Title: "Black border" mode and it's configuration file li
Post by: gman19 on June 23, 2007, 07:33:45 pm
What is the line in your configuration files that dictates the "black border" size in the game when that config file is executed? I'm sorry if that seems Greek to you, it's just that I couldn't find no better way to word it. The line I'm referring to is changed when you press the - and + keys next to the backspace key. Pressing these in-game creates a black border around the screen. The reason I ask is because every time I execute a config file, it's always got that black border around it and I'm tired of having to press a key every time I join a team. So, I was wondering if there was any way to modify my configurations to fix that. Any help would be greatly appreciated; this is bugging the crap out of me.

the commands to shrink/unshrink the image are +sizeup and +sizedown (i think, they might be just sizeup and sizedown) chances are that you have them in your config file or bound to something. (and stuff like this goes in troubleshooting, i'm tired of having to move it)

What's the use of this feature, anyway?

I know that the BIND commands are sizeup/down, I'm wondering what the /cg_(whatever) line is. That way, I can change it to default and not have to hit + every time I join a team.

Smaller viewsize = smaller resolution gameplay. It lets you have a higher resolution interface but a lower resolution game view. It's all for the sake of that extra 1 FPS. Nowadays such a feature is not needed.

Actually, the real benefit if a lower cg_viewsize is that you can see the entire game-view on a smaller surface. This means you see 'more', since your eyes only have to take into account your smaller game-view, and not the entire screen. I have played Quake1 (netquake/qw) with a viewsize of 70 for years, I play Tremulous with a viewsize of 80.
