Well, im getting a feel for this new editor, i just need to know a couple of things.
1) how do i rotate a texture?
2) how do i make a texture give off light?
3) how do i do anything related to the Curve menu?
4) how do i make ladders?
btw, i dont mind being directed to some good tutorials.
EDIT: added #4

1) Select a brush and press 's'. The surface inspector will appear with a rotate variable
2) To give off light a texture has to be a shader. Shaders have a white outline in the texture browser, though not all shaders give off light. Generally, if it looks like a light, then it will have light.
3) Make a brush of whatever size, select it, do Curve > endcap, cylinder, etc. > select the new curve > press 'v' to enter vertex mode > drag the vertices around.
There is much much more to curves, but that will get you going.
4) Make a ladder sized brush and give it the karith/ladder texture (it is a shader btw)
http://bubba.planetquake.gamespy.com/mapping.html is an okay place for some tutorials.

use your keyboard, use your keyboard, use your keyboard ...
there are a LOT of key bindings to do everything. At the beginning, it is a real pain, but after a short period of time, you can work very quickly.
