Title: Post Count Hidden?
Post by: player1 on February 25, 2008, 04:03:30 pm
I'm about 50 feet from the router, but within the last few clicks, suddenly postcount disappeared. Feature or glitch?

No biggie; just thought I'd ask.

Neither. It's a blessing.

Feature

Just reduce a bit of the instant gratification for post-count spammers. Not like that information is extremely relevant to anyone.

Maybe it will help reduce the spam, but some people just don't know how to, and what to post. Whether or not the information they posted is needed (i.e. one word posts).

Just kinda weird that I just recently joined the community few days ago, then all of a sudden post counts are hidden.
I didn't do it, I swear!  :-\

600th post! (it was 598 when the thing disappeared. ^^

It's good thing it does not exist any more but now we can't identify if account might be made just to spam.

THE ALMIGHTY POSTCOUNT HAS GONE!

now if only we do that with karma....

I understand why YOU want the karma feature gone :P

LOLZORZ! -350 or so for tito.

Post count was only useful for knowing if you could change people's karmas.

I don't think karma should be removed. When used properly the Karma system works surprisingly well. I'll probably suggest some *changes* to the system to better suite Trem.net, maybe even a reset of everybody's "scores" once that happens.

But really people need to spam less and stand on the merit of their arguments. These forums were once a really cool place until all this kiddy business came around.

Speaking of changes, even though every time I log in, I choose "forever", I still have to log in every time I visit the forums (this started within the last week or so). I used to be permanently logged in. Another change?

player1, your internet just sucks balls jk XD LOL. My log in doesn't do that when i put forever, it stays forever, its perfectly fine for me.  You must not have favourited the forums or somthing or you dont go directly to them every time.

Oh, yeah, I deleted all my Trem bookmarks and surf here from Apple startpage maybe that's it. I used to use the bookmark, so I'll have to go back to that (Favorites to you Windows ppl=Bookmarks on a Mac). I guess that would explain it...

Hey you should add that "[" back to your sig. All the first characters got dropped during the move from phpBB to SMF.

(Favorites to you Windows ppl=Bookmarks on everything else)
Fixed :>

And yeah, I was gonna suggest clearing cookies.  I have my "home page" in Firefox set to a list of sites, so opening FF opens all the sites in tabs.  I've never had to login since telling it to keep me logged in always; not sure why the Apple start page would be any different, but then I only ever used Safari to download Firefox...

Wow.. I didn't actually realize that until I saw this thread.
Didn't really care for the +1 spam.. but.. not sure how i feel about that area over there being so blank yet :/

Obviously it doesn't work well here, and I don't think it works well in general unless you personally choose who is allowed to post.

I never really look at a person's post count, and am fine with it disappearing. I am not a fan of karma either, but that probably just because I didn't know so many people don't like me. :(

Maybe we could get a join date to replace the empty spot?

Roci what did you do for 10 days on here?

Reset the karma for those ppl who have like 40+ and maybe for me. ;)

Roci what did you do for 10 days on here?

Sit at work with very little work to do and hit "refresh" a lot.

A whole lot.

(Un?)fortunately, I've actually got work to do again.  But two major projects right now (one will be done in a week or so, the other maybe 2-3 weeks after that), and then they're renovating our building this summer.  Which means most people will not be here, and except for the work that I need to do in the server room (maybe a week's worth) I'll be hitting refresh a lot again.  And/or actually playing from my laptop, which I haven't had the luxury to do since around November...

@Tito: Much nicer looking sig.

@Shadowgandor: Good idea, but I guess the overall thrust of it seems to be to look up the person's profile, before just considering them a n00b. It does look empty, though. I guess they are "letting the white breathe".

... I don't really know that myself. But hey.. we have some people around here with 50+ karma who rarely post and when they do only post moderately interesting stuff.. so it can't be that hard rite ;D
Maybe you should join a karma clan :p

Forcing people to go through the profile to find post count (because it is worth it) might expose them to the other stuff in there as well.. some stuff in there might help give you an idea about the person.. but nothing beats reading what they have posted in the past.

Yeah, that's the sense I got of it. You look at a few of their other posts, and you either see them as a person, or a possible sock-puppet account created for spamming. :)

[offtopic]What happened to your location showing up where karma/post count was?[/offtopic]
Title: Re: Post Count Hidden?

Yeah location only exists in the profile now also. I think someone has been cleaning up the look of the place. I thought there was a way to only show sigs once per page, but maybe I didn't look in the right spot. I don't mind, it helps me find certain posts, but I thought other people might get sick of seeing distinctive sigs repeatedly on the same page. I guess we get that, to make up for the loss of our beloved avatars (which we might've had for about sixty seconds on day one, iirc).

Is time of day (in the graphs) based on the user's location, the server's location, or some independent time such as GMT?
