Title: Pro-Player Weekend Server: Config Draft
Post by: Smokey on January 20, 2008, 08:37:49 pm
For those of you who don't know, Long ago Zilla & SGA Hosted a Weekly (Weekendly actually :)) "Pickup". This consisted of passwording a server and only distributing the password to skilled clans and players. This makes for actually fun and challenging gameplay.

Now that Zilla has Servers, We want to do this again. We need a config for the server that players will actually agree with

Code: [Select]
set sv_pure "1"
//passwords
set g_needpass "1"
set g_password "passhere"   //server password
set rconPassword "lolsekret"   //rcon password

//loading screen
set sv_hostname "^1Pro-Player Weekend Server"
set g_motd "Brought To you By ^4Z^7illa.                                          Visit Us @ Http://Zilla-Clan.net"

//allow downloads from the server
set cl_allowdownload 1

//maximum number of clients
//greater than 24 is not recommended from a gameplay point of view
set sv_maxclients "20"

//after 35 minutes, all build points are removed
set g_suddenDeathTime "25"
//after 60 minutes, the game will end as a draw
set timelimit "35"

//forces each team to have a similar number of players
set g_teamForceBalance "1"

//following the first map, start this rotation
set g_initialMapRotation rotation1

//misc settings
set pmove_fixed     "0"
set sv_minRate      "5000"
set sv_maxRate      "15000"
set sv_minSnaps     "10"

//Friendly Fire
set g_friendlyfire 1
set g_friendlyBuildableFire 1
set g_friendlyfiremovementattacks 0

//Default mapconfigs file
set g_mapconfigs .

//Unlagged
set g_unlagged 1

//Downlaods from }MG{
set sv_wwwDownload 1
sets sv_wwwBaseURL "http://downloads.mercenariesguild.net"
sets sv_dlURL "http://downloads.mercenariesguild.net"

set g_clientUpgradeNotice 1
set g_teamImbalanceWarnings 120
set g_suddenDeathMode 0
set g_allowShare 0
set g_antiSpawnBlock 0
set g_floodMinTime 0
set g_dretchpunt 1
set g_privatemessages 1
g_maxnamechanges 99
g_minnamechangeperiod 0
set g_retribution 0

//start this map first
map atcs
set g_alienBuildPoints 124
set g_humanBuildPoints 102

Any Suggestions?

stock bp and a shorter sd, other than that it looks good. (and maybe no atcs :P)

My $.03:

Just my suggestions, but you may find it depends on the groups playing at that time.  But you could also do !commands to change them as well, or on the fly with rcon/screen/etc.

Atleast 102 for each, so they don't get stuck with 6 buildpoints.

And what do you suggest for SD and TL?

Remember that this is a pro server. The teams will likely work on some level, although probably lower than a clan's, to get shit done. These won't be the everyday never listen noobs. But if anything, 25 SD and 45-50 TL sounds good to me.

you only get stuck with 6 bp for exactly 2 nodes and no teslas, that's fine but 102 is fine too. sd shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes because it was meant as a way to end a game that was almost over with one team (humans camping or aliens eggspamming) barely hanging on, not as the prefered alien method of winning. also sd mode should be 1 (0 gives aliens an advantage because om can be rebuilt but armory can't, 2 lets you drag out the game with armocades, i think you remember solilo's tremor bases holding out indefinitely through sd)

I agree, no Pounce / Trample FF.

Also, what maps will be played?

Please, more than just ATCS.

I think the others covered what I would say.

Shortish SD/TL. These are pickups. There's no reputation to protect. People don't need to be camping whores.

No pounce/trample ff because those are just stupid

BP not more than 102, if not 100.

SD Mode 1

Thank you for leaving share off.

No unlagged = Better gameplay sometimes

Keep unlagged on, the game is better that way and most people and servers run unlagged on.  I'm surprized Yarou would cast a vote for unlagged being turned off since SGA server has it on.

SD starts at 20 or 25.  Timelimit 10 to 15 minutes later.

The SD mode where nothing is rebuildable.

Thanks for having share off.

Less than 108 BP.

All FF on.

Modified for Maps:

I like the basic rotation minus transit and uncreation.

Ones I would add based on feeling that they are balanced include ATCS III, the Bunker, gloom 2.

Ones that I feel would be fun include infested pump station and sector 17b.

So this seems to be like an acceptable config.
Maplist please?

I'm sorry, next time I will be sure to backup my statements.  :D

Also let me add a few g_commands.

Code: [Select]
set g_unlagged "0"
set g_suddenDeathTime "15"
set timelimit "45"

set g_friendlyfire "1"
set g_friendlyfireHumans "1"
set g_friendlyfireAliens "1"
set g_friendlyBuildableFire "0"

set g_votelimit "2"
set g_dretchPunt "100"
set g_friendlyFireMovementAttacks "1"
set g_suddenDeathMode "0"

Reason for SD so low it will keep camping to a minimum!

Edit: Smokey you wanted a maplist.  Let meh see.

Code: [Select]
atcs
atcs
tremor
nexus6
atcs
niveus

Maybe a custom may in between tremor and nexus.

One atcs is damn bad enough.

Stock maps - uncreation   is standard fare. Outside that and it's hard for everyone to agree on anything, since most of the custom maps haven't been played enough for folks to come to a consensus.

These are pretty safe bets:
utcs
atcs3
thebunker
gloom2

After that, I have some favorites, but they're more obscure or recent so nobody's going to have much of an opinion. Do the above and we can add some more to make votable.

How are you going to decide who is invited?
Title: Re: Pro-Player Weekend Server: Config Draft
Post by: St. Anger on January 21, 2008, 07:32:33 am
20 SD
30 TL
Unlagged
No pounce or trample ff
100 bp
No share

ATCS-UTCS-Niveus-Nexus  (More than that, but just some preferred maps)
Title: Re: Pro-Player Weekend Server: Config Draft

How are you going to decide who is invited?

He is going to write everyones name on a paper towel, wet it and throw them at the ceiling(soap mine please lol).  The ones that stick are invited.

But seriously its probably will be a lot of clans, plus people everyone know as quality non clan members. They figured it out before, and I remember it being fine. So I am sure it will be fine.

Keep in mind that although it says pro-player weekend, that doesn't mean you have to be so good that there'll only be like 20 people invited. Others may recall some of the players who were invited the last time this was around, and although they didn't come in and own with everyone else, they were still considered just good enough to hang out, and that was pretty cool imo.

i suggested this, just changed the sd up a bit, but also you should vary the maps, do soa s this.

Code:maps:

atcs
atcs               note:dont do transit or karith, they are too big of maps = egg spam
nexus
tremor
niveus

you can choose if unlagged is on or off, like do 1 match with unlagged and so forth

Might I suggest a maprotation.cfg mod (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=6799.msg102766;topicseen#msg102766) that changes the map rotation based on the number of players?  Smaller maps for fewer players and vice versa.

Small maps that could be fun for 2-4 players: UTCSb2, nano-beta1, battlezone_final
Larger maps?  The standards, sophcom_pre1, derelictb-beta04.  I'll try to remember the names of others.

ATCS is way overplayed IMO, I wouldn't include it at all.  Hell, I'd take if off of the server if so many other maps didn't rely on its texture set, etc.

Server up and running!

Info @ http://zilla-clan.net/pro - If you post it here you're going to be banned.

Also, If we don't know you then you're clearly not pro, so don't even come.

The most different setting I see is suddendeathtype is 0.  Hopefully though with good players there won't be camping till sd.

Remove SD, remove TL. Sudden Death only makes Aliens wait for it, and a timelimit only makes playing games useless.

Then tell us who you are when we ask.

As for the trial, It went pretty good. Considering a less than one day notice we had quite a number of good games.

Pretty sure this should be sv_allowDownload instead.
Other than that, good work, hope it goes well. Perhaps I'll come spec some time.

I would like to see a large amount of non-stock maps.  Hell, my first idea when reading this topic was to include everything but the stock maps.  Try some new things, like D*S Arena, nano-beta1, procyon, pulse, etc...  ATCS is too boring.

Also, maybe include some stock maps, in case people are really interested in playing a certain map, so they can callvote it.

But besides that, it seems fun.  I remember the last one.  It was a great server.

I agree with Lava.

Idea: Have maps in rotation be based on players in server.

So huge maps aren't played when there are 3 people.

When having a day to play with old trem names and players that are generally respected, aliases should be left at the door.  It's really annoying.  I completely understand not wanting to be your regular name all the time, but that server isn't the time or the place for it.

+1.  I'm really tired of !namelogging, !setleveling, and !listplayering to find out who people are.  I'd rather know who I'm playing with and not the fake name of the people I'm playing with.

Better check IPs to find me.  setlevel and I'll just start changing qkeys >.>
If I have to be tracked to go somewhere, I will do whatever I can to not go.

Why different names?  If I wanna talk, I'll go to irc, if I wanna play, I'll load up trem :)

Incidently, the name I use in trem is an alias, perhaps I should use my real name?  ::)

Kevin sort of has done this last couple evenings. We pick a map decide whats a good number of people to play. Pick captains and play. They have been some fun games, but there more just pickup games.
