Title: Karma (on the forums)
Post by: Coolicus on December 28, 2007, 05:39:28 pm
Ok now I understand the concept of karma, but I dont mean to be nooby but is plus karma good here or bad, Im struggling to define the context. Eg plus karma could mean that you have that much "good" karma or it could mean karma is going to bring some heavies and break your door down. burst into your bathroom and turn your doodle into a cocktail sasuage and then proceed to insert a large pointy stick into your new party snack.

But this beats all.

Here almost no-one has positive karma is not necessarily because they did wrong. It maybe because someone felt like smiting everyone. On these forums, I'd say the more negative you are the more popular you are. ('cept for admins and mods)

Wow, and I thought I was paranoid. You definately need some sort of  mental examination. Karma is good. But apparently on here, the more negative karma you have, the longer you have been a forum poster.

Yeah, karma is good on this system, it's just that everyone on this forum apparently hates everyone else. Welcome to Hell. :D

I don't bother with karma, it gets treated like crap. It gets the brains abused out of it, and that's why I don't use it.

I like the rep. system on GF. That way, newbies can't bring down your reputation because they felt like it.

You should not care about that karma-stuff. The only really good thing about it is that it indicates those people that are really retarded, for they will have a karma like -9999 or so. In any other case, karma simply does not matter.

Well, karma doesn't really matter, as everyone else here has said.

The lower your karma, the more popular you are (with the exception of Caveman, who's just hated by everyone).

HOORAY NEGATIVE KARMA!!!!!!!!

OH TELL MY, LORD OF MY ANCESTORS, WHAT DID I DO WRONG?

Yeah, karma doesn't really apply anywhere. Most people on the MG forums have negative karma (I have -64). Negative can mean either A: You posted something that pissed people off; B: Some one hates your views; or C: You got smitten just for the hell of it.

I think that negative karma is normal here.

We should treat those with positive karma as outsiders and should shun them...

SHUN!

If even I have a positive Karma, then there is something seriously wrong with the people having a negative Karma.

Personally I hate this type of karma system.

I get smites all the time whenever I make a post about an idaea being bad even if I'm polite and I give several reasons to base my opinion on.  Whereas when I post a shoopdawhoop and my karma rises. And yes I noticed the tendency...  ->  it is based on grudge and not constructive posts...

I once visited a forum of an MMO browser based strategy (queosia.com - the english version) and it had a karma system where you had to tell why you gave - or + karma and it showed to the victim. Also the higher karma you had the more it counted. And if you were in negative your smites/applauds didn't count. I'd love that instead of this or more likely I'd love if this karma would be turned off...

ed.: lol I post this and another smite... it'd be good to know at least which posts of mine attract the smiters :o -2 now! Lava also had his dropped by 5 now, just after his post. See? ::) - complete nonsense...

hmmm I guess karma sys would be nice also without smiting.
when I see something that i like and i have nothing more to add for that, i simply applaud.
but if something is wrong, there is more reason to explain than smiting - that would just boost the dumb posters.

or is this problem too global? ^^

btw/ofc, I like the trolling and negative replies also if it's coming with a cute bunch of humour.

I have achieved perfect balance in life, and have maintained a Karma of 0, despite my activity on the forums. Or maybe no one really cares about me. *Sniff*
On a side note, Timbo has huge positive Karma, and someone had negative 300 or something.
