Title: The True Story of Tremulous
Post by: Trigfunction on May 29, 2007, 07:06:26 am
It has been a about 5 months since i started playing tremulous, and about three months since i started playing on a regular basis. I've seen the game progress into a not so Utopian, yet neat, game.

I am not much of a gamer myself, in fact, tremulous is the only game i play, yet for some reason i find myself attracted to it. So i ask myself, why do I play such a mundane game? Why not upgrade to halo, battlefield, or any other eminent unmitigated game? The answer i come to is the community. Never in tremulous do i find myself belittled. Now, I will admit, everyone gets persecuted at some point in the game, whether its for being in a atrocious clan, camping, or kill whoring, the game still remains intact and, therefore, a community. For some time now I've been waiting for tremulous to become so large that the community starts to compress into small cliques, yet I am yet to see that, a fact I'm rather surprised still holds true.

Now, some of you be thinking, "What about clans, I would call those 'cliques'" In a way, yes, clans are a "separate society" yet what would any community be without competition. Clans, which, in a way, bring apart the competitive side of everyone, are a core of the tremulous game. Everyone wants to be the best, or be in clan that they can be elitist and say "I'm in the best clan". This is where i give a shout-out to those clans that are not skill based. Mercenaries Guild and Proxies of the Soul (recent name change to something else though i cant remember what) invite members of the tremulous community to learn and help others in the gaming experience, and i truly have respect for them on that issue. While, myself, I am looking for a clan that is mostly skill based, its clans like those that give new players an opportunity to learn.

So, in conclusion, I give my respect to the designers, the players, and the community. It is always nice to log on to trem and hear a friendly 'hello', Siema, Hola, or whatever language it is you guys speak. So happy gaming, and ill see you in trem :)

-Mike (Trigfunction)

P.S. If you wondering why i wrote this and thinking that reading this was a waste of your time, i apologize, I guess I am just in the dandiest of moods.

Heh, the Tremulous community is just like all the other games. However, because it's so small you see the same faces over and over again.

i agree, tremulous is a small community (comparitively) with a small player base and it is nice to be able to see familiar faces.

p.s. another reason i like the small players base is because i can be good at a game... 8)

hmm, still waiting for the flaming...

Its people like you that are so un-confident with themselves and the people around them that ruin things like these. Assuming that the general public is just like you is morally presumptuous and you should stop talking :)

umm...no
Ris is a pretty cool person
I think he just wanted to let you know
flaming is usually an accepted part of the Trem forums
and happy people frequently get a faceful of crap around here
but I'm glad your thread started out so upbeat
do a little research about Risujin
you'll find out you are wrong

Heh heh  :D

Ah, this brings me back to the good old days, when I played Killzone on the PS2 Online. The game itself was a not so special - it was the community that rocked. You had your scape goats, you 'usual suspects', your 'omg, look, 'the pwners are here', the 'Oooh, the guys we always have a 'laff' with', the guys which always suck, and etc.
We all knew each other, friends or enemies, and that is what made the game so fun. Same thing with Tremulous, which is why I play it so often.

I remember the good old days when i used to play on !SATGNU...
Dear old Lava used to come in with regular intervals to flame/kick/mute someone on either shaky or no ground.

Too bad he seems to have calmed down. :(
Too bad !SATGNU always is empty nowadays, I've been wanting to get in there again.

Trigfunction, I lost my newly aquired respect for you in your second post in this thread. First of all, I didn't really get what was the big deal of someone welcoming you to the forums, since i can see you are new (to the forums) and all.
Secondly i did not get why you took it in such a negative way. :-/

Were you just waiting to get flamed so you could pull a rant or something?
Please tell me I'm not right... Cause you didnt quite burn all that respect yet, enough to get a safe landing... Unless you explode now of course.

No, risujin just assumed that because of a simple thread i would be flamed. People disappoint me who have such low respect for their comrades that they assume a thread like this will get flamed.

i definetly see cliques in the game...

D*S/NULL

SST/BoT

DLL/AoD

those are the most prominent groups of people that i see hang out with each other a lot... but there are many more.
