Tremulous 1.2 is currently under development, most of which, as I understand it, concerns gameplay changes and balance tweaks.
Other than these sorts of things, which have been discussed and are being play-tested elsewhere, what would you like to see added to 1.2 which already exists as a community add-on? Not some cool idea that you've heard of, but some feature which you can already currently add to Tremulous that you would like to see bundled with the next release.
As for me:
1) an "official" Mac client (w/ fixed sort-by-ping)
2) backport included
3) Options pane on Play page
4) brightness as a menu option
That is, just a basic and lightly patched client, all-in-one download, for each separate OS, somewhere on the main site. (Oh, the vote system looks pretty cool, also.) As I've said elsewhere, this might even be a good idea as a 1.1.9 release, to re-energize the community prior to 1.2.

(don't know if it is already integrated in the next release though :-?)

that's done
4) brightness as a menu option
probably need to do something about that
5) Share and donate
all of the devs i've asked so far are strongly against this.

wtf?

all-in-one download for Mac client w/ backport is not on this site
backport is shown on tjw page as a separate item for Mac client
Options pane on Play page does not come stock w/ Mac client
nor does brightness as a menu option (as you have stipulated)
nor does sort-by-ping
sry i edit'd ur reply
it was making me crazy

as to share and donate, that is server-side, I'm generally referring to client patches which could/should be bundled
ditto unlagged toggle
HUDs are a separate issue, but as I am not a HUD fetishist, idc
@Undeference: u mean because 20060704.dmg contains a backport?

sort-by-ping is a UI fix...get a new hud like warriors'
I don't think you understand what the 'backport' is if you think it needs to be added.

not gonna happen.

that's what I mean
I don't want a new HUD
I want it bundled with the client
if the backport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backport) doesn't need to be "added" why does the client come without it? yes, it modifies the older client to work with new features, but it also adds a GUID
@Anthony: if you've never played with a different client than Windows, how would you know what other players are seeing? genius
I'm saying bundle the three downloads you need to build a Mac client into one download: client, backport/GUID, and basic patches, and host that bundled download on this site

if you havent read my post, how do you think your comments will not make you look dumb for answering them, GENIOUS

that was fun
but srsly
OK forget it

Timbo has already rejected a recent proposal to host a recent client on the downloads page, so don't hold your hope. There are enough clients floating around already, such as this (http://www.trem-servers.com/index.php?page=downloads#client) one.
Also, with 1.2 coming around soon (don't quote me on that) I'm not sure how confusing changing the client download on the main page will be. An update feature on the 1.2 client to connect to a central repository of updates maintained by the dev's should be looked into, if it hasn't already, to avoid the swarm of clients 1.1 has.
-
I would like to see a singl player mode (non-multiplayer) where you play against bots (kinda like Am|ne's server but better :) )
-
Nitrox - forget it.
Bots are to complex. Maybe you could try to write one but there will be no bots in 1.2!

that's the problem
there are so many versions of the client
and servers are now so "unpure"
that at some places you can't even spawn
even with a fresh (and lightly patched) install
I think there needs to be a "community" release
to regroup
and take stock of "progress so far"
to prevent further splintering of the Trem community into camps supporting different versions
but whatever

Funny you should mention that. (http://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3214)
But it's not included yet.

vagina attracts aliens.

Then why don't they all go to the om rather than the male humans? But I do think it is a nicde idea for trem

TJW has ported some code from the SVN version back to the stock version (the backport client), and is widely being tested. But the current SVN gets basically no beta testing, because there are currently 2 SVN servers with 0 players. If we all agreed to put together and download an updated client, then we could test. Until then it's up to TJW's backport.

come back to Zubs !Bot! server, he is improving them a lot :)

Proper compatibility teamoverlay patch. (server side capabliity, clients can turn it off, etc)Currently you can't normally use risujin's teamoverlay successfully, but apparently TremX has completed the patch quite successfully.
As well as re-enable chat bubbles - another risujin patch. He's coded a great patch on MG patches, and if you used ps->viewangles to detect roll, and added some significant values to the chat bubble origin and rotation it would work quite well. (In response to the dretch/granger/basi wallwalk rotation issue.)
-
Chat bubble are more important than sort-by-ping, brightness as a menu option, the Options pane on the Play page, or an all-in-one download (with GUID)?
And why would I go get a HUD for a UI update when I am asking for these upgrades to be included in the next client? At least your second post here shows that you actually read the thread. My response can only be: then go download it elsewhere, since that's where it's currently available.

The ability to turn Unlagged off.
The ability to (someone suggested this a while back) use the number keys for selecting stuff in the build/evolve/buy menus.

You mean, without the use of binds?
-
I think Lava knows how to bind keys. Tribes had a similar feature, where the num keys were specific loadouts, iirc. Like in Q3a, where each weapon was a num key. I think that would be pretty cool, personally. For Aliens, it would be classes, for Humans, buy binds for weapons.
-
I'm quite sure he knows how to use binds. Aside from the pedantism directed toward his use of 'ability' (to which binds would be included), I wonder if 1.2 would have any keys hard-set to specific actions such that customisation would be restricted. I ask, not because I feel this is preferable, more that I have seen this done in other games and wonder if (and why) this would be done.
I personally appreciate the extent to which keys are user-definable in tremulous and I would agree that the default bindings should include something to avoid those in-game menus. They might be helpful for starters but are a bugger to deal with later on.
I guess the ability to turn those damned things off would also be a welcome addition.

sorry, forgot to respond to this
this is what I was hoping for
becuz some players just want to have whatever updates flow down the pipe
without regard for what file goes where
but maybe the open source nature of Trem
leads to a more DIY aesthetic
maybe the devs like minimal oversight
and think "if you can build it, go ahead and do so
if you can't, then now's the time to learn"
idk
that seems to be the case
even valuable members of the real Tremulous community
like those who host webcasts
will say flip things like
"get a real OS"
when noobs ask questions
-
That would be handy, but I think the open-source nature, as you mentioned, might be the spanner in the works.
Oh and you quoted him saying not to quote him. Lawl!
Edit:
Well, while we're at it I may aswell mention a few things I'd like to see fixed at least for when 1.2 comes out. I personally feel these are more worthwhile changes than the drastic gameplay ones which are being proposed:
*Currently, if you switch to blaster while reloading your primary weapon, you will start reloading that too. Then when you switch back you have to reload the primary weapon again. This is incredibly annoying in mid-battle.
*The various bugs for abusing the lucifer cannon such as holding +button2 for unrestricted charge holding time or pressing secondary fire to minimise the expense. These should not be seen as features as they defy the point of the back-fire.
*The server browser could do with some improvement. This isn't that important though (especially when you can use GSB (http://www.gameserverbrowser.net/))
*As I have mentioned, the in game menus for selecting buildables/buy weapons/etc. should be more readily shortcutted.
*The redundancy of having +movedown bound without +speed attached to it. There is no change to speed and yet it allows you to regain stamina while crouch walking.
