I've been thinking of this for a while; but figured I would get flamed for it like everyone else that post their 'ideas'.
When I am at the arm, very rarely will i buy armory only to have a goon pounce by, head bite me, then 70credits down the drain.
This rarely happens any more because I have binds; but I hate having 5-6 keys used up just to avoid this situation.
I was thinking when we buy the weapons; the go into a separate box on the menu; after you have your box perfected you can buy all your items at once.
It kinda hard to explain without pics; so should i post some?

What your saying is you can make a bunch of preset configurations that save and you can simpily select them instead of spending a bunch of keys on buy binds? I don't think I would use it, I much rather my binds, but it is a good idea.

i suppose i is sensible, you gather up what you would like in one section of the armoury menu, then maybe by pressing "p" you purchase them all and quit the menu automatically.
I like it, I get that feeling regularly, and it does make sense, of course we may be just supposed to live with this little annoyance, I suppose its one of the things that make it more of a challenge.
But I like it, maybe someone could gather this idea up and include it in a bigger mod?

Nice idea, or noob-proof-something to forbid buying incomptible things like battery pack with rifle or chaingun.

In my mind, make it with little icons that light up blue when you have them. Weapons in one row, equipment in another. Buying an item automatically removes any conflicting items. Buying an item you couldn't afford wouldn't sell your existing stuff.
Would make binds easier too, as "buy lcannon" would do the same work as "sell weapon;buy lcannon". Maybe make up specific bind shortcuts.
bckit - Best CKIT. ackit if available, otherwise ckit.
harm - Helmet and light ARMor.
jetharm - JETpack, Helmet, and light ARMor.
battharm - BATTery pack, Helmet, and light ARMor
(Capitalization used to demonstrate pseudo-acronym derivation)
While we're at it...
builderbest - Best Granger. Builderupg if availible, otherwise builder.

NO NEVER DO THAT

How about make the menus non laggy?
Or number all the items? So I can run up, hit Q and then a few numbers, easy to memorise them after playing for a bit, and then I'm done, none of the laggy mouse crap.
Either way the current system sucks balls.

Yeah, I agree it is kind of a bummer that you basically HAVE to use binds if you want to be able to do anything at the armory. There should be something on the tutorial screen saying "Make some binds or u will get pwn3d at the arm."
There is some documentation on binds out there...but new players are too lazy to read it and when they do they are usually more interested in the "say" function than the "buy" one (lol).
SAMPLE BINDLIST
bind w "say ^1U GOT OWNED"
bind a "say ^1WTF BLOCKERS"
bind s "sell upgrades;buy ckit;deconstruct;deconstruct;deconstruct;deconstruct;deconstruct"
bind d "say ^1WTF UNLAGGED"
bind f "sell upgrades;buy jetpack;buy chaingun;itemact chaingun"
bind g "sell upgrades;buy jetpack;buy shotgun;buy battpack;itemact shotgun"
bind z "say ^1 CAMPERS CAMPERS CAMPERS"

I like my idea better.

I like my idea better.
Yeah, no bias on your part, eh?
// Although the armory configurations were the one thing I liked in Tribes.

Er i think what he is getting at is that he wants things you buy at the armoury to happen all at once, for example when you leave the armoury, rather than one by one as your click on them, leaving your vulnerable to drive by goons. Not preset configs or binds.
Tbh its not a bad idea as such - not really needed though. Just dont use the armoury when its dangerous to do so....
-
I don't care what's done with the armory interface, but something needs to be done. The current one is just simply bad. Most new players can't even figure out that they have to sell their rifle before they can buy a better weapon.
-
I like to think of that as a basic intelligence test before we allow them better weapons
-
It's unintuitive to have to "sell" your starting weapon.
