Right Click the icon then choose "Properties" then under "Shortcut" click "Change Icon..." then in the top of the "Address Bar" paste the "Computer Address" of the pic then click "Browse."

My computer has a 2.93cc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghz) processor! Does anyone know where I can get some cheap hard drive fluid?

Use the "Freeform Select" part of MS Paint or what ever program you are using and cut it out.

ThirdStreetTito, if you didn't notice, he made it so that if you open internet explorer, it shuts down the computer. I'm sure he doesn't use it very often. :P

I have found the HUD files in base/data-1.1.0.pk3, but I can't open them. Photoshop only shows a blank image and Inkscape gets an internal error when I open the containing folder  ??? ??? ???

Photoshop apparently shows a blank image, but look for a Channels tab (I think it's next to Layers, or in the Window menu, cba to check right now) and select Alpha.

No, you don't win.

I suggest a more destinctive image: A dretch on a human head with redly glowing eyes.

Sorry, pal, altough my image is not much more than a draft and a good artist would have to redo it, the concept is clear and good.

I win.

your Icon was 196x196 px... is that allowed?  If not, here is a 128x128 version:

EDIT: oops didn't save transparent color.  Will re-up if 196 can't be used.

EDIT2: /nitpick you need to do a better job around the legs... they still have the floor texture visible between them.

Yep. But you could do this with a dretch on a human face with red eyes.

The first icon of all would be the ideal, as it is simple, suggestive and goes well in a small format. However, it needs a bit more tuning.

Here is my own, based on a marauder (it's a single icon with different standard formats):
(http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/imgs/icon_48x48x24bpp.png) (http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/imgs/icon_32x32x24bpp.png) (http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/imgs/icon_16X16x24bpp.png)

I can create the icon, but I need to know if it is worth first. I'll make the artwork available if there is a request from the creators to move on.

Please, let me know your opinion.

I had this idea between lunch and lunch.:D A good icon for tremulous would be a simple logo that could stay well on low resolution formats. Here is my sketch:

The idea behind this logo is the letter "T", composing a very ambiguous figure: it can be a human face (with a bit of the armour showing) as well as it can be an alien face. I think this sketch has the potential of giving a much better icon than the one I posted in my previous reply. It was slightly inspired on the Quake III logo, but that is not noticeable. The colour scheme I'm thinking is blue with a chromeish contour, like a painted metallic logo with a polished bevel.

Not bad cumesoft, it even looks like a real icon ;)
The peoblem of making something with letters now, is that it should relate to the logo somehow. So for that design the trem logo should be changed too :P

Zybork's idea is not bad either, it just need some work done :)

PS: i love ending sentences with smileys  ;D

Thanks for your feedback. I was not aware that tremulous has a logo. Being that the case, I guess I'll have to stick to the traditional icons.

So, anyway, I decided not to wait and post the final icon and artwork. This may not be the definitive icon, because I never know when I'll get a better idea. So, here is the artwork:
http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/temp/tremicon20080111.zip (http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/temp/tremicon20080111.zip)

And here is the icon (I call it final, because it is the functional icon file, not a final version of the icon):
http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/temp/tremicon_final.zip (http://pessoa.fct.unl.pt/22375/WWW/temp/tremicon_final.zip)

You can test the icon by downloading and unzipping "tremicon_final.zip", and see the behaviour of tremulous.ico by right clicking and selecting "View->Tiles" (48x48 format), "View->Icons" (32x32 format) or "View->List" (16x16 format. When I made the icon, I took into account that the internal formats have to follow a specific order. In Windows 95/98/2000/NT you will not see the 48x48 format. Older icons often use the two smaller formats, but no problem there because the OS will assume the correct format (they are in the proper order).

Edit: The SAs of my university server are plain dumb and didn't warned the students about the migration. The migration took too long and was not made properly, as you can see by the new adresses.

Sorry because of the unavailability of the icons. Due to the stupidity and arrogance of the system administrators of my university the problem took to long to be solved.

Wow! I'm impressed. That was fast!

The shape is very good, much much better than mine. However I was thinking on a crude metallic contour around it, like forged iron, or anything like that. The red would be filling the depressed inner part of the character.

Perhaps you may want to change the lighting on the character. In my opinion, the side faces are too dark, like there was no ambient light.

What exactly do you want/mean with "crude metallic contour"?
A like rusty metallic edge around it? (Going for it right now) :D

It's called alpha or transparency. I think it should be 0 to be invisible. You need Inkscape/Photoshop or something like that to set alpha.

Other way to do it is to select all the white stuff and delete it, then, when you save it as .gif, the background will be transparent...
