Title: Who is allowed to comment on Tremulous
Post by: /dev/humancontroller on July 22, 2007, 02:01:01 am
You've probably heard many people talking about what they don't like in Tremulous and what should be done in it (like blaster projectiles being slow). Many of these people do not consider the common benefits and both advantages and drawbacks of their wanted changes. Consequently, their recommendations are not ideal, and are best ignored. The primary reason for this might be the average n00b's experience level in design. They are not oriented around mutual benfits. For example, when people are new to Tremulous, they usually chose the side which is easier for them to play, which is almost always the human team. And if they are bad players, they will only play on thet team. Later, once they find something annoying for them, or want something easier to be done, they may announce it. However, they don't considering what it would mean for the other side.

2 short examples:
- Make the blaster faster and stronger, because you can't kill anything with it. WTF? You are not even supposed to have anything useful other than your primary weapon. You should be thankful even for that piece of goatshit. Advanced Grangers really suck at killing, and Grangers don't have ANY offensive measures, so why should S1 constructors or even humans have blasters? You want to be able to kill tyrants with that gun? You call that design?
- Make the lucifer projectile faster. WTF? That gun is worth 600CR as it is. Consider the difference between the most expensive human and alien. A tyrant can kill 3 or 4 basic humans (with rifles) before needing to retreat, or getting killed by the next one. A human in a battlesuit with a lucifer cannon can kill as many dretches as he wants, before running out of ammo. It can even kill an advanced dragoon with 1 shot (fuck lag!). What about destroying structures? It's just too good. Increasing the speed will definitely annoy the aliens, much more than it annoys you, that it's so slow. Sorry, majority wins.

So unless you have the proper experience, play both sides with equal desire, and have the potential knowledge to wisely analyze and make generally advantagous decisions, I don't think you even have the basic rights to comment on Tremulous, because you are supporting yourself, and not the game!

Thanks for posting what everyone's been saying here for over a year now. Surely the people that do so will listen now that you've said it, humancontroller.

Forgive the disrespect by others.  You sound like a troll because your comments display a misunderstanding of basic concepts.

The grangers are builders.  Blasters are the only weapon available for human builders.  If you want to fight, chose an offensive class or weapon.

Blasters have purposes.  Find them on your own.

The Human team has many fast but lower damage weapons than the luci.  These faster weapons are less effective as the luci in killing structures.

I think you need some practice with using tyrants. You shouldn't have to retreat after killing only 3 or 4 basic riflemen unless you're being shot at by base defences or some other enemy at the same time. Basic riflemen (without help from other kinds of enemy) get folded like napkins by tyrants.

As for the idea of people not being allowed to make comments on a public forum, I see that as a daft idea. Free speech and all that. You don't say they're not allowed to make fools of themselves. You're meant to let them say their piece, then you can crush their words with your bigger words.

Folded like napkins...I just had to laugh at that, because humans often do fold like napkins when they lag out.
