Blade here. I'm fairly certain few of you know my name. This is because I only ever frequent 3 servers (out of 150+). When I started playing last summer, as many of you, the game was different. Tactics were less developed and the community was haphazard.

Today I encountered another person who tried to judge me based on 10 minutes in game with me. They got pretty furious with some experimental building of mine, and in flaming me, played the Seniority Card. We all know the Seniority Card. It's when we get pissed at someone, so in order to back up the fact that we're right, we say "I bin playin  Tremulus fir 1 year" And it's usually true.

SO WHAT? I'd like everyone to take a step back and understand that there are a lot of people who have stuck with the game since it has become standalone. You can also appreciate that there were people we'll never know about who got in and out of Tremulous during Quake. What would do if you played a seniority card on one of those people? You'd be embarassed. But why? Surely this Quake player has done the same thing?

Consider this... What would you do in the same scenario if it had happened 9 months ago? Not much. There wasn't much reason to get pissed at somebody unless they screwed up. None of us had seniority cards to play (We still don't).

Keep your cool the next time you get thrown into one of these situations. Never even think about saying "Hey, you're wrong, I've been playing for a year." If someone's wrong, they're wrong, but it has nothing to do with how long they've played the game. Don't be that arrogant person who is too good for everybody else, because there is ALWAYS SOMEONE BETTER. And don't stick with a clan just because they give you people to talk to or play with. If you're not happy with a clan, leave. I am living proof that you don't need to go around wearing a clantag or boasting how much of a veteran you are for a) you to thoroughly kick some ass in game b) people to know who you are c) people to like you

I make no comments to this. I do not expect that it needs comments, either, only addendums - there are definitely more problems with the way people behave in this game than are covered here, and feel free to pool each others' thoughts about those problems. We're all humans here - let's treat each other accordingly.

Everyone likes to over-generalize with pseudo-profundities.

I personally haven't encountered anyone who's pulled the seniority card. Therefore no one has.

Well, my biggest thing is when people are building in a weak place.  You won't know it is easily defeated until well after the base is built and the game is gone on for a while.

Case and point is aliens in sand pit on Transit.  It seems like a good idea, many people think 'get it before they humans do', and its looks easily defended.  Well, its easy to jetpack to and swoop down for a quick luci spam destruction.

Another good example is humans going under the stairs on archnid2.  Anything is better than under the stairs.  I'd rather the base not move (and rush like hell during s2) then move there.

Personal, I'll just say, 'Its dumb, but whatever' and let people learn the hard way.

that doesn't always work unfortunately. too many people are used to building bad bases and will continue to do it (under the stairs on arachnid, or window room on niveus), no matter how many times they lose because of the bad base, because they will always play against bad players that let them think that base actually works.

Exactly.. being around doesn't mean you know anything, or have any more skill, or that anyone likes you... just means you've been around.

Bugger the seniority card.

You want to play the "I'm Henners card". Gives amazing credence to your arguements.

Oh wait you cant play that one can you

Jus go right up to their face and say you've been playing a year longer then them. They're lying anyway, so why shouldn't you?
