Hey there, Im thinking of having a serious go at 3d modelling, and I was wondering what the rest of the community thought as their faveourite modelling tool.
If you know the general price for a one computer non-commercial setup, then please tell me.
If not, Ill find out myself.

blender is sufficient for general use
-
Ive tried that, Ive found it OK to use, thoyugh to be honest I was a bit crap with the interface.
-
SharpConstruct / Sharp3d (use by trem devs I think)
Art of Illusion
K3D
Wings3d
Blender
CB Model Pro Beta
Anim8or
Maya Personal Learning Edition
POV-Ray
Clay3d (coming soon)
etc etc.....

SharpConstruct / Sharp3d (use by trem devs I think)
it is a mesh sculptor and no it is not used for low poly models so not by trem devs
Art of Illusion
it is java based and only have basic modelling tools[/quote]
Wings3d
Anim8or
good for low poly modelling
POV-Ray
it is a ray tracer not a modeller

SharpConstruct / Sharp3d (http://sharp3d.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page) (use by trem devs I think)
This is depreciated in favour of the sculpt mode in Blender (written by the same devs)
K3D (http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/Main_Page)
Handy intermediate level program.
Wings3d (http://www.wings3d.com/)
Good sub-division modeler. No animations, etc. Just modeling.
Blender (http://www.blender.org/)
Intended to be the "do it all" program. So far it's sufficient to make animated movies (see "Elephant's Dream")
POV-Ray (http://www.povray.org/)
There are front-ends to this such as kpovmodeler (http://www.kpovmodeler.org/en/index.html).
There is also Misfit Model 3D (http://www.misfitcode.com/misfitmodel3d/) which does skeletal animation.
