Title: Useful Mapping Links
Post by: TRaK on February 24, 2008, 12:47:39 am
There are almost certainly a couple threads like this already, but I think it would be a good idea to collect a large list of mapping resources and make it available to those who are interested. All the previous attempts haven't made it terribly far as far as I can tell. I'm sure most mappers have done a lot of searching for various resources and have come across a few treasures. This thread is to make them easily available in one convenient location :)

Assuming this idea takes off, I'll be updating this post with the links posted in this thread.

First of all, the application you mean is named Radiant, not GTk.
Secondly, stop whining about not being able to find a deprecated version of Radiant. 1.5 is current.

First of all, the application you are referring to is called, GtkRadiant-1.2.1.3.exe.
Secondly, I was not "whining". One of the tutorial hyperlinks advertised GtkRadiant-1.2.1.3.exe; and instead redirected me to GtkRadiant-1.5.0.
Dolts like you don't deserve the interwebz.

Just don't call it "GTK" as it can be confused by a lot of other programs, not like anyone here doesn't understand what you mean.  :P

They only take you to 1.5 since the GTKradiant people removed all older versions from their site.

I don't think it's on any of the lists above; relatively inactive but still very useful forum for solving any issues with the mac versions of GtkRadiant.

Wasn't there a thread with reference pictures for dozens of real locations that could be used for mapping inspiration?

For sounds, you can also use this:

Although are intended to be used in FLASH, you can download them as mp3 or wav.

So I'm thinking it's about time for some cleanup.

I've gone through each category, and the links below are either broken or gone altogether. A lot of them are pages from ign.com, which keeps displaying a 'maintenance in progress' page, but I'm assuming that they are just gone.

If someone could find an alternate website, it would be greatly appreciative.

TRaK, man. I'm here to inform you that some of your links don't work.

Right now I'm just doing some texture surfing, so that's the only section I'm checking, but you should know that the following links are broken or otherwise inaccessable;

The Wadfather
Photorealistic Texture Pack
Q3world texture links
Undulation
Speedy's textures
MrClean's
2theCore
Nunuk's fragopolis
Cardigan's skyboxes
jaj's skyboxes
StrangeFate's Textures

ALSO, ShadowNinjaDudeMan's website is down, as are Supertanker's and Gareth's.

I know, I know, hypocrisy (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=5481.0), right?

Flashkit is the best for free sounds. The only other site of its quality costs for its sound effects.
