Title: Can't connect to any games!
Post by: thetorsoboy on March 29, 2008, 02:19:52 am
I need your help. When I try to connect to any game (I've tried about 20) it just sits at that "Awaiting Connection..." screen, while the count goes up forever, or until I'm booting to the main screen.

Why is this?

because your firewall is interfering with tremulous.

Had a similar issue.  I was able to resolve it by allowing incoming udp to port 30721 on my firewall.  I'm running IPFW on a FreeBSD box.  The tremulous client is on a NATed box.  The command below is what I added.    If you are behind a firewall see if you can add something similar.  If your firewall generates logs then watch the log while you are trying to connect and you might see what is getting blocked.

ipfw add 6650 permit udp from any to any 30721 in via rl0

Good luck

Is only needed if you run a server or have a *really* odd firewall.
Also most servers run on 30720.

No server and running the default firewall for FreeBSD.  Watched my /var/log/security and could see the udp packets from all the servers being blocked.  All were destined for 30721.  Until I opened that up I couldn't even get a list of servers.

The master runs on 30710, which is what gives the list.
Of 234 servers currently running, 128 are on 30720. (33 more in the 3072x range).

I'm talking about the port they are using for the destination when they reply to me.  My firewall permits any outbound.  The packets back were hitting my default "deny any any log" at the and of the access-list.  All the servers seemed to be sending back to 30721.  I didn't see any more logged drops after I added the permit.  But I also have only fired the game up a time or two.  I'll give check things out a bit better when my work we is over (about two hours from now).

brighid /kernel: ipfw: 11100 Deny UDP 208.116.49.110:30710 aa.bb.cc.dd:30721 in via rl0

I use Norton 2008. Can someone give me step-buy-step instructions on how to do this?

make a server, for some reason i couldn't connect [well i wasn't able to until i accidentaly deleted windows] until i loaded my server.  It doesn't have to be broadcasted over the internet, just up on your computer.
