Forgive me if this was already posted.
What do you think the worst way to build a base is? I personally hate it when the humans cram their base into a little corner on ATCS. What was even worse was when some genius decided the base should go on the passageway side... :roll:

Any human base without a reactor.. aka whenever someone decons the reactor because they need bp for teslas..
I prefer cramped bases to really open ones with no turrets inside.
Any base on Uncreation sucks, and the walkway/ledge base on transit.. you take the risk to move over there and it NEVER works unless you are up against fools.

Ah. Okay. In that case;
Humans
-Turret line blockading nodes, medi, and arm. While it blocks tyrants from reaching anything valuable and quickly dispatches smaller aliens, it a) invites mara or even goon hoppers onto the reactor where they easily chew through the metal unless a human team is there to shoot them, b) wipes out half the base if one structure is destroyed, a luci is fired, a nade is dropped, or a battlefart is cut, and c) doesn't kill anything unless it's right there. Unless humans pursue the alien, it has a 99.9% chance of living if it leaves the immediate vicinity and waltzes right around the corner.
Aliens
-Anything with floor trappers, high-ceiling acids, or hives. Why? Common knowledge among regular alien builders;
1) Trappers have a cone-shaped FOF. On the floor, they're pointless; humans have to step right on them to be effective. On walls/ceilings (especially far from the human) they're very, very effective.
2) Acids are proximity damage, not acid-contact damage. This means that even if the acid particles hit you, the damage is figured on how close you are to the actual tube. High-ceiling tubes = ~1-2 damage per second. Wall-above-or-next-to-the-door tubes = Major HP rapage.
3) Hives are slugs with wings and BP hogs. Simple. Unless the human stops for coffee on his way back to base, there's little to no chance the slooooowwww, build-point sucking hive dwellers will even keep the attacker in sight, let alone catch him and eat him. You can build more effective acid tubes in place of these hives.

Worst base? Well I once saw someone build the reactor next to a door which led to the alien base, which no defenses whatsoever on the other side.

All I've got to say is how funny I find it when I build my base, and we reach S2 and they decon a turret to put a DC in front of the turrets and then get a gun and fight like that was all the base needed.

I once was in a game where someone deconned the armory for an extra turret.
I politely asked him to return the armory and he replied something like this: Fuck off you noob, i'm the builder and turrets are great defenders.
Seeing how my team was waaaay better then i was -in the eyes of the 'builder'-, nobody was going against him.
I grabbed my rifle and blaster, went through the atcs hall, killed 1 dretch and died to a goon. Spawned with Ckit and deconned a turret. Build arm and explained to the builder how you can buy stuff through an armory.
He said thanks and he said he was srry for being so rude.

I've always been partial to egg farm bases.

i was in a game yesterday, really good base. i had built a turret semi-circle, great rants couldn't kill a single one. then 2 noob builders join start deconning all of my ruts, to build a def comp to build teslas. i am aruging with them about how noo, we don't need it, teslas arent the greatest as they believe. then while they are building and im deconning i see a basi go on top of the reactor, and im like k fine, im gonna let the basi kill the rc. and no one on my team noticed this expect the dead people, while the 2 builders were wondering why they couldn't build a dec comp and started deconning almost everything until the rants finished them off.
i was laughing pretty hard at the end

The block arm in ATCS basically guarantees an SD/stalemate match (under usual circumstances), both a blessing and a curse depending on how much you like endgame ATCS matches.

I can say only one thing, the WORST way to build the base is not to build it at all.
All those new players, and the rest can have fun deconning and building, let them learn. But when your team leaves the base alone and goes with rifles against goons, knowing that they will not shoot 2nd round before they get killed... thats where I want just to leave the server.

me i honestly cant stand it when someone builds a wall of armorys, one the armorys waste points bad.....and the and you can be sitting there shooting and a rant comes up and rapes a portion of the armorys they blow up or blow up when u are next to them when ever im in a server when this happends the genius builders try to put them back up when we are surround by all alien life forms instead of trying to build and fix other things....so thats my opion :-?

Here are some examples of bad base building:
1. Know how you hate walls of turrets that block all access into the base? And then you are forced to jump over them to get in or out. Replace all those turrets with teslas.
2. Barricade-spam. Just say no.
3. Trapper-spam. But instead of normal, put them all on the floors, hoping to force humans to jump over them.
4. Egg-spam, in only 1 room, all on the floor in a tiny bunch. Grenade away!!!
5. Forward eggs poorly hidden and dangerously close to the enemy's base. Spawn-camp anyone?
6. Sucky bases (see above) made by a designated builder, so that no-one can replace the structures.
Remember kids, a good denybuild will save your base!!!

Someone decided they should move the rc then never got around to rebuilding it as a bunch of rants mauled the base.
Another annoying thing is when people build medi right infront of nodes. Ends up in a big jam and no-one can spawn.
Generally imnot to concerned with many turrets accept when people put them in doorways.

as a defence line in base = either you are killed by a followed dretch when you try to heal on it, or your medkit action is being removed and you have to heal LONGER inside the base.

The worst bases are those that are as hard to navigate for its inhabitants as they are for its attackers.

building retarded ass forward rets.
cause then you build forwards medis and arms because a lot of people are sitting on those rets.
then you build forward nodes cause people don't want to run from whats left of the base to the forward rets.
then a goon hops you ret line and eats your RC and you lose making every other player on human team blame lag, each other, the builders, anybody but themselves.
moral of the story don't spread you base out thin.

I support this majorly.. one time this person who had designate thought it would be a good idea to put the turrets behind all the vital stuff including the arm... yeah that didint end well :roll:

Also, to be on topic:
HUMANS:
-Moving bases while in the middle of an invasion. So many retards do this, I could grab a nade and finish it for 'em.
-Moving bases while everybody's out on a mission. No cover+no power=INSTANT LOSE if so much as a dretch is walking by.
-Deconning ALL the turrets for teslas. Many a game has been lost due to a single marahop of the DC combined with a noob builder.
-Deconning the reactor/other vital structures for BP to build teslas. This, as crazy as it seems, happens all the time when new players think ckitting will be fun when they just downloaded the game and installed it.
ALIENS:
-Deconning ALL acid tubes for BP to build nothing but hives. Hives suck when humans can easily get out of your base. They outrun them too easily.
-Ground trappers. I could teamkill for this.
-Clustereggs. I could teamkill with a tyrant for this.
-Forward bases. If you have to decon more than 4 defenses to build a forward base, it's bad. If you have a buttload of BP and a well-defended base, then you can build a forward egg/booster combo or two.

Along those lines, the forward "base" that consists of an egg in the middle of the path that humans will take to the alien base, with no defenses, not hidden, etc. The perfect one for them to either kill for quick credits, or camp around and spawnkill for credits and stage advancement. I generally TK those eggs first, and then inform the builder why that egg sucks.
Which is fine, until I realize the builder was in the process of "moving" to that location, and did so by building just a single egg, went back to decon everything else, and I've now killed the last egg because it was in a stupid place. And oh yeah, since the OM just went down, humans rushed the base and killed the builder too. Whee...

Heh, I actually find that the semi circle base in atcs for humans is the best, yet one goon can take out all the rets alone..... so you cant really leave it alone hence, uber camp.
Also most builders need to learn for aliens Trappers are your friends, I find a well made trapper base is much more effective, than half of the other attempts at bases i've seen... on each entrance to the alien base there are like 4-5 good spots to place trappers.
you can put them on the center post pointing inwards into the base, traps em every time until they kill em, and on all of the alcoves on the bottom.
On the tom on the edge of the farther back slanted wall, 2 on the wall inside the ledge just as you come into base, and also in the grooves in the cieling on an angle will often even hit the large front entrance as well as the top.
Also putting the booster onto the ramp is nice, almost nade proof unless the nade in on/ right next to it, putting an egg closer to the edge in s1 on the floor on the normal platform gives creep tot he whole other side, not blocking the fucking ramp going up to the om with tubes/hovels/cades -.-
Also if you didn't know if you build a tube, and or hive on the bottom of the pipes lining the backs of the rooms the models disappear so if oyu build the hovel on the ramp not fully blocking so they have to go under the pipe, and build a tube, and trapper over it on the pipe invisa insta trap/kill ^^
unless they kill the hovel >.>
Umm also human base in the middle, is toast if aliens get s3, aliens base in the middle, hold up pretty well... 3 tubes and a trapper per entrance... (Yes it fits if you place carefully) an egg each side hovel blocking nades from om.....booster on either side, not both, and erm...... well yeah maybe a hive, cause if they get trapped it hurts a LOT xD
that's all I have to say... my bases hold up fairl well, so I figure they're decent ^^

why do noobs always believe testlas are better then rets?
the only place they are good for is stopping dretches and not being snipable and covering turrets. that is the only way they are usefull, reason why turrets are generally better is because longer range smaller targets....
sure testlas are good but for all you noobs out there who decon every turret there is a combination of turrets and testlas work better than a base of just one!!!! and dont noob block when some1 is building

with 100 build points in 1.1 i find it is almost never worth wasting 8bp on a dcc to build teslas*, since proper bases do well enough against dretches anyway.
*exceptions being when you can't cover the top of the reactor with at least 1 turret, or when you're playing on a server with the zap of doom (which requires religiously making sure that a mara can't get a clean zap off on a turret without dying, or 2 suicides costing 6 evos can take out an entire base singelhandedly, but those don't exist anymore)

the worst wat to build a human base is having all the turrets forward leaving the back of your base naked, noobs do this alot and then a goon comes along and hops past it all and the react and nodes are gone, all the while humans are out rushing aliens....

Always have an armory. No base works without one. I think the map was arachnid 2... not sure. The one with crate walls.

The base lasted well into sudden death, though the teslas were damaged by tyrants and had to be replaced occasionally.

i was once playing and our base was being built on aracnid and when i was running back into my base with 50 hp by retarted builder build an armory infront of me so with my limited indurence i couldn't make it in and was malled by the tyrent behind me

Yeah, the one thing that really sucks is an accidental/stupid TK at S3. That can change the tide quickly.

Most of all when, on atcs, a lucibsuit sits, camps and spams at the middle ramp in human base, and a helmet/larmor/luci guy jumps down the gap between the base and the middle wall thing, as a fully-charged lucifer cannon eats his ass end. 860 credits down the drain. Especially with that bugged retribution.

Here is one of the worst ATCS bases I have ever seen. Note the almost total lack of defenses where it counts most, at the telenode (the single telenode).

And, of course, everyone was off killwhoring instead of actually making the base good. This was during a brief lull in the conversation.
Needless to say, this one got totally obliterated in about three minutes. It only stayed up that long because I was making constant repairs.

Top of bunker base can be effective on high bp allowed servers. It needs a teamwork, good communication and more then 7 players jetcamping on human side. 4-5 MD/lasgun jetpackers, 1 repairer and jumping goon will be dead goon, all other aliens cant get up there, so its relative safe. Its good basis to make base on ground
But this is really bad, i admit. 1 dretch can kill 4 turrets.

If the others had taken the time to build properly, perhaps it would have been a much better base. The lack of defenses on the stairs made it possible for one of these :tyrant: to charge past everything and destroy the rc and node.

Bases should never feature an RC in a strait line from the door. Or nodes. Or arms. Or any major structure.

I just played in a bad base. I don't recall the map, but there were more than six turrets between the nodes and the arm, and they blocked each other.

I'm guessing they wanted to give the :human::human::human: a chance seeing their base was even worse, and when the :human::human::human: didn't take the chance, they attacked the :reactor:.

I can say only one thing, the WORST way to build the base is not to build it at all.
All those new players, and the rest can have fun deconning and building, let them learn. But when your team leaves the base alone and goes with rifles against goons, knowing that they will not shoot 2nd round before they get killed... thats where I want just to leave the server.
Well, that's not a very fun reply.
The worst base ever is one on uBP, hands down. 99% of the time, a human has to jump to get through, and Tyrants can't get through their bases because the builders are usually high on build points.

I find that the worst human bases are the ones that are as equally hostile to allies as they are to enemies.

If you want to be well off defensively, you can build your base very far away from the enemy base (at least as aliens). Or you can do this:

My teammates have called me the Builder God (I know it's not true, don't get your panties in a twist) so I hope I can say I know a LITTLE about building.
Deconning can be a part of the building, certainly, but man you have got to know the BEST way to do it. A teammate of mine decided to help me out and build, and I got into a little argument over him about turret placement. The fool kept telling me to stop spreading my turrets around and to bunch them up into a neat pile near the base. I told him that, in a matter of tactics, having them bunched together means our alien friends not only know EXACTLY where all the turrets are, but if one blows up you'd better not be around. HOW DUMB?!?! So, when I stopped building and let moron take charge for a round while I went and fragged some, he piled them in the middle of the aisle near our base and, lo and behold, "Base is under attack." I came home to a lack of turrets and a maurauder eating away at the top of our reactor, the builder's body lying not too far.
So, I usually take charge of building now... :P

I perfectly agree. But what is worse: This + friendly fire turned off...
Build a human base to the plantroom in NIVEUS.
No way. Those bases are excellent, for rants have a hard time to reach them, goons can't snipe them easily for the ceiling is stuffed with pipes, you have three entrances providing you a straigt line of fire, the punishment you can deliver is immens. The only thing is that you need a really experienced builder.
Btw, bad bases - and this remark is the reason I warmed up that old thread - are always the result of two things:
1. noob builder
2. two builders with very different building styles, where none of them wants to cease build and defend the other guy with a rifle.
There is an old saying: If you want things done, tell someone to do it. If you want it not done, tell several people to do it.
