Hi Guys. I'm having an issue with my server, and i followed the guide word for word. Also looked around the forums for a couple days now and I'm not finding anything. Anyways this is my problem. I'm running Window's Vista which has so far proven to be a major PITA. It sends a heartbeat as if its connected. And I can connect to the server via direct IP. But when I'm in the server people can't find me using Find Friend and my Friends cannot connect using my Direct IP. So its there and sending a heartbeat. But no one can connect to it. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
If you need additional info please just ask i will help to the best of my ability
Edit: Also it does not show up on the server list. Thought i would throw that in there.
-
Sounds like firewalling. You can connect from within your local network, and nobody outside can.
Check the PC hosting the game, any NAT routers/firewalls between it and your Internet connection, even the device used for your Internet connection could have a firewall in it. That plus a couple searches on the forums should yield an answer to your problems.
-
i have port forwarded, i use linksys. and i have even turned my windows firewall off. still no sucess. :-/
-
Can you connect to your server on your own pc?
if not you got a server problem.
if you can connect to your own server it's probably a firewall problem (ore portforwarding)
you can check your port with this http://www.canyouseeme.org/ (http://www.canyouseeme.org/)
goot luck with your server

Thank you. and i looked at the site, the ip that i have from my router and the ip that site is showing me are different... So i dont know how accurate that site is. Either that or my pc is telling me an incorrect ip. but i doubt thats the case. ill look into it more later though
-
Its unlikely the site is wrong, unless your ISP have an evil proxy. (Or NAT you, but then your screwed anyway)
EDIT: canyouseeme.org doesn't seem to have a UDP option, so is useless for this.
-
well i am behind a router, and when i got to ipconfig /all i get 192.168.1.140 which is what my server is running off of, and that site isnt even giving me anything close to that ip. Like i said in my first post i use linksys. If there is anything else i need to check please let me know.
-
192.168.1.140 is a private lan only IP address.
-
so how would i go about port forwarding the ip address the site gives me. do i have to contact my isp or what.
-
You have to set a rule in your router that forwards the port your server is running on to its internal IP. So you might say forward port 30720 to IP 192.168.1.140 This tell the router that all external incoming connections on this port should go to this particular internal IP.
Then for your mates to connect give them your /external/ ip, the one you get given from visiting a site like www.showmyip.com followed by an ":" and the port number - so it maybe something like 207.194.82.64:30720
Later you could do as i do and get a dynamic DNS address from somewhere like www.no-ip.com so that when your external IP changes as it may do if you reboot your router, it will update the dns name with the new ip address and your mates will always be able to connect using something like Argetlam.zapto.org:30720.
Visit www.portforward.com for more information on port forwarding.
Hope that helps.
-
as i said in my first post, i have port forwarded on my linksys. the port forwarding is done. so i have no idea why people cannot connect.
-
Whats the IP and port?
-
Argetlam if you could post a screenshot of the console box ( blue box that opens when you start the server ) we might be able to see if something is wrong.
And giving us an IP/Port will also help alot.
-
Alright, well thank you guys so much for all your help so far. i really appricate it. the ip and port the server is on is 192.168.1.136:32123
and here is the console window

Still not getting anything.
You arent giving us the proper IP ?
192.168 ips are router/modems mostly.
Your gonna need to figure out your true ip then post it so we can connect properly.
Another thing you might want to try is to change the name of your server and check master list a bunch for it.
I noticed you have it as My Very First Server and theres what 50 of those on the master list.
-
well i have it as that because i redid the whole server folder, uninstalled and reinstalled yesterday. but before i had it a different name
and this is my true ip 67.163.213.122
-
Well, after some initial checks I can ping that IP.
You need to go back and double check your portforwarding. As the IP youve given in the last post is inconsistent with the IP the server reports it is running on.
the ip and port the server is on is 192.168.1.136:32123
Opening IP socket: localhost:32123
Hostname: Home-PC
IP: 192.168.1.101
Working directory: C:\Program Files\Tremulous
execing server.cfg
It is essential that the portforwading is correct. Also you probably want to give your computers a hard coded IP (in network settings) so that the router cant change their IP's at boot-time.
Regards.
-
Ok i tryed to connect to the true ip and cant get on.
Follow what Oddity is telling you and make sure you have your ports forwarded correctly.
You might want to change the port to something else then default and make sure you forward for that port also.
-
Its a good point Rabbitt however there are reasons explained in note #3 here (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=3586.0) Why not using the default port (which is 30720), is a good idea. Hence the use of 32123.
I think he is on the right track and just needs to double check the internal IP the forwarding is in place for.
-
ok i rechecked everything and the server is now running on the ip i gave you, i have renamed the server to show {acr} test server. and i will leave it up. i can connect via my own pc but dont see it on the server list. the port forwarding is correct i went thru the guide and everything looks right. But however i still cannot connect via canyouseeme.org this is the error im getting
Error: I could not see your service on 67.163.213.122 on port (32123)
Reason: Connection timed out
which is leading me to believe my router is not forwarding the port like it should.
i appriciate you guys putting up with my noobieness
-
Its working :) 67.163.213.122 on port (32123), for us outside anyway.
Well done.. ill hang around for a bit.
-
hmm my friend cannot connect but you could, did you direct connect?
-
I added your IP as a new favorite, then clicked on it in the list. The name of your server showed up after i refreshed it all fine.
Double check he put the IP in properly and the port number.
67.163.213.122:32123
It still works fine for me now, I just checked it.
-
alright i got him in and a few more, had 4 people playing and no lag, so maybe the server will hold up which would be awesome. just need to get it into the list >_<
-
When you start the server, you need to run it with the
+set dedicated 2
option, along with whatever else to get it to appear in the master server list.
Thats all i know about it.
-
well when i open up the edit for the tremserver.bat file i get
tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set net_port 32123
which is what it should be correct?
-
Looks perfect to me.
Make sure you've configured the firewall properly on your server to allow trem to act as a server with full access if you've got those options, maybe open the port absolutely on there if you can or as a test, turn it off completely, restart the server and wait awhile to see if it appears.
Also turn Windows firewall off, it's next to useless anyway.
Other than that, I dont know at the moment chap.
-
honestly my only firewall was windows firewall and it is off now, so look around and see if you see it on the list its {acr} test
-
I should think it would be a good idea to restart the server after taking the firewall off. i expect you did that anyway.
Also is there any reason you've got 7 slots available instead of a round, balanced number?
Im running out of ideas here fella but you could try rounding it to 8.
Perhaps you could try the IRC channel if no-one else has any thoughts here.. theres usually someone who knows a thing or two in there.
-
lol was playing with bots, had to make reserved slots. with 6 bots + me and someone else no lag. that was the purpose of the test :-P. gonna stress test it harder later but so far it seems like the server will run ok. we just gotta get it on the list. will fix the slots as soon as we get the server on the list :-P
-
so has anyone found out how to get my server on the list yet. i had 8 people in there today with almost no lag so i would liek to get it running properly
