 t3h rl
but now he thinkz it's kinda kewl
except 4 t3h equip failures
but meh
that's t3h front of t3h wave
I guesses...

lol
I play on my MacBook at times, my desktop is way better though. If I had a MacPro I would probably give up my desktop, and then wet myself.

I'd play Tremulous on the Macs at school if the mice weren't totally useless.

I sometimes play with the touchpad while on it, lol...I used to play Quake 3 on my older laptop the same way so it's not that big of a deal for me, it has bad acceleration though. If I want to play well then I grab my mouse off my desktop usually, I had a Fatal1ty 10/10 until it broke and now I use a Logitech MX Revolution.

My Desktop is this:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 2.2GHz
Motherboard: Biostar GeForce6100-M9 Socket 939
Video Card: eVGA  Geforce 7900GT 256MB
RAM: 2x (1GB DDR 400)
Monitor: BenQ FP93GX Black 19" 2ms DVI LCD
Mouse: Logitech MX Revolution
Keyboard: generic black 105-key ergonomics keyboard
Optical: HP dvd740 LightScribe
HDD: 160 GB SATA w/ *nix OSes, 80 GB PATA w/ Win2K SP4 & ReactOS
Speakers: Logitech Z-4 40 watts 2.1
Tuner: Hauppauge WINTV401 PCI Interface TV/FM

1.)OMG your supposed to press the whole mouse to click!?
2.)So when you want to grab your mouse you can accedentally click?
3.)Where is the HOLY Right mousebutton??
4.)How can you work with it?

1.)Yes
2.)Yes (this will happen Alot!)
3.)Ctrl+click (2 handed action for a single hand action on a "normal" multi-button mouse, you must love it(sarcasm))
4.)You don't. Buy a multi-button mouse (Thank you, Bill Gates!):D

nonononono!
*desperatly tries not to flame*

1) No. the click is just at the top. You can't see the line. It's very magical!
2) Yes, but only if you're very careless.
3) There isn't one..    and yes, ctrl + click works.. >_> I just set second mouse button actions to a different key. much better!
4) Quite easy, but annoying since there's no multiple buttons.

AND, the newest mouse design has been fixed!
It looks pretty much the same, but with a scroll-ball going 4 ways, a left AND right click of which you don't see any of the lines :D AND, see those pad things at the sides? you can squeeze those for an extra command which you can set to a key of your choice! maybe R for reload in trem or summat... or for a nade! >:]

We got a new Mac and it's mouse is a one-button. Yet it has a scroll wheel.  :O And so we used the old mouse! Or, the semi-old-two-button-scroll-wheel-mouse.

My school issues laptops to the students, and we've been using iBooks, so that's what I started playing Trem on. Next year, however, we're getting Dells, so it should run better (assuming it runs at ALL with Vista, lol). As for this summer, I doubt my old home computer can handle it, so I'll probably not be able to play for three months. :(

Hey, My cpu's ancient and trem runs fine!
If you put everything lowest, with least details and everything, Trem'd run fine on quite a handsome range of computers!

MacMini? like 6 inches by 6 inches? lawl

I like my Mac keyboard, not as much as my ergonomic keyboard, but better than any other normally shaped one, especially on a laptop. The touchpad and two-finger-scroll is also super-leet if you disable the horrible acceleration.
My MacBook is also very solid, I lug it around in my backpack to school, while dirt biking, and I've put it in a saddle bag and brought it to Sturgis with me last year.

Considered getting a Mini for my next desktop (really, bookshelf) computer, since I could just set it under the Airport Extreme base station, and plug in the MacBook's peripherals.

And, yeah, I lug my MacBook back and forth to work, use it on the back patio, play Trem on it for hours at a time. The SuperDrive, Bluetooth card and antenna have all been replaced. Bought it in January. :P

Sturgis, huh? TinMan r l33t gamer & biker dude? Kewl.

Like the two-finger scroll, but always forget what right-click on touchpad is. Oh, right... CTRL+click (never remember that, use too many workarounds for memory-loss & boneheadedness) 8]

You can enable a right-click feature with the touchpad, where if you tap it with two fingers at once it does a right click.  =D

yeah, that's what i keep trying to do
(my buddy's is like that)
many of the other macs i use have it set up that way
& I forget that mine doesn't
(I handle a lotta different machines in one day)
plus I use hotkeys for all the "edit" stuff anyways
Apple ("CMD")+C - copy
CMD+X - cut
CMD+V - paste
etc.
or i just turn my mouse on when i'm home
& not being lo-fi

Hey,

I've got a question...(or three to five) :P

What apps are you guys running on your Macs for irc & teamspeak?

Also, has everybody installed the backport, and has anybody else tried to make a server on their Mac?

Lastly, are you willing to share any keybinds that you find useful, and would you bind hotkeys now, or wait for the 1.2 chat menus?

Well goddamn, that useless POS mouse does have a right click.

That makes it suck slightly less, although the tracking is still shitty enough to make it frustrating for gaming.

Oh, it's the one Menace13 posted a pic of.

Aren't both of the squeeze buttons exactly the same?

I haven't installed Tremulous on a Mac yet.  I'm not sure it would be worthwhile since the tracking is shit.

How well does Trem support all those buttons?

I know Nexuiz struggles with it.  With Nexuiz, the squeeze buttons register as mouse1, the scrolling is simply broken, and it's hard to aim since the tracking is shit.

If I was really really bored, I might be tempted to install it, but I think the shitty tracking might make it frustratingly difficult to land precision shots/headbites or shoot dretches out of the air.

This thread is full of retards, so don't count me as representing their ilk.

However, I play trem on two macs:  an old G4 800mhz that still regularly pushes out 90 fps for the q3a engine with the video card I upgraded it with a few years back, and a 2.0ghz intel mac.

On both macs I use wireless laser mice built by microsoft.  I know, OMG he's using the borg !!!

Currently, I play Tremulous on an old shitty eMachine pc.

I use a 20-inch, Intel core 2 duo iMac with the ATI X1600 128mb graphics card and Tremulous runs great on it. I have a nice 300fps on Max graphics(I changed the settings so the max fps is 300..)
The Mighty Mouse is a amazing mouse and is great for tremulous. I use a Program called SteerMouse that lets you change the tracking speed of your mighty mouse(or any mouse). It's very good but it's only a trail unless you pay for it so I just un-install it then re-install it and you get a full 30-day trail again :P
Code: [Select]
http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/

I am going to be getting one of the Santa Rosa MacBook Pros (15.4-inch) soon, I can't wait!  :D

Got my iMac about 4 months ago I think it is now and I'm Never going back to using a PC..
Before I had the iMac I used Ubuntu for about 3 months, I just got completely fed-up with Winblowz :P

I have a...

700MHz CPU
384MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX (32MB)
40GB HDD

iMac G4.
Its not the best machine, but its not that bad either. It can take a beating, and still get out alive.

Im soon going to get one of the new iMacs (Once they get updated (In about 1 month))

The mouse im very accustomed to - some people are suprised by the lack of a click, but ive adapted to it. (Albeit the newer Mac mice have 2 clicks) I just program F for secondary attack, and binded '\' for 'Come on !'.

For IRC I use Colloquy.

Quite good, and no.  For plain old chat, such as AIM or ICQ, you should try Adium.  It combines many types of chat systems into one application.

Yeah.

I just want something robust for IRC for game-finding, and stable enough to hang out in the main channel and monitor three to five others. As gamer-specific and user-friendly (read: I am PC switcher) as possible for a free Mac add-on. Without too much programming time involved "configuring options".

All those PC people who wish to repent for sinning against Apple ways must use this lyrics in a bad voice:

Oh great Macintosh, (please do not scream HOLY SHIT- oop my bad)
We pray for forgiveness...
We suck..
Please take our offerings of iPhones and iPods that are set to Windows..
Tremulous rules...
Vista is craap....

Still working on the rest.
