Was messing again with terminal and managed to get tremulous to work :D ^.^(not bad for my second day using linus :) ) but dang its slow.. It lags and freezes and I can hardly press anything.
Command written is:

Sorry for triple posting but but putting all in one post would be untudy/careless IMO.
I typed glxinfo | head
in terminal and got this:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
server glx extensions:
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating,
GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_OML_swap_method, GLX_SGI_make_current_read,
GLX_SGIS_multisample, GLX_SGIX_hyperpipe, GLX_SGIX_swap_barrier,
GLX_SGIX_fbconfig
From here I do no know how to continue. Any help? :)
Thank You in advance :)

Wouldn't troubleshooting be better for this kind of question? just a tip :)
-
Install nvidia drivers  .
You are currently using the Mesa drivers, and theses just provide an software 3d acceleration, not a hadware-based one. So you're not using the capabilities of your graphic card.
-
Madtree thanks. I have the drivers but i don't know how to install because it doesnt let me install in X server.
How do i Do this?
-
Just a friendly note:
sudo tremulous +set r_allowSoftwareGL 1
It's never a good idea to use sudo with a process like this, as security holes, bugs etc. have the potential to compromise your entire system.
In fact, it's probably use sudo ever at all unless absolutely necessary.
FAO next_ghost et al: this is how you do it without making people feel stupid or swearing at them. Good, isn't it?

You could also do the upgrade to ubuntu 7.04, because there's a way to do it in Feisty all in a GUI. Not my method of choice, but it worked for a friend.
-
I ordered a free cd of Ubuntu 7.04 for free fro mShipIt but currently im using 6.06.
So I downloaded the driver and ran the x server and it said I need some gcc or something so i Updated ubuntu (had 240 updates) . Now it says it cant find something called MAKE or its not in the path or something like that :/
please help i want to pla trem so badly :'(
-
Okay, you'll need to be more descriptive with your errors. I have no idea why would need to install GCC and Make, but to solve those problems open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
It will ask you for your password, and put that in. That should clear up with MAKE error.
-
The nvidia installer on there website complies the kernel module if your kernel isn't on there list.
-
stop using crappy distros (the mixed repositories kind) and switch to debian etch.
iflameyounotkthxbai
-
K I can play trem now.
@noobius
And I tought ubuntu was made from debian?
-
It is.
Its Debian testing with a ton of re-branding and added bugs.
-
one more think that I'd like to add.
benmachine wrote not to use sudo to run tremulous.
it is very important not tu use it because it runs programs with administrative priviliges.
That means that you've been running trem using the root's account (thats the same as you would log in as root, and not as a normal user - blivori, and then run tremulous). That's totally unnecesary, and can cause problems. besides in some distros the root's account is configured in a way that prevents running any graphical programs (for safety reasons).
root's account should be used only when one needs to do some administrative tasks (eg. when you install programs you need administrative priviliges).
-
Also, if you first run as root, all the ~/.tremulous stuff gets made by root, and therefore owned by root.
Then we have noobs asking how to reclaim there files.
-
Well Tremulous under gnome runs crappy (in terms of fps).
I installed xfce to try and get better fps. It got better but not as much as i expected.
for example: If on Windows (tested on 2000 professional) I get 35+ constantly on ATCS I get 20 - on Ubuntu (with xfce).
Anyway to fix this?
(p.s. I don't run trem on sudo. Also, I can't edit my autogen.cfg config file fro maccount i sue (only works with root0.
-
Install your graphics drivers, and use them. Problem solved.
-
Also, I can't edit my autogen.cfg config file fro maccount i sue (only works with root0.
yes, you can. you just are trying to edit the wrong autogen.cfg - after you've run trem from your account (with out sudo) it has created the .tremulous directory in /home/blivori/
If you want to edit the trem's configuration for your account then edit /home/blivori/.tremulous/autogen.cfg
In UNIX systems every user has it's own configuration for each program - the administrator's configuration files are stored in /root/ and user's in /home/user/
-
sudo chown -R $user:$user ~/.tremulous/
