Title: lag/bug/hack????
Post by: [EVIL]Unknown on May 12, 2006, 04:18:06 am
ok now lately ive been having much trouble in the beergarden tremulous server.

when in a game playing as aliens i would be playing as usual and from time to time the evolve menu would just be popping up.. now i thought maybe one of my buttons were f'd up but i checked and it was nothing...as i kept going i would sometimes freeze in place able to look around but not move like someone turned g_speed to 0. also at the same time no one could shoot neither human or alien alike.  then the evolve menu would constantly try to pop up if i had no evo points i would notice the evolve points number flashing as if it wanted to pop up??? i checked my lagometer but no jumps or spikes ping was fine and fps were fine also..

so what could it be?? is it lag....or a bug?? maybe someone hacking?? i noticed at times certain people were able to move and sometimes i would be stuck in place yet moving slowly towards humans??

thought at first it was server which wasnt restarted in like 40 days so shafe took care of that and it was nice and fresh restarted. but still it happened a few more times afterward..

any ideas??

Sounds like lag spikes to me (I've had some experiance with that.)

Had this same freeze bug a few times as alien, dretch usually, for a few seconds cant move at all, could only look around. No lags or anything, the lagometer was looking just fine. I dont remember having the popup thing though...

That's a know bug cause by players with non ASCII chars in their name. Although the exact causes aren't know yet ( as far as I know ), there's a fix which filters the invalid chars at the server level available.

https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2719

This is fixed if using the most current tremded.x86 and  game.qvm from http://tjw.org/tremulous/
