I think, that most of Trem'ers have played Counter Strike before, like I did. There was a lot of good maps, which could be played in Tremulous, like bouth de_dust's, de_aztec, cs_office, and so on. So my idea is to compilate somehow those maps, to make them good to play Trem, too. For example, place where start terrorist - alien base, plase where start counter-terrorists - human base. What do you think about it?
PS I don't have any map-creation ability.
-
I think decompiling those maps and converting them to trem maps would create legal issues. If you want to go recreate similar maps feel free as long as it doesn't contain copyrighted material.I am sure that mappers rather make their unique maps than stick to old ones from other games.
-
I think that if you want to go play a CS map, go play CS and leave us Tremmers alone.
Porting maps from other games is an instant phail.
-
There's issues as others described, but on the whole, ports from CS make more sense than ports from most other FPS games.
Also, this is in the wrong forum. Should be suggestions/feedback or mapping questions. Probably suggestions.

Modern Warfare vs Alien future wars?
What am i missing?

Office could work, not so sure about dust(s). But you probably would be better off making it from scratch but following the basic overview.
-
I think Dust 2 would work if you shorten the hallways and add a more extensive underground area.

No, technical and social issues. Personally I prefer seing more maps that are not pseudo space stationish. We have a lot of those already.

That might be because that fits in with the whole Tremulous theme. Aliens, high tech laser guns, space stations.
As I said before... If you want to play Counter-Strike maps, go play Counter-Strike.
HOWEVER, I think that a sci fi map for CS or even Urban Terror would be awsome.

I dunno, I think the LOS in de_dust would make the level nigh unplayable for the alien team. I'm not sure how we could cut down on the human bias. What do you think?

Why is it red?

Why is it red?
That is light from uncreation's skybox. It is not visible in the pictures because of my low visual settings.

1984, ADOC, TheBunker are all modernish maps in Trem that fit with the theme just fine. There's also plenty of non-space maps, like Ancient Remains, Metro, Hamunaptra. I don't know: maybe I'm not too worried about what meshes well with reality when it's clearly not real in the first place. I think any moment I might start to feel the game is real, I might remember that I'm playing as an alien, or look at my HUD, or have to pull down the console to ban some jackass deconning. That all tends to make me more concerned with variety than reality in the maps I play 9000 times.
Nathan's complaint, on the other hand, is probably true. Maps from a game mostly built around sniping people around corners over long distances might not do so hot when there's melee-only aliens involved.

You can deal with the legal issues.
-
That as well...
I'm not against the whole idea, I just think that aesthetics are important. Perhaps a map based around a city could work if things were futuristic-ed up a bit, like in HL2.
-
Most of the maps in CounterStrike are not aesthetically pleasing. I only want to play de_dust in CounterStrike. It is the only game that plays that map well. I have played that map in countless other games and all don't have the playability that made it famous in CounterStrike.

I don't think that there's such a shortage of Trem maps that we need to go importing a whole bunch from CS, NS, Gloom, or anybody's fave mod. I'd be more in favor of putting that energy into some kind of PlanetTrem repository, with screenies and reviews, but a little more navigable and prettier than the sub-forum. Not that I'm going to do that, or that I think the sub-forum is in any way lacking, I just think it would be a useful resource. I might be able to provide the storage for the reviews, but not for the actual map files. I wouldn't have the time to do many of the reviews, and somebody else would have to set it up. But I could try to keep the main page updated, and provide the space. Anybody interested? I've got a blog and some storage space... Hrm... Maybe just a review site, with links to the }MG{ site. Oh well, maybe soon means this year. Patience, mod-lovers, patience...
I certainly don't support getting maps willy-nilly from other games and thinking that they will make good Tremulous maps.

PlanetTremulous could work...
