Making a new one in max. The old one i think looks like it doesnt give the rant justice. I cant do anims though :< and i need to fix some of the faces and fix the teeth and make them stick out (and more detail).

I can easily make it more detailed for more advanced engines, however I dont know how to animate in max ( i know how to in milkshape) nor port models to be playable besides wc3.

Looks quite good!
Just need to make a skin, show everyone and admire it, and maybe swap that in for the existing rant.

Looks good - I like the somewhat "skeletal" appearance of the head. The only criticism I have is that it's body looks rather lardy - like an S3 killwhore tyrant that insists on eating all of it's kills.
I'm not entirely sure, but it may be possible to re-use the animations for the current tyrant?
As for the skin, make it look like the tyrant in your wallpaper.

Three things.
The chest and shoulders really looks like a man's body (although I don't see what it looks like textured). Make it more alien-like.
The eyes are ugly, they look like fish's eyes. Close them down a bit, make them more evil, but awesome looking.
Could you extend the shell stripes on the back a bit left and right?
So what features will your adv.Tyrant have (or are you just modelling)? Acid spray? Fire breath? Sonic roar? :D

No, it will will have the fart cannon.
Anyway, another thing, the Tyrants face looks rather goofy and funny from the front, ppl will die laughing, not screaming with terror.

I think bout 1500-2000 polys, or to say it in other words: Too many to use this model.
Try to reduce the count to less then 900 polys and we will see if you model can be used.

Yep, around 1700, i havnt finished optimizing the faces and such yet. Ill work on the face and work on the back plates for, thnx for crits guys! :)

i believe most of the tremulous models are at around 500 polys, you should probably aim for that range if you want it included in a trem release.

I wasnt exactly aiming for it to be in trem, more of a base for a high res version. I can lower the polies yep.

I made him more advanced and realistic, I had to enlarge the front legs and change the proportions so it can look abit more balanced.

I want him to have a humanoid feel, the actual tyrant revolves around that IMO but was poorly done, (the structure of the arms makes no sense and doesn't seem so flexible or powerful.

Mind you, im still working on the face and will add more support under the eyes.
Like im sure iv said, dunno if i did..but ill try to adjust the back plates, i may have to remove the ones on the legs as they are taking up faces and look abit out of place.

to the gpu, 1 quad is 2 tris, i'm not exactly sure why people would ever model with quads, because it costs them (a minor amount of) detail, with no performance benefit.

lovin the eyes and the skeletal look on the skull.
I've never liked the feet on the tyrant tho, they're just pointy like crab feet - they should be more beastly.
and are you just trying to change the look of the rant or are you updating the sounds aswell - coz the roar of the rant could be a little bit more deeper.

If this tyrant is going to be the adv rant then give it the ability to act as an egg that fights, and let it have a charge up kamikazi bomb, so that all life within 50 feet is obliterated, and the tyrant dies of heart attack. the buildings stay unharmed, and the explosion is slowly expanding so people can get out of the way in time. by chance.

He can sanely use 1000 triangles for a tyrant, even a pair of hundreds more wouldn't be that bad, imo, but, the very important thing is: make LODs. Tremulous has no LODs for any model, make proper LODs and you can improve the current performance while doubling the current triangle count in the main model. In fact, if every Trem model got LODs I would bet on a 25% fps gain at large vis maps like transit.

Basically the tryant could run in, and charge up big boom by getting six or ten kills within ten seconds of each other, and then the tryant could kill itself with kamikaze move and kills all living things that are human. but not buildings.
If there is something absolutely retarded and made of dead, rotting crap please tell me, but very politely. I dont take rude comments very well.

sorry for my inactivity as i kinda forgot about this place and had some life/personal issues im trying to deal with.
For those that wants the model to finish (im sure i have the file somewhere....hopefully) ill get it setup and send it to you in whatever default model file max uses for you to use/edit/finish off, just dont do bad shit and stuff. so send me a pm and HOPEFULLY i wont forget and actually do it.

I like it.....but maybe put a horn on top of its head because when it rampages its head goes down to human head level which = instant kill! :tyrant:

you dont need to add them I just thought they would look cool that way with grey spikes sticking out of the head and lower chest

Tyrant v2 :tyrant:
A custom advanced version of the tremulous tyrant.
This model was created by Samantha Zeven, aka Werewulf, year 2007.
I'm handing out this model for people to finish off and work from as
I no longer wish to deal with it and I'm too involved with sorting
personal matters in my life. So feel free to edit this model as you
like, id like to note that:
*No animations
*No bones
*No unwrap
*No texture
The .zip contains a .max and a .3ds
Simply open the max in 3d studio max, however it was made in version
8, so 8+ should work fine.
For milkshape, simpley open milkshape, go to menu>import and import
the .3ds choice. The models Axis and orientation may be wrong, so
just manually re-adjust that by using the selection group and rotate.
As for blender users, I think it can support importing .3ds so try
that.
It's just a mesh, that is all, if things pick up then i may unwrap
the model and texture it, but as for now, im not certain.
However, I do not offer the rights of people claiming this as their
work, I wish to still have it under my own claims, so if you do use
it for anything, please remember to note me and not claim it as your
work, Id be very grateful.

just export the model you have open in milkshape into .3ds or something, i really doubt it will have animations.. im not..too sure at all.

Textures for what? The tyrant?
You can unwrap in milkshape, screenshot and draw over that an apply as a material.
As for detail wise you mean? I..dont know how to teach or tell that, just practice..alot..
And as I said, in time I MIGHT make a texture for it (which means ill unwrap it). But for the moment its best you do it yourself or use other sources.

No, the stock idtech3 polygon count is 1000 per mesh. And you can have a maximum of 32 meshes.
So, the maximum polygon count would be 32,000.

im no genius on 3-d art and even lessso on putting them into games but the poly count ishow many of those"plates"are in the imagesome gamse can hadle loads (crysis for example) and old games go UHHH :o when u youuse lots.
All in All it looks good (it be nice whith a touch of H.R Giger in the texture)if i was gonna give it an ability id have a sort of roar (similar to the adv. basalisk acid but with no damage and less shake) or the tyrant turn itslef into a sort of nest (the player become a new alien.) the nest is like a holve but you can exit and are auto ejected After a loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg time but you emerge as a tryant. The nest it very vunerable but has higer than average regenration. When the nest is blown up i thuns intoafleshy mass any aliens within the nest are trapped untillthe mass fades away (very long time just to add balance) its a gamble but it say its worth looking into.

the idea was the rant could become a sort of hiveish thing that tuned any alien (exept rant) into a brand new rant (taking longer the lower level you are e.g goon= 2 min dretch = 6 for balance of course) it takes a while and the hive is weak and if its destroyed theres is wreckage that stayes there for ages. any alien that were in the hive are trapped in the wreckage until it explodes (some 3 min l8er) then they die.
Or a screenshaking roar like the advance basi acid gas (exept weaker)

One thing that I have noticed that I dislike about the tyrant is it's "charge" animation makes it look way to much like a spider. It should be some big beast, not a spider thing like from Spy kids 2 (I know that is such a little kid movie, but I saw it with some friends for the hell of it and it was the best reference I could think of. ((Also I'm 28.)) ) If you don't know what I'm talking about, go devmap a large map such as Transit, g_alienstage 2, give funds 9, g_thirdperson 1, and than that one something like g_thirpersonrange (I forget the cvar.) and set that to 100 and "charge" and you'll see what I mean. I am no modeler or animator, though I am thinking about trying to pick up the skills as a hobby if I have the time, so I have no idea how hard this would be, but that is just my problem with the current Tyrant.

For an advanced Tyrant I think that when it charges and roars the roar should shake the screens of humans around them or blur it a bit. Think the big baddies scream in Bioshock.

I kind of think the tyrant doesn't really look like it should be a spider at all. Obviously the dretch etc look like spiders, but the goon and rant don't. They do seem more "alien" which I think is a good thing.

Personally, I never really liked how the Tyrant's upper body looked Human-like.
I mean, it does pretty much look like a chest, arms, and head, unlike its more spidery comrades.
My version of tyrant would be a little more crab-like than the current version, to reflect upon its toughness and health.

Why don't you ask for it in irc. I am sure the devs make up one just for you. "One Thursday night drunk trem devs attempted to shoot miruru-beam out of their eyes at passing by cat. They missed it and hit spider instead. But it was radioactive spider that had hour ago bit an annoying news paper photographer. Now it mutated due too many random events and started to wreck havoc in world."

just export the model you have open in milkshape into .3ds or something, i really doubt it will have animations.. im not..too sure at all.
