Player 1 sends a PM to Player 2
Player 1 > Player 2
Player 1's PM goes to server, and then to Player 2
Player 1 > Server > Player 2
Now, you can send Clan Messages, wherever they are...
Clan System: Checks if someone uses this name as a clan name, and allows / declines request for clan. Once registered tag + clan name, no one can use it... Unless you send an invitation to a player, and they accept. Might be working off a GUID, not by player names...

That'd be all kinds of hawt if that could work. :)
-
xFire
But it would rock having an intersystem message client.
Maby a little mail icon down in the corner of the hud.
-
A friends system.
Something similar to XBL.
-
another idea is a rank system...
Ex; Resets Every Month or so, Shows Kill / Death Ratio, and Win / Lose Ratio

Someone give that man a beer
-
Well, what I meant by that was something that the adds ability to add friends, notifies you when someone comes online, and tells you what server they're in. Something like XFire, but built in.
-
basically yea... i'd love to see that...
-
Especially since find friend is unreliable. I get 5 servers full of ppl I don't know looking for "Daeynth"

Something like an online user list, more along the lines of what Battle.net is like.
We could even have chat channels, clan channels, and game channels.

Every time a channel gets made in B.net it gets hijacked by Command.com or someone. At least on Starcraft.

At best, we could have a whole friend tracker/pm/filesharing system
At least we could have a little system mail client.
-
Tribes had a lobby
basically a chat room
where everybody who connected could talk at a master server
then you could leave to join a game
and a message with a link would appear in the chat room
other players could follow if they liked
by clicking on the link
like IRC but built-in
I think it utilized mIRC iirc
-
Tribes also had a built in IRC.
Tribes rocked.
-
Battlezone II also had a built in IRC.

oh that's right
a lobby/chat room
plus hosted IRC channels you could make & admin
was killer!!!
I think it's free now
have you checked out Starsiege 2845, the Tribes + Starsiege cybrid hybrid?

No it doesn't. You're talking about channel loaders/flooders which are common on all forms of chat applications, even IRC.
-
so, inter-server pms?
cool, new untraceable way to pm flood people.

Does "Find Friend" function well for anyone? I figured it was like the sort-by-ping feature: one day I'd autodownload a little more code, and suddenly it would be enabled, as if by magic. I've got the Mac client, and the usual mods, nothing special, some Relics, Dom, Balance & Lite (no TremX that I know of, since dude quit about six times since I got here six months ago, no offense, f0rqu3/vcxzet/bioxtc - P.S. pick up ur old messages), a GUID and backport (as far as I know, 'cuz servers rename me), missing skin from eggs, whatever comes down the autoDL pipeline. :P  :D
On topic: Good point, David. Still, a supported master chat suite and IRC channels (for Windows, Mac & Linux), broken up by sub-forum, with others for servers & the balance for clans, would be quite lovely.

Too true...:( :-? :)
I like your breakdown: chat (a master server possibly broken up into sub-rooms, by forum sub-topic), clan (clans get a channel for start-up, competing clans possibly extra channles, if available) & game/server channels (each server in the master list can register for a channel)
@Para: Renegades mod for Tribes 1 was t3h r0XX0rz!111!

Find friend works pukka for me.
And you want a tremulous IRC server and built in client?
Use freenode and xchat. It works fine for me.

Ever heard of the ignore command?
