 HOw do you do all that? I get horrible build times from a lot of lighting when it gets to IlluminateRawLightMap. You seem to do lots of these maps that pop up quickly one after the other but never seem to have a point.
-
The map geometry is automatically generated. The large build times are due to the whole map being structural.
-
ya, just do gensurf, but im telling u, the build times r HUGE!!! xD but it actually looks kinda cool in a weird way....:)
p.s. AND THEY DO HAVE A POINT!! xD lol, y else build maps? and the map at the top is the ONLY map that i ever used gensurf on, all my others didnt hav gensurf, they were homemade if u will....xD
-
okay, im going to upload that map to my filefront, download if u really want to....
-
FATE will do a better job for you.
-
is that some sort of 1337 comment? cuz i gots no idea of wut it means... :P
but whatever, i wont upload it...
EDIT: too late! :D :) its up http://files.filefront.com/gensurfrockspk3/;8553406;/fileinfo.html

Personally, I would never touch Gensurf unless I was doing a seriously massive terrain job, like an ET map.
I use a personalized version of SOC's terrain tutorial.
-
cool, where can i get it? is it free?
-
It's the technique described on his website: http://www.simonoc.com/pages/articles.htm
See the terrain blending article.
DASPRiD used this method in Ancient Remains.

That's good ole' Lava for you :D
It kinda looks like the randomly generated terrain created by those French students...

Gensurf terrain is not randomly generated.
-

OKAY! get my maps at my googlepage from now on. i got direct ftp finally! wooot! its on my sig at the top.
-
It is not random, but follows mathematical algorithms.

Or you can paint a greyscale heigthmap and use that in Gensurf, that's the way id Software did it for Quake III Team Arena's terrain maps.

lol, well all i do is click a few buttons and....abrakadabri! foom, there it is. xD

I bet that if you toy around with Gensurf for long enough, you can come up with some pretty nice pieces of terrain.
