mod edit:
No discussion of game cheats/bug exploits. Forward information to developers if it is a new exploit.

Delete this.
Its a major glitch thats very annoying.
I have a demo of it also but its no fun and its cheating.
If anyone is found doing this on public servers you will be banned !
-
do this on any server and you will likely be banned.
but thanks for the info, making it easier for me to spec the cheaters.
-
haha, i remember kicking on in that demo.
but i think everyone else are right. once nearly the entire alien team spawned outside the map because of you, we had to restart.
-
it is a feature

it is a feature
True.
-
The best is to do it, and move near the hallway. then evo to rant and make rant charge\jump\taunt noises. it really gets the humans paranoid.
-
omg i just found out about the glitch i had to kick 2 ppl for it
and i think u can use this glitch in other maps to
-
LoL i want to try that >.>
-
So is the secret area just the outside of the map?
-
ZOMG bring glitch back or pm me it pls :x :O D:
-
So is the secret area just the outside of the map?
Actually it's within the map, under the raised parts in the alien base.
Unfortunately the admin staff here are so short sighted that they have decreed that I may not post details or links about the secret area. You'll either have to go on servers and watch as people are doing it all over the place now or search on major online flash video providers.
-
Is this where you build the hovel on the ramps so that it blocks the way to the backway/overmind?

Posting a game-ruining glitch is against the forum rules, simple as that. The reason being, as you even mentioned in your post, is that people will pick up on this bug and start exploiting it during public games. The forum moderators have a responsibility to delete any harmful posts such as yours which might trigger unscrupulous behaviour on servers. It is you, not the moderators, who is shortsighted.
If you really wanted to be helpful, and contribute positively to the community, then you should have sent a map bug report via bugzilla.

1) what he said^
2) it's a hovel bug not a map bug
3) i reported it for you
-
what is the fucking point of glitching, griefing, aimbotting, deconing and hovel glitching
U only screw the game for others
-
watch as people are doing it all over the place now
And this does not indicate to you why mod action is not short sighted??!!
-
Glitches are their to be fixed and exploited, but to be a good community member fix it or get someone who can to do so or just report it (via pm) not publicize it.
-
glitches are not there "to be ... exploited". There are there due to an error.
-
I'm not exactly sure what you people are talking about, as I have never seen this in game and i didn't get to see the photo or whatever what he posted but on pulse, the water tank you're not supposed to be able to go in but you can, as aliens if you build a hovel on the floor than go in it and than come out you'll fall of the map. I found that out by accident.
-
It's an old glitch. It's what, at least a year old or something like that?
If you search the forum, you can still find instructions on how to do it.
-
At the moment, a hovel is considered 'blocked' if it has a piece of map where the granger would appear on exit. How easy would it be to define a blocked hovel as a hovel that has a piece of map anywhere between the hovel and the place where the granger would appear? Is there something I'm missing?
-

Yes i understand , but then they are exploited by people whom wish to exploit it in incorrect ways.
-
i think i even saw a bug about some having a rifle and a chaingun
in place of a blaster and a chaingun

in place of a blaster and a chaingun
1) it was fixed ages ago
2) he still had a blaster, but once he switched from the chaingun he couldn't select it again (and he didn't pay for the chaingun either)
-
as wireddd suggested to me, you could probably fix this by adding telsa generators in those areas, then adjust the human buildpoints as needed
i haven't tried this yet so i dunno if it'd work
-
I don't know the glitch never used/seen it:P.

I wouldn't call that a solution. For one, it would mean the aliens would have a red dot on their radar pointing to the tesla.. not that that's so terrible, it's just annoying. Plus, any granger that entered the hovel to save himself would be punished too.
That said, without a patch for the 'blocked hovel' status, I think I'd find it far less annoying than the exploit itself.
-
not neccasserily, if a granger can't exit from the front, they exit from the top
why, i'm not sure...but me and someone else was playing around, he entered
the hovel and i blocked the exit, he exited from the top.so i'm guessing with
the telsas blocking the exit, he'd still exit from top

Patch the problem, not the environment in which the problem occurs.

Unless you mean the tesla is blocking it (in which case it wouldn't need to be a tesla), it will still come out the front.
There's a possible solution though: Have them always come out the top. What's the betting, though, that this would just lead to an exploit that involves exiting the top?

If I may make an observation? This glitch appears to not be possible to be done on the walls in the human base; I've often wondered whether it's the thickness of the walls in the alien base that are the issue here.
This is all hearsay anyhow, the hovel is virtually useless and adds nothing to the gameplay, it would be far more pragmatic to drop it from the game completely.
-
that's definitely not true, i know many games would've been ended by a competent luci jumping had it not been for the well-placed hovel.
-
would seem to be a bug in the map, in that one spot. i haven't been able
to do it on any other map i've tried, nor anywhere else in atcs

A few of us were playing around on SST and learned that if someone decons the hovel while another granger is already inside, you go into "nothing." You can still see, but others cant see you. You stay that way until you evolve, or kill yourself...I think..I'm pretty sure about that.
-
I'm not sure how that responds to my post, but that is a bug that's fixed on most servers I frequent. You can't decon a hovel that's in-use in the patched version I play on.
I remember this bug though. I heard someone say exiting it took you to the zero-point of the map (the origin or co-ordinate with 0 for all of it's ordinates). On uncreation, for example, it would take you to the top of the tall cylinder in the middle.

I find it funny how the hovel is important not because it hides grangers but because it acts as a free (1 use) barricade. :P If you want to make the hovel more useful, how about making it a gateway to other hovels you've built (perhaps 1 hovel per player is buildable?). This though could easily unbalance the game and frustrate gamers. Just thinking of alternatives to keeping it or removing it.
