I need someone to help me set up GTK, im only 13 and dont know how to hack "exactly" yet, so some one give me set by step noob inscructions. this is my problem so far, i download mac radiant 14 and 15
good so far
then i download packs to save disc
going great
then i send mac radiant 14 and 15 to save disc and open them........
WTF???!!!??? why does it not even show a window???? it wont work. so i delete it and try it agian and agian, but no it doesn't work :( :(
please give suggestions and ideas for the map.i am thinking of making it a perfect map, and spending all my time on it so it can be realesed in 1.2 maybe
im going to use atcs textures, but im trying to fall back from the whole another atcs thing beauase there are to many.

You are having that problem because you don't have x11 installed. Check the disc that came with your mac, it should have an x11 bundle on it.

i have an old mac G4 that was used, so they deleted the whole hard drive except mac os 10.4 what excactly is x11? can u post a link?
i know how to use GTK radiant when i had my pc, but i cant run it on m mac so i will be ready to make it when it starts up
can someone tell me if my map layout is ballanced, i dont want it to be too hard for a certain team
i might wait and make this map perfect for 1.2

Too much open room in any case, long LoS in many places. And tbh this layout won't tell us much about gameplay advantage yet. I'd consider this a single big room with some (big) obstacles. Not good for playing really. Also atcs? please something else :(, getting tired of that set.

its an open forest map, the land will be leveled so its no completely open
i siad im going to have to use atcs textures for bases and make em blend in with forest, im thinking of doing that with NEXUS textures instead those "obsticle will probaly be destroyed walls, or destroyed metal bunkers
the map is going to be bigger than it seems, im going to do my oher layot for it ill post it soon

The biggest problem with your layout is that there isn't enough VIS separation. That means the engine will be rendering the whole map everywhere. That kind of scenario is to be avoided if you want a map that performs well.

Or plays. What I'm saying with it being big is md+1.2 unlagged=ownage. Even if you make it unleveled, it will simply mean humans will have to find the high ground and own.

Forest map = Trees.
Trees = a bit of cover.
Also, there's going to be bunkers.

Bunkers, locations which in this case would make the enemy certain of where you were hiding. Excellent idea! And trees for cover is just cute. Ancient remains had the good idea with the excellent grass execution but this is so because dasprid didn't actually create really big open spaces.

A last word at Evlesoa; Your post did seem fairly flammatory. Try wording it differently or NOT USING CAPS when you post something like that next time. Capitals make some people feel STUPID because it seems as though you're stating the obvious. David, although not my favorite member of this community, constantly gives GOOD advice and HELPS others, don't make it seem like anything different.

Overall the concept image appears to depict the plan of a "Forest Tactical Combat Simulator" which although asymmetric looks like a human vs human map with each team having two forward-facing bunkers. Both paths to the alien base look fairly direct making the map a saw-and-nade-rush dream.
Alternate routes between bases make the map more fun to play, but so long as there isn't one particular route that is clearly "better" than the other - all routes need their pros and cons. This map could have one route that is unobstructed but long and meandering, and another route that is short but obstructed - e.g. buy fallen trees that requires either crouchwalking to go under or a jetpack to fly over.
Finally I can't help thinking that using organic textures (rock, the alien textures in previous threads, etc.) instead of the ATCS textures in the alien base would give the map a more polarised feel whereby each team can feel like they're invading the other team's territory.
Just my £0.02. Good luck with developing this map.

maybe like an ewok-treefort sorta map
with cables or vines for the aliens to crawl on to get from treehouse to guard tower
jetpacks wouldn't have so much open sky
and bugs could drop on them from the forest canopy
note that the reactor benefits from a screen wall
while the OM just gets concentrated nade damage from such placement
good luck with the GTK-on-a-Mac thing
if you can get it going, I'd be very interested
seriously consider using spellcheck
it'll make your code work better if it calls an object that actually exists because it's spelled properly
also, lack of sentence structure is fine for frivolous posts like this reply
but serious thread-starters would do well to respect the eyes and reading habits of potential givers of assistance

this seems like a better map idea
the caves will be small and dark to favor aliens
as the bunkers will be light up, and open favoring humans

It should still work, just get the update. If not, there is a thread somewhere on how to get it off the install disc.

If you would read, you would notice that the linked website says where to get X11. Specifically,
Note: 10.4 customers can install X11 by using the Tiger DVD installer disk.

note: if it comes preinstalled like mine, it wont be on and you cant download another copy because an error message popps up saying the system doesn't need it
anyways, you need the tremulous updators for macradiant as well
if i knew your email i'd send 'em to you

You can tell if X11 is installed by checking to see if /Applications/Utilities/X11.app exists. That is where it should install to. I could email you my copy if absolutely necessary--I have it working and am using 10.4.9.
