I realize nailing turrets with dretches is essentially a thing of the past now (when 1.2 arrives), but I made these videos anyway. Just quick visual guides to taking out the default turret placements on the more challenging maps :

Hope they're useful (or at least interesting) to someone. You'll need something that can play quicktime encoded h264 files - if you don't have QT, VLC should do it.

+1
good job!
and it's definitely more fun to play against turrets single player, than mine seeker or passians when u have no connection ^^
oh, and +1 for the smooth quality!

very nice work, very nice quality congrats! ;D

You have good taste in music My Bloody Valentine is good
I prefer to do this:

Good videos! Thanks!
VLC played them perfectly, and gratz for the quality :)

Because there will probably be 1.1 servers left after 1.2 releases, your pretty videos will have some value. Nice job.

Do niveus next!
I've seen it done, although it might be harder than the others with only one life...
-
Bet you cant wait for 1.2 :P

Is niveus hard? The layout I always see is very easy with 1 life, and I'm pretty sure it's default.
EDIT: btw what are the soundtracks? I recommend to add the name of soundtracks to end of video next time.

Excellent vids, I just took a look and I would give you a gigantic karma cookie if I could. I'll try going one-on-one with a ret in ATCS. :)
-
hehe, baseraping could have been part of an alien side single player version (also kind of tutorial) for tremulous.
hmmm... it's not even that stupid. i could imagine this as a kind of 'portal' game. the OM could constantly speak to you just as the computer does, and at the end she could sing a bit ^^
-
LOLWUT? Everything else is good, but the OM singing...? ???
-
WOW very informal! and i was told a dretch couldn't beat 2 rets!
like optimus said, nice quality, usualy the videos are like lagged....so for a mixture of taking the time to find a separate movie recorder AND killing all the rets in one hit, +1!

*necro*
Sorry about the [very] late reply guys, I've been on a bit of a trem hiatus for a while now *whistles*. Cheers for the feedback as well :D

The 4 vids on the bamn page are the default maps that had at least one paired set of turrets -- the other default maps are all [reasonably] easy to knock over because each turret is isolated. Niveus is particularly vulnerable as the elevated turret can be clipped by a dretch hanging onto the barrels without any risk of injury & then the armoury/reactor block fire from the other two turrets when you're taking either one of them out.
My original idea was to do a video for each of the default maps regardless of difficulty but I figured people wouldn't be interested. I might knock over the remaining maps just so there's a complete set of vids on the site. Transit could be a tad amusing ;)
I was tempted to do a video for uncreation as the turrets are wider spread & no doubt there's some awesome-crazily-difficult-jumping-routine you could employ to take them out but unfortunately all the rets are damagable from the underside of the platform which kinda takes the fun out of it.
EDIT: btw what are the soundtracks? I recommend to add the name of soundtracks to end of video next time.
Yeah, my bad. I still have the source files somewhere, I should add soundtrack accreditations to them but in the meantime:
ATCS
Come in Alone - My Bloody Valentine [Loveless]
Karith Station
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor [Rocky Soundtrack? Prolly their own album too :P]
Tremor
Shylock - Buffalo [Volcanic Rock]
Arachnid2
The Only One - DJ Dangermouse/Jemini [Ghetto Pop Life]

Umm, why is "dretch vs turret" out once 1.2 comes out? I'm missing something important am I not?
Is there a place where the 1.2 changes have been centralized? The svn changelog (http://svn.icculus.org/tremulous/trunk/ChangeLog?view=markup) has stopped at 1.1.
-
atcs hall turret is super easy, even noobs can do that. the two turrets front are a little more difficult but still, easily done. Niveus is even easier since the first turret (alt entrance) can be done without it firing a single bullet. The other two are decently far apart, the only thing you have to worry about is the RC. Getting ontop of the turret and staying just outside its firing range typically works best for those two.
Dretches can no longer hurt turrets in 1.2. One of the more 'how many drugs does Norf have in his closet again?' changes.
-
What's the reasoning for that? If dretches can't damage turrets it's a very strong advantage for human camping. How about naked riflemen not being able to damage alien structures either?
-
Play MGDEV a few times (once should be enough) on ATCS and you will very quickly find out why dretches shouldn't be able to harm rets ;)
1.2 rets have slower turning and have a warm up time so that dretches can get past them and kill the humans hiding behind them. However, this doesn't work if dretches can damage rets because it would allow dretches to not only bypass rets but destroy them. So the change was made as an *anticamping* measure. Rets have longer range and do double damage though, so they defends against larger aliens better.
