Mine is a 2GB CAMNEX Crystal player that I chose mainly because it supports the OGG format in addition to MP3 and has worked happily with Ubuntu so far. I can also watch AMV videos on it which was a bonus. It has been primarily been used to back up data, like Tremulous screenshots I was too lazy to burn to disc, over actually listening to music with it.

Love my nano. It was a gift, and I use it 2-3 hours every day. Works great with Ubuntu, and at 4GB, it holds almost a third of my collection (the portion I've burned anyways), all of which I've burned from CDs (no downloading music for me, except for the rare album I have on cassette and was never released on CD)
And yes, I'm that old. :P My walkman was always a cassette player before this. Long battery life, and I have 3-400 cassettes.
The only downside is it doesn't support OGG :'( so I had to convert a large portion of my collection. I'm quite sad about that, as OGG sounds SO MUCH BETTER. Same file size = higher quality sound with ogg.

I have to punch it about once every hour to get it to work properly.

Tuple: install Rockbox? I think Rockbox does both Ogg/vorbis and ogg/flac.. Not sure though since I never used it or seen it for that matter, only heard of it.
Oh, and I have one of those generic things which I never use anymore (other than storing stuff for school on, or for installing Damn Small Linux on) and:
which is ofcourse awesome for
(http://archive.gp2x.de/cfiles/screenshots/screenshot-11.png)
...and there are proper players that are able to play .SID, ogg/vorbis, ogg/flac and most of the Tracker format music...
