How much RAM do you have? Also try closing other programs, your VM may be too fragmented.
-
i have 256.But at windows tremulous runs good.
-
Linux + X + everything else needed is probably causing too much fragmentatin for trem to be able to allocate memory. Windows VM is much better at this kind of thing so you may just have to use Windows to play. Although 256 is really not going to be much fun...

hmmm ive had something like this before for elite force... said something like comhunk error at 90 set to 120... saying u need to change hunk memory for game higher for it to run...since ef is like q3 which is where trem is from maybe u need to do same thing???
in ef in console u needed to type /set com_hunkmegs "# of hunkmegs"
have u been able to open game at all?? wont be able to try it if u havent been able to get to console lol :D
-
Trem probably doesn't need the full 128Mb, so you could try reducing it. Try running with +set com_hunkMegs 100 on the command line. The lower you set it, you may find some maps won't load any more. 100 should be fine for most though.

Minimum com_hunkMegs is 128, allocating 128 megs.

Sys_Error: Hunk data failed to allocate 128 megs
so it can't be 100.
