Title: My new website
Post by: Paradox on April 03, 2008, 09:53:54 pm
Well, I have launched another blog for myself. After I got tired of paying for the hosting on my old one (paradoxd.com), i let it expire. Eventually, i got back to development, and purchased a new domain, one a bit easier to remember.

Anyway, all that aside, i have launched my new site:
http://paradoxdgn.com

Yes, it is Ajaxy javascript, yes it is a blog.

Please frame only constructive criticism here. That isnt to say no criticism, but things that might actually be useful.

Sadly, as one post will describe, i missed all the hijinks of april 1st, while i was developing this site.

I'm not familiar with the first, though, and I like the looks of this one... I voted "I like it a lot"  ;)

Well, thanks for all the support guys.

I have redone my site, as i recieved complaints about ajax. Yes, it was cool and all, but not really appropriate, and it was limiting if i wanted to do other things, say lightboxes or other scripts. Also, a client would get access of all the vars i created, aside from a few special ones for passwords, so it wasnt a good exicution.

The new design is much simpler and more elegant. Please give me any feedback. There is a post explaining more about the changes (http://paradoxdgn.com/archives/37), so please leave your feedback there.

In the upcoming future, i might offer people blog hosting, although it will likely be a very special, small, by request service. As i mentioned in the linked post, blog hosting comes with OpenID, so you get a very personal openID, that very few other people will have.

Sorta looks like wordpress.. and is. Though i have to say its a nice improvement over the Ajax. Ajax is nice when it is used when it needs to be used and not just used for the hell of it.

What ever happened to the pen and paper.

Some people say the pen is mightier then the sword, but then those people have never had a tower chucked at them.

Well, i turned off my lame filter for a few moments and had a look, i see http://paradoxdgn.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/banner.png still weighs in at 300k, yes most of us have broadband thesedays but it's still just a bit on the large size, try JPEG or lose the random noise. Actually, speaking of page load times, it seemed somewhat glacial, there was an awful lot of communication before anything started to render, once cached it's somewhat better but not a great first impression.

Gosh your analystical (if thats how its spelt). Can't you just say "It looks good but loads slowly"?  :D

Well, i could, but that would be somewhat dishonest, as it clearly doesn't look good... Besides, giving detailed feedback is far more useful than pointless comments about how awesome it looks.

It is slow ....

Also, imo you should centre the contents and put tags, blogroll and calender under Recent comments. It looks ugly the way it is.
Search should be at the right in the navigation panel

The banner is also a bit large (not in kb but in space)

Linked. http://neonpulse.net/links/
You had some good stuff a bit back, the E3 stuff is kinda lame though (no offense, it's just that I read up about all of it elsewhere in more detail, I like your commends on the DNF trailer though)

You should clean up your html a bit, some of it displays kinda funky in both gecko and webkit. The white background doesn't always load, so sometimes it'll be the text on blue which is hard to read.

Yes, well, the e3 stuff was done on the hour as it was released, so the quality of writing isnt very good.

However, i will start doing some real articles again.

And if you guys want some link love on my site, leave a comment on the page with the instructions and a 88x31 button.

Oh, i fixed the comments issue. Just forgot to add a few elements to my code.

As for the background, thats just a php error. I think i have fixed it.
