Post by: TRaK on June 19, 2007, 05:39:25 pm
UPDATE 2007/07/07

Download : http://dretchstorm.com/system/files/downloads/maps/map-DSArena.pk3

Changes :
- Two versions included : DSArena, which is a larger version of a2, and DSArena-mini, roughly the same as a2.
- elevators replaced with jumppads.
- Target_locations added
- Doors for the alien base
- The big version has larger halls and a larger center area, with a few crates.

Over the last weekend I made a small symmetrical map called D*S Arena. It is meant for fairly fast action in small games.

Hopefully hate/rivality with D*S wont stop you from enjoying this map

known issues :
- spectator view is glitched if it get close to elevator (is there a fix?)

Nice work. Is it the size of ATCS, or smaller??

I would say its smaller.

Probably around UTCS-sized

Remove all the textures you currently use and replace them with textures that complement you map, instead of make it uglier. The brushwork is rather pleasing, but the textures totally ruin it.

Just played it for the first time.  Was an alien.  Things just seem rather tight for anything larger than an adv-marauder.  Especially the upper corridors.  Of course I only had a chance to play for 20 min or so.  Overall, I think it looks good.

This map is going to get a significant size boost in the next version. Alien base will be a little stronger, halls will be wider, and the middle area will be bigger.

Everything stands out nicely and is very nicely done. This looks like a replacement for ATCS in clan wars. (Maybe Nano also) :D

1. Why this?:

2. Why human base doesn't have a door in the major entrance?

3. Alien doors are orange... human doors are... grey?

4. Framerates made me happy ;)

I can't see your pic.

I added a door to the alien side to help make their base slightly more defensible. It is not a strong base by any means, so it needs all the help it can get, symmetry be damned.

TRaK, it was a screenshot of your rotating DS model hidden under the middle platform.

Warrior, why hide John Romero's head on a stick behind the final boss in DOOM2?   Because we can!  Very few would have found TRaK's little easter egg had you not brought it up.  I myself probably would have never gone roaming around the map with noclip had you not posted that pic.  By the way, this is "DS Arena" --- EDIT: see TRaK's post below  --- , so, I would guess thats why.

lol... I used r_showtris to find it... and such shaders/models in theory can reduce fps a bit (not in this case it seems).
I never played Doom2 and I blame its game style full of heads, blood and dead bodies. I would ask who John Romero is, but I already found him at Wikipedia through Google (now I finally know who that is, lol).
Fixed the pic... my other image host site is under maintenance haha...

Does Cerberus have some secret too?

Actually, I'm not. It was just a silly little thing I threw in ;).
