Title: Another mod IDEA...

well i was thinking it was interesting and all to have the alien controls when i first started playing tremulous.... but what if there was a third race? Im thinking that the races could be re-done to fit something like starcraft!  i think it would be pretty interesting to have a giant ultralisk (RAWR) go after this little human with ghost (nuclear launch detected) equipment and then get assaulted by several zealots (for adun!)! that would be pretty sweet.

I myself am not a big coder and i cant do much but if anyone would create this mod i will gladly do whatever i can (which is not much) to help.

Just so you know, this idea has been discussed maaaaaaaaaaaany times before.  I am guessing that someone else is going to shout at you for not using the search button.  In the end, this topic will probably be about random stuff with a lean towards the Protoss.  If you want to add a third team, go ahead.  You are not likely to get all that much help, though.

A third team would be pretty tasty if you could fit it into the whole Trem storyline.

Fragged, how long have you been playing Trem? If it isn't very long, then just play the game a lot more and you'll begin to understand for yourself the problems involved in this.

i have been playing for a while... i see the conflicts and yes i know i probably would get flamed for this but i just thought of the idea of a third team and it sounded interesting!

If a third race was implemented all the maps would need to be redone, public games would be even more chaotic, and you would need far more people for a decent game than you would with only two teams.

which is a couple of the many reasons i would get flamed for suggesting this and not able to do it myself.  I was just suggesting a little twist i dont expect this to take off  but if it did then that would be sweet!

Fragged , every idea is a start of every mod for modders , without ideas , mods are either worthless or crappy (unless random accidental suprem creation with all the crapy ideas mixing together , LOL )

as for creating a whole new team takes up alot of time

Primary
- What are they called
- How do they move / what type
- Evolutable or Equipment buying or maybe both
- Who are they fighting against and for what reason they must

Secondary
- Models
- Weapons models (if needed)
- Evolution Model ( if needed )
- Armor or Armorless
- Shield (if possible )
- Weapon range type ( meele , ranger or both )


Personal Opinion

3rd Team Type - Machine

I would say having a 3rd team is a good idea , my opinion is that the 3rd team have low hp but covered with power Plasma shield protecting them from any harm , the 3rd team can buy and evolute (weapons have weights)

Evolutions : higher defense / hp / shield and can wield heavier weapons depending
Weapons : Weapons with different ranger ( mainly meele )

I should probably add, the lack of a third team probably isnt so much a lack of coders as a lack of modelers.  If you could learn some modeling program and make teh appropriate models, some one would probably be willing to write at least some of the code.

im going to try and explain these.

Name.... no clue.

Im guesing that they would be like the protoss looking like them as well as similar technology. Maybe the standard unit would be a protoss zealot type unit. Small mech suit with blades to use but you could buy upgrades to improve movement and speed. you could buy different suits for your unit which give varying control, power, speed, and armor.

The upgrade system would be interesting.  Im thinking of having a cred, evo mix. the system would be Honor Points.  The species would be warlike and so war actions would grant them Honor in their society.  More honor means better stuff.  You could build buildings to give you new weapons and a building for armor classes and you buy from those similar to humans.  The evo part would be part of their religion (similar to the protoss) where they do somethin or other and spend honor point where their deity allows powers such as upgraded speed or psi powers or such.  They could be temporary, life based, or game lasting.

They would be fighting the aliens to wipe out the danger of them taking the galaxy and fighting the humans because the humans are too greedy and too curious for their own good and are stupid to try and stop what only they can stop.  i gots to go and ill try and extend this later.

The weapons would be a combination between melee and ranged.  Their melee weapons will vary in size, power, and speed such as the zealot's dual blades and the Dark Templar's blade.  The ranged weapons would be mostly medium in range and maybe one or two long range weapons.  I think that their "ultimate" weapon would be somethin like a sword,  gun hybrid (ultimate as in being luci and tyrant).  It would be harder to use and it would take practice (and it wont be as strong due to the variation of ranges) but it would be good.

One last thing that i can think of (and probably will think of for a while) is their health system. They could have 50 base hp with shields to help them.  The better suit that they buy the more shields they have and different effects apply to their movement and such.  It all depends.  The shields should at a max give a total of 150-200 hp/shields (in my opinon).

Remember these are my opinions and you dont have to use them. I am just suggesting ideas.

lol. If you want comi-nazi thing, then make the robots controlled by Nazi-communists.  But if it were me then i would actually like something like starcraft with a more sophisticated alien race. (like protoss)

@OP: This has been suggested many times. It is the mark of a n00b to even discuss it, and of a dreaded Starcraft fan for actually suggesting it.

Next you'll be asking if Tremulous is a copy of Natural Selection, then you'll want to know what Gloom is. Maybe next week you'll proceed to suggesting vehicles in Tremulous or new buildings. You might even progress to something like trying to give the Aliens Human attacks and the Humans Alien attacks (H: Zapper, GasGun, A: +basi=lasgun, +mara=prifle).

See how easy it is to think up silly ideas? I should know, I've started way too many threads in this section myself. Take it from someone who has been flamed before, and in many cases, deservedly so: do the research to not make a complete n00b of yourself. If you get a silly idea, think about it for a minute. Maybe someone has already thought of it and the reason nobody ever did that is because that would suck.

Do yourself a favor and delete this thread before the flaming gets any worse. For the sake of the poor developers of Starcraft, whose game has been wrongfully slighted these many long years because of thoughtless posts by people like you. I say this not out of any sense of malice, I only hope to stop you now, before you enter the realms of the severely smitable, not just the clueless and somewhat new.

Since there would really be no reason for Toss peeps to be in town around the Planet X territories (its spelled wrong i think) I came up with a storyline.

Due to heavy Warp Gate malfunctions, Protoss forces have arrived through a eons-old gate, now blocked from getting home, Luckily, they managed to create a one way gate, using some of their remaining Probes. Now they had a new source of soldiers, and so the entire Protoss society had focused on this event, having finally stopped the Zerg by letting them run the Intergalactic Mcdonalds. Having built a Pylon, they search through the ruins of the old planet, discovering much more than they expected.

Upgrades,

High Templar
Basic retort for Lucifer and Tyrant.
Probe
Builder class, can be switched back into like humans can.
Zealot
Melee warrior
Immortal (GO LOOK AT THE PROTOSS FOR STARCRAFT TWO IF YOU DONT KNOW)
Ranged warrior
Zealot Gun
Upgrade for Zealots, allows them to shoot a limited number of psionic blades until they have to go back to Pylon to recharge their long nerve cord.
In order to heal, the Protoss player must stay still for a moment and hold down a key, allowing them to gather energy to heal their wounds.
Has two health sections: shield, and physical health. Shield will recharge, Protoss must gather energy to heal physical damage.
Only Probes will be able to fly, since we will have continuity errors otherwise. (Probe laser! Yaaay!)
All Protoss have their "emergency" weapon like Humans. They have a light psionic shock attack, (crap) which is ranged.
