there for we can ban the aimbotters spoted on most servers lowering the aim bot community...

(as well as wallhackers)

I think for this to me effective we need to keep demos of all the banned aimbotters(keep them hosted for download) and integrate a subnet warning system into tjw.

So when someone enters with the subnet of a proven aimbotter(but not exact ip) it will flag them to be watched. Like Pm all admins on.

Title: Global Ban list

Ummmm, ppl, there is a simpler solution...
(well, not simpler, but more efficient and better)

Is someone writes a script that allows you (ingame) to upload a

Name
IP
Offence

to an online database, all server owners can keep up-to-date by checking the database for anyone they wanna ban, then they could select a few, and click
"Ban from server"
Then they provide some sort of serial number of their server and....
BANG!
the ips are downloaded to a ban list!
BANG!
The scum is gone.

That would be real leet, all other games would be like

"OMG, now why didnt we think of that!?"
and you would have the satisfaction of saying:
"Do you really want me to tell you...?"
Title: Global Ban list
Post by: ShadowNinjaDudeMan on August 06, 2007, 12:17:21 pm
(OOPS, should hgave editied)

So you need:

Bolt-On server script in the Tremulous Options Bar (maybe in the vote kick area, you would get the option to:)
Upload Player ID to GloBan.
The information required by the GloBan system would be collected and different offences would be given a value:

AimBotter:
1
Wallhacker:
2
Evader:
3

And then a package of info would be sent up to the server like:

ID: SNDM
IP: 10.80.68.79
OV: 3

And the server would receive this, interpret the OV to sort it into a category in its database, and add the ID and IP to a list in a section.

Eg.

Evaders

ID:SNDM
IP:10.80.68.79
ID:SomeGuy
IP:10.80.68.79
ID:JoeMan
IP:10.80.68.79

Then, server owners would browse this list, then either just copy, paste into their list of banned users, or would highlight and click download to server, the site would ask for a directory and some ID, and BinGo, its been added.

Quick, Efficient, and Too Fucking Cool.

If anyone is going to undertake the creation of a global ban system, remember to ensure the credentials of admins. Server operators will only want to honor global bans coming from trusted servers / trusted admins.

Exactelamant

For insignificantly leet, some new people are sensible.
I can host this database, but I dunno what sort of languages would need to be used to create this featue.
Any ideas?

I wouldn't doubt that some of those Dynamic IPs in that list are 3's "buddies." He has a few, and they all come into servers cussing about the players and deconning, teamkilling. If ANYONE comes into a server with simply a number for a name, denybuild immediately. He's also got some rivals, which I find very amusing.

Of course, denybuild doesn't stop them harming the base with weapons.

I asked before how each player would be fairly judged for ban or not. I think the scale of this ban list might give people some idea of how slow a fair judging process for each of them would be. How likely is it that people would rather have a speedy judging process than a fair one?

But then we have a player who can't build because he'll decon the base and can't use any gun because he'll shoot the base with it. So now we have a player who can't do anything but run around and perhaps feed a little.

Maybe kicking him would be a better idea ^^

It's a decent Idea, and I recommend we adopt it.

I, however have a few ideas to add to the idea.

How about whenever someone on the global ban list shows up on your server, a little window pops up to all admins (of a certain level) that says "[Name|Slot] Is on the Global Ban List. Allow to Play, Remove Certain Priveleges (Auto-Denybuild Him, Turn BFF and FF of specifically for him, etc), or Kick / Ban?" the admin could then decide on whether to Allow him to play normally, to deny him certain rights, or to Kick / Ban him. If an admin is not present, he gets auto-kicked / auto-banned and the next admin to enter chooses to unban him or leave the ban.

Post by: KamikOzzy on August 07, 2007, 01:10:48 am
I would never allow other server admins to decide who is banned on my server. However, I do like the idea of a warning to admins when someone on the list enters. You can have your denybuild/kick/ban typed out in advance, and if he goes straight for the reactor with a conkit, you can simply pull the trigger.

Too bad a server couldn't automatically record a demo of players on the list as they enter.
Title: Global Ban list
Post by: Plague on August 07, 2007, 01:08:04 pm
With the assumption that this idea has any chance of being implemented in mind, why not allow easy uploading to the global deny list via an additional flag/parameter in the !ban function.

As said before, I think this stands more of a chance of gaining widespread use amongst server owners if it only warns, opposed to bans, offending players with a record on the list.

Being able to submit a ban from the tremulous client is not a good idea. We don't want poison attacks on it, etc. My idea was to have a web portal with a voting system that required votes from registered admins. The ban list would be downloaded to the clients using a script (or in the future a patch to trem). Membership in this global ban list would be voluntary, much like being a member of a spam black list.

Maybe to have someone globally banned you need to have a demo of him doing his "stuff." Than people on the website can decide whether to ban him or not.

Maybe to have someone globally banned you need to have a demo of him doing his "stuff." Than people on the website can decide whether to ban him or not.

Yes exactly. A forum of sorts. Also a forum would be available for banned players to plead their case to get unbanned.

You can catch aimboters by specing and seeing them snaping etc but how do you catch wallhackers, speedhackers or hphackers (if their is such a thing)
wallhackers-lock on to targets through walls. simple observation. speedhackers, ummmm, go really fast? hp hackers.....dont die?

@SDNM
how bout an optional feature that lets you add a link to a demo of them doing it? that way you can take a look at the botters/deconners in your area and make sure it wasn't a rash ban decision. also the server name that they were banned from, and the ability to remove any person on the list submitted by you.

Wallhax as in you can see through walls, its like advanced radar. It allows the person to see whats around the corner and prepare for it.
If the speed is only increased by a small amount, it can be very difficult to prove, let alone actually notice. And for hp hackers, I guess just watch their hp as they get hit.

/shudders....

Popups? In Trem? I'm on linux ffs!

Naw, I used to have respect for mario, I did it because of the jackass admins and council members, mainly tinman and rocky.
