Title: Secret lag?
Post by: Higher Game on January 13, 2008, 05:05:09 pm
Sometimes I am on a server with low ping for me (40-60), but everyone else has 200+ and they accuse me of making them all lag. Are they just jealous that my connection is so much better, or can the ping numbers actually get reversed somehow?

No, your lag has no influence on the lag of others. Mostly. I guess there are problably some totally exceptional cases where what I just said isn't true, but I don't have the motivation to think them up.

on Z|R Chicago, when a european who already has a bad connection connects to the server, it sometimes causes lag afterwards, even if he has +/- 400 ping, which is bad but I've seen worse.
I've seen servers slowing down to nothing because of a person joining with ping of 300. How it works, no clue :P

Its because the server can't handle that many people, and craps out.

Exactly. Clients in Tremulous cannot make other clients lag with their shitty ping. Tremulous is not a 15 year old RTS-game.
