My brother was watching Planet Earth (the fresh water episode) in the living room when I overheard a very familiar sound: a marauder's death squeal. He refused to believe that they were one and the same, so I spliced this together:

The marauder sound I recorded directly from Tremulous (if you listen carefully you'll hear an RC humming in the background) and the clip of the Bear is taken straight from Planet Earth. You can decide for yourself if they are the same sound, but I'm already convinced. Isn't a nature show of Planet Earth's caliber supposed to be genuine? I feel cheated!
(Edit: To clarify, I'm well aware Tremulous uses public domain sounds that can be found all over...what's surprising to me is that a hardcore nature show like Planet Earth would be "embellishing" with sound effects added after filming.)
Cracked me up, anyway.

Yeah well, I think the sound had to be taken from somewhere, don't you?
Or do you suggest Timbo made that? ^ยค^
Actually I have heard this before.
Apparently most of the sounds in trem are freeware sounds that are quite commonly used in different things that demand.. sound..
-
Since I saw a nature documentary some time ago, I can't help thinking that the marauder's pain sounds are baby polar bear noises.
-
polar bear = bear
-
Think someone made a thread about this before.. I can't find anything though but i'm pretty sure dolby said most of the sounds were ILM sounds or just pulled from source discs or something at one point.. Stampy from the simpsons makes the tyrant sound when pulling homer from the tar pit.
-
I remember it as well.. Though I can not find it as well. So basically this post is useless. >:( But just confirming. I remember it.

That bear sounds like a children's doll.
-
Harry Potter- something or other. There's this demon book think that he opens, it screeches at him. It was a Marauder. -.-
-
And the goon sounds like the camel's in AoE.
-
Yes, this thread has been done before. In fact, I was the one that brought up the fact that that bear from Planet Earth sounds like the marauder.
-
Linky?

Yeah, I was watching Wildboys and heard a camel make a goon noise.
-
Very similar, though the bear sounds slightly higher pitch. Doesn't mean they're not related though (modified or seperate instance of bear call).
-
Substitue the mara texture for a bear texture and the world is ok again.
While you are at it, you can also substitute the tyrant model for a stampymodel, the goon for a camel model, the human for a chipmunk model and the battlesuite for a can of tuna fish.
And we could call that trem 1.2 :P
-
OMG that sounds just like the mara! :advmarauder:FTW!
-
what the heck :marauder:
-
Nah, y'see, the bear ate the mara. And when the bear opened it's mouth, the mara screamed =D
-
i watched that episode too. It suprised me aswell :P
-
I made the last post that's similar to this titled "the sound of tremulous." Looks like it has been removed. I saw that show too, it freaked me out when I heard it.
-
Yeah, I remember when that show first aired, was playing Trem at the time the baby bear showed up. Kinda throws you when you hear a mara sound coming from somewhere totally unexpected.
-
I heard a dragoon taunt right in the middle of science, once. We were watching Planet Earth, it was in a jungle.
-
Was it a bear?

ya i saw a advertisement on tv and i wasn't paying attention and i herd the dragoon taunt and looked up to see that ad was for planet earth but never found what it was.

Yes the maurder sound is also in Harry Potter, the prisoner of askaband I believe. Where they have to think of something scary and turn it into something funny is the part I believe.
