I don't think anyone who is a dev is willing to say it but i'd be willing to bet that development on tremulous has ceased. The original creators already have all the praise and credit they could ever want, not to mention that the game will continue being somewhat popular even if they don't release 1.2. The truth is that the people who made Tremulous aren't proffesionals... they aren't an incredibly organized team, they're just a bunch of modders the majority of which probably disbanded and moved on before 1.1.
I'm only saying this because someone has to say it, and I don't think many people would even consider this to be a possibility unless someone suggested it. Of course it could be entirely possible that i'm wrong but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

They said it would be released before next year

1.2 will come out when people start paying.
-
Maybe its because you haven't clicked donate enough!
-
I havent either!
ITS ALL MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Delay +5
-
I wonder if you'd complain about an unfinished/untweaked/unplayable game had it come out already. They've already done a lot more than they had to and I'm grateful for that.
Unlike professionals (meaning paid, not necessarily skilled), who will rush to get the game finished before that deadline if possible (trying to fix what they missed in an avalanche of patches), the amateur game developers (amateur; meaning unpaid not necessarily unskilled) have the freedom to spend however long it takes to get the game right first time.
Practice some patience and some faith and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
-
Have you guys played all the necessary games on 1.1 yet? There are still thousands of games to be played left on 1.1, when those are finished, 1.2 will come out. So players, try harder to play all 1.1 games, it already takes to long! Try harder!
-
I think the real question is: when are YOU coming out?
Come on, we've all known for ages.
-
Uh...Wha...?

Uh...Wha...?

-
Hmmmm....
I think I get it.
But I is not completely sure, Ill work on it.
Im sad.
-
Poor benmachine...Nobody gets his jokes.
I got it at least. =)
Anyways, I'm quite faithful that 1.2 will come out. I'm not sure if it's going to meet my expectations or not, but nobody will know until it's out, eh?
-Bull
-
I don't see what the fuss is about... is there something wrong with the current version? :D

it's pretty self explanitory

Lies, Kev. Humor needs ter' be explained, dontcha' know?
Okey dokey. Think of a pink closet that this guy is hiding in. It's a VERY pink closet.
-
I'm content with 1.1
Take all the time you need Devs.

NEVERMORE!!!!!!
NO BITCHES NO!
-
Good joke, but thats not what the topic is about despite the ever growing number of posts about it.. Please get back on topic and if you can't stand to leave it unfinished, make a topic about closets and who is being gay in them somewhere else and refrain from flaming. (pun intended)
-
I think the real question is: when are YOU coming out?
Come on, we've all known for ages.
I just want to say that I love you.
I love your mods better, though.
-
hahahahaa i love the joke, and i love the people not getting it. the ultimate 1 2 punch. good one.
-
I'm still stumped, unless it's womb related. (roflmao) :D
-
that sucks for you
the scientology episode of southpark with tom in the closet owned, and i bet you didnt even laff
@pie: this topic is useless, you should be happy that it got derailed by bens owning of the idiot that posted this
devs have no real deadlines, never have. sometimes its hard to wait but that doesnt justify 500 'when is 1.2' threads' and the like
-
I'm still stumped, unless it's womb related. (roflmao) :D
not even close.
-
back on topic:
It's been said b4 that the 1.2 changes are available if you want to play them, that there are still jillions of games of 1.1 yet to be played, and that the official release is coming "soon". What's your rush?
off topic again:
Also, Studlut, you may be interested to know that there is a Tremulous server less than ten miles from you. It should be really near the top off the list when you sort by ping. P.S. You have a Private Message (http://tremulous.net/phpBB2/privmsg.php?folder=inbox). l8z
-
If you look at some stuff, such as Dasprid's Tremradio notes and a couple interviews on the dev's, you'll find out that the balance changes on TJW's server are only the tip of the iceburg. However, the Titanic (metaphorical Trem community) are still sailing around the North Atlantic waiting for the rest to hit.
EDIT: Im not saying it's going to be bad, I'm saying it will probably be BIG.
-
Please oh please I hope they call it anything but 1.2. 1.35, or 1.19, maybe even version 7.
After watching the continuing bitching about when 1.2 is coming out, I just think calling it anything but would be funny,
-
Tremulous: Advanced Edition?
-
Use cryptic version numbering like Linux, so the next release will be:
Tremulous 1.199.999-rc9-{prepatch}git13-mm43.452-svn324.5
-
Tremulous 1.1.01
Yeah, we didn't actually change anything™.
-
Make the release schedule asymptotal to 1.20, so the releases go:
1.1.0
1.1.5
1.1.75
1.1.875
1.1.9375
etc. etc.
People will go INSANE.
edit:
r = release version
n = number of releases (counting 1.1.0 as the first release)
-
They should just add a few more stars to the title screen and call that 1.2 so you all will be happy.
-
i wonder how many times they've done that
just look at the title screen
-
I'm content with 1.1

Even though I can't wait for 1.2 I would rather a well thought out release, with as many bugs a tweaks incorporated than a rushed half done job done to keep a mob of whining schoolboys happy. No offense intended.
With the advent of the Aimbots I hope that the devs think long and hard about how to make it difficult for them, not the administrators of the game. For this I would gladly wait another 6 months.
-

Surely you mean bug-fixes? ;)
-
Bugs are awesome. Undocumented features are the most fun part of any program.
-
People get impatient for 1.2 this quickly? How long did you think we 'waited' for 1.1?
No, seriously.
-
But we played 1.0, they never got that joyful feeling in their guts lava.
-
This is hard to answer.
If someone said "yes" it could mean "yes its coming out" or "yes it isn't coming out"
Same applies for no.
I really hate these negative questions they are confusing.
-
i has a crumpet & scone
1.1 is fine
wat kind of lossar would want unlaged 2 becoem super stadnerd
i cant hear out of my lef taear and it friveing me insane
-
1.1 is fine
Nope, 1.1 has at least a half-dozen explotable bugs that would be used often by n00bs if those bugs hadn't been fixed in servers that are running modified code.
Please don't misunderstand me here though, I'm glad to have 1.1, but it does leave something to be desired. Also, 1.2 is rumored to be a giant iceberg heading this way, and TJW's modifications are supposed to be just the tip of that iceberg, it give me chills of excitement just thinking about it..

when people refer to 1.1, i think they mean 1.1+the bugfixes currently in svn.

Ummm yes, that's what I meant - Bug-Fixes,

They must do, because vanila 1.1 is pretty rough around the edges. I hear it was a leap forward from 1.0, but I don't know of anyone who runs 1.1 vanila, not even GameArena for all their policies and rules about official releases.
-
It's a free game FFS. This is not CS. Trem 1.2 will be out when it's ready.
-
I just wish there was a development blog going or something so we could just get an idea of how the development's going (or if it ever goes on pause for a little while, that's cool with me too, but it'd be nice to know when and why), you know, what was worked on that day and all. I find those really interesting, despite knowing jack about game development.
-
This reminds me eerily of Gloom's development over the last few years when it essentially became vaporware.

<flame on> Sigh, please tell me how Tremulous is suddenly becoming vaporware? The current version has only been out for about 1 1/2 years, the game is still a blast and it still has plenty of great servers making great use of it. Do you honestly want the developers to rush it to satisfy the few drooling idiots in the community? Developing a game takes a crap load of time and I would bet all my money that the everyone working on the next version doesn't want to make the same mistakes that the team behind Natural Selection made with many versions. What part of "It's done when it's done" didn't you understand? The next version will be when it is released when it is perfect. Flame off

*cough* Some dev needs a development blog */cough*
Seriously, it would put a stopper on all the 'They aren't really working on it anymore' topics. Unless, of course, you happen not to be working on it anymore...

Down to the wire, Timbo: make a blog or come clean. :P

uh actually it would make things much worse, development tends to happen in bursts, and in between there is almost nothing or absolutely nothing, and that is what would make people complain.

TOPIC ON!
How about a 1.1.9 release, just of the client for the three basic operating systems, already backported, and with just the three most basic patches: sort-by-ping, brightness as a menu option, and Options on the Play page. I don't even need the vote system or anything, just the same client that worked six months ago, without farting around building one only to find that it doesn't work with my favorite (unpure as all-get-out) server *cough* u know where *cough*.
TOPIC OFF?

At the time this thread was started Tremulous development basically had come to a standstill. I didn't have an internet connection for the entire summer, and apparently I was the only one motivating anyone else (I think tjw did a few small things, and Timbo might've been working upstream the whole time like he is know, I don't know). But I'm connected again and have already given tjw two lists of changes to try out on his server since the end of August (the first one has been up for a week or so now, if you didn't notice). I only have a few more small features I may or may not ask of him, so after the list he has now is done (and this one might take a while) I'll be close to satisfied with the gameplay (if not the balance). We absolutely are taking our time with this one because we know we are slow, and the next release very well could be the last from us.
-
Thank You so much, Norfenstein. I'm glad that our little conversation on the IRC amounted to something. :D It's great to have developer confirmation that Tremulous is moving, and I firmly applaud you, sir.
-
you should have named this thread the 1.2 conspiracy
:D :D :D
-
and you shouldn't be necroing it.
