Ok, firstly, let me say that SATGNU is a pretty fun server.
Most of the time some pretty friendly people play, and there is a good mix of noobs and pros. Also, TremStats does add to the enjoyment.
However, yesterday, I noticed one guy called 'Probe'.
The guy is definately a high-end admin, but he abuses his power.
Twice in the last two days Ive seen him give out 1 year bans for matters very insignificant.
For example, today (well, 15 minutes ago) I was playing on ATCS, and its very apparent there arte a few newer players (Heh heh heh - 2 naked chain-campers :D )
Its the first 5 mins, and its S1vS1 -
humans, are camping.
Im on humans, I leaving the base, kill a few dretches, and come back.
Rinse, repeat, etc.
Well, Probe decides to slap one of the guys with a MD to death.
Naturally, as I would get, the guy gets pretty pissed.
Probe then goes to ban him for 1 year.
This is a very significant case of power-abusing.
Killing camping humans isnt as fun as naked riflemen running in corridors, I realise that, but it is no where near enough reason to start dishing out 1 year bans.
He then threatens to give aliens S3.
This really sucks.
I tell him that seemed very harsh, and he replys
"None of your business"
"I decide what is harsh or not"
Or something along these lines.
So a few minutes later, he calls everyone noobs, and leaves.
I, obviously not wanting to get banned too for a year (I like SATGNU), only insult him after he leaves.
Another admin catches me off guard, apparently, and bans me for 7 days for 'insulting'.
Now, my ban is not why im writing this - 7 days is not a long time - I have plenty of other things I can do in a week.
However, since I know (or I think) that there are a few admins from that server here, I wish to tell you this:
Be careful who you give admin status to.
This guy seems to have a personality of a pre-pubescant 10 year old, and generally looks like a bit of a arsewipe.
I would rid that guy of his administrative responsibilites immediately - he is certainly casting a bad reputation on your server.
Why am I typing this here ?
Well, where else do I go to complain ?
Oh, and Probe, if you are reading this,
please, grow up.
Oh, and I KNOW I will get atleast one person saying "Its their server - they can run it as they wish".
Well let me tell you, if this type of conduct is what all other admins believe is acceptable, we live in a very depressing world.

First of all, the community can do nothing for you, even if they wanted. Since SatGNU is a private server, nobody but the server owner and the people he gives admin rights have a voice in this matter.
Apart from that, you should know by now that crying on the forums about a server ban is a sure way to get the ban extended, as you have noticed.

More than simply, its not nice, and you will only get less and less people playing there by such conduct (unless that is your aim).
As for SATGNU being a private server, alas, I did not see this stated anywhere, so this is a fault of neither parties.
Still, I will say you have quite a few friendly people there-
'Mmmm' to mention but one.
You also have many people who play there who are the the friendliest in all Tremulous.
I am sure no one will miss my presence there, but this small, little known player says "Goodbye".
I enjoyed my time on your server.

With 'private' I mean there are people paying to keep the server running, actually, it's mostly one person that's coughing up the dough. You are a freeloader, who in a normal situation is more than welcome to play for free on a server that's being kept online with real money. Your problem is that you assume you have any rights, which you obviously do not. I would strongly suggest you stop telling server admins how to behave, or even better, start hosting your own server. Maybe you can relieve us from some of your kin.

All servers are private servers in that they exist at the sole discrection of the private individual who hosts them, and are in no way affiliated with tremulous.net or tremulous other than they run the tremulous game which is freely distributed.
There is no official tremulous server, they are all privately owned.

You think I demand some kind of rights - I dont.
What I aimed was to perhaps inform some admins of SatGNU that there seems to be a rogue admin - what I was not expecting to find that the people running the server are such (I assume you are on of the founders/head admins).
Also, I am in no way am stopping you from having your server a 'pay-per-play', however, I will tell you that booting those who dont want to pay to play Tremulous (Its fair to say that is around 98.75% of all players), yet still have good intentions isnt the way to go.
As for ridding SatGNU of plays like myself, well, I must say that I view myself as pretty much the most lawful of all players with (usually) the best intentions. Getting rid of such people will only bring anarchy, but whatever - your server, your rules.
I dont often tell how server admins should behave, however, when a admin behaves like that, he should most definately be thought of as a rogue, and the operators should be informed of the situation. Alas, this situation does not favour such a course of action.
Tuple, I write here because this is the section for "server disputes" I know from what ive seen that a few SatGNU admins are here - I merely wanted to inform a high-end administrator.
As for me hosting a server, I am not viewing Tremulous as a investment - merely as another source for enjoyment.
I assure you though, I am not such a bad guy -
I am friendly, helpful, and am even a pretty good player.
Dont assume im some kind of evil just because the circumstances are against you.

You don't have to pay money or contribute your time to play on SatGNU at all, but since there is real money and work involved in keeping a server running, you are being pretty lamer by demanding certain things like who to give admins rights and what not. People usually do not get banned from SatGNU for nothing, just like you have experienced. You got banned from SatGNU for insulting one of the people who try to keep that zoo playable. If the admins have to go into a discussion with every random client that is not happy with how something is done, they would not have time to play.
Now, you could just have sat out your 7d ban, but instead you had to cry a river on these forums here, while it has been stated over and over that nobody cares about posts along the lines of "omg i got its not fair i demand to be heard!"
Or, you would just have shown some common sense, and maybe PM'd an admin, or came to IRC to talk like a normal person, this might have been resolved rather quickly. Actually, people who get banned for minor things usually get a direct unban when they send a PM or show up on IRC to explain themselves. You did not even try to explain yourself, you just wrote an inflammatory post, hoping people would chip in for a group-session of server/admin flaming.
Funny thing is, most good and friendly players that frequent SatGNU do not get kicked or banned at all, some of them even get proper admin rights, like for example the Mmmm you mentioned.
I would strongly suggest you go and administrate a 18+ player Tremulous server that has such a high percentage of new players, keep it running and occupied with players for a few months (if you can) and then contact me with your experiences. I bet you will be a whole lot less 'friendly' by then, and you will also certainly understand why be behave in the manner you despise so much.

Slapping a camping human and then banning him for a year is not "keeping that zoo playable", nor is banning someone for defending himself and insulting someone who damn well deserved the insult. You're a bigger asshole then I thought, Lava. Run your server however you please, but you're going to end up wasting your money if you ban people for no reason. Lava, he was unaware that you knew of Probe's misdoings, and he wanted to let you know in the case that you were against his actions, and wanted to deal with him. You are bitching him out, and banning him, for what? Trying to help? A depressing world indeed. Admins shouldn't run their servers this way, but then again, who cares. It's not worth it to go there, right? Wrong. Each server is unique, and can easily be ruined by one or two asshole who decide to do some lame things to some innocent people just for their own shits and giggles. Pitiful.

Maybe you should stop replying in threads where you do not belong and where you do not know anything about.
As a last note, if a SatGNU admin feels that slapping campers to death is 'keeping that zoo playable', than that is exactly what it is. You are just one of many freeloaders who does absolutely nothing for Tremulous but spam the forums with useless posts and threads. Just shut up, nobody cares what you think, besides maybe the banned person in question.

Where's your proof he was doing anything other than camping. On the other side, where's the proof he wasn't, but I go by innocent untill proven guilty, and right now, he's innocent and a one year ban was a completely immature act and uncalled for, not to mention a sign of frustration. Did Lava need a nap? Did your patience run a little thin? Did he have a point, perhaps?
Let's see, who should be believe, the admin in question, who could simpily be attempting to cover his tracks, or the banned player in question, who could simpily be trying to have some justice? It's kind of a tossup. On one hand, A_Total_noob seems to be sincere, but on the other hand Lava is god and what he says goes. Hmm.

Lava has some correct Points there on the other hand so does Bringer but Sever admins do what they want as long as the server op is ok with it. Just move server if you do dislike their actions im sure their will be another.

I missed these threads so much....This kind of threads concerning Satgnu have been popping up for over an year now, but they still make me smile :). As it goes for satgnu, I've never been banned from there, kicked...hmm, probably not. As Lava stated, I've never seen someone being kicked/banned without a reason. Though bad behaviour/not listening to admins and their rules seems to get you a quck ban : o. So obviously, you did something wrong back there, or didn't listen to a good advice and continued doing something stupid and coming to whine here....that's just plainly stupid.

i just finished a game on funzone in atcs. i kicked 10+ people for extreme camping and retarded luci spam + jettarding...the game ended pretty fast after that and the aliens didn't have more than one person more than the hummies.
if a one year ban that will probably just get removed in a few days is what sets them straight then gg to the admins.
as a side note i don't like probe at all but i understand where he's coming from and to be honest when some crappy new comer starts whining about shit that i don't care about i just kick with 'bb' as a reason. enough is enough some times.

How about, you're gay and you dont understand the principles of camping, and why they do it. Humans have weaker weapons, they dont do 1 hit kills, nor do they do locational damage to aliens. Not pedantic at all: Lucy kills a goon in one shot, when properly used. And I'd claim it's not much harder than to Tyrant-slash a human. The game is only as unbalanced as the teams are.
This entire discussion is pretty pointless btw. SatGNU admin is SatGNU admin - there is no difference from the visitor's perspective. That is to say: don't run to mummy if daddy didn't allow what you asked for. If you got a kick by Probe, you're likely to have gotten one by me or one of the other admins. Mkay?

Rapha - im not complaining about being kicked. Its the treatment of visitors thats the problem.

@A_Total_Noob: I haven't read the whole thing yet, but you know how these things turn out. What answer can you really give to make your own server? It hurts, I've been there. I hear twelve slots is only $50 a month, plus, you never get to sleep again, because everyone wants a fulltime admin on a "free" server. :P (walk a mile in another man's admin lvl...)

but a contrite & polite PM in care of these forums is the preferred route to a quick unban, as opposed to an inflammatory thread

i could respond to evlesoa's comment (what kind of a jerk brings aimbots into a game, has the balls to complain about aimbots, then has the balls to call other people jerks), but once again lava's reply would be much more entertaining.
