Well, IRC clients are all fun and great, but browser wars are where its at.
I used to use firefox (till yesterday), then lava reintroduced me to opera. Its better and better.

I love my firefox with the sweet megaupload and rapidshare plug-ins, my Fukken saved plug-in (thank you Steely! <3 ) all my sweet blockers in it. But it sometimes acts weird... but I think it's my because of I messed up my faildozeXP with the Gears Of Bugs and the beta drivers that came with it... :-[
-
I use Firefox and Konqueror on linux and Opera on Windows.
-
I still like Firefox.. maybe because I restart it every morning, I don't see a lot of the problems others say it has. Or I'm just used to them and don't care :>
Paradox: Fixed the question in the poll for you.
-
Heh. Copy & paste doesn't work sometimes ;>
-
WebKit.
-
As you can read in Paradox's introduction, I use the best internet browser there is available. It might not have the benefits of being open-source, but on the other hand, if the best browser is closed-source, I have no benefit from it being open-source.

So's everything else. I actually do that, though I'm on Mac OS X. Or I just defrag.
-
life is quick if you kill yourself every 6 months which takes 3 minuets
-
And what exactly are minuets?
-
A minuet, sometimes spelled menuet, is a social dance of French origin for two persons, usually in 3/4 time. The word was adapted, under the influence of the Italian minuetto, from the French menuet, meaning small, pretty, delicate, a diminutive of menu, from the Latin minutus; menuetto is a word that occurs only on musical scores. The word refers probably to the short steps, pas menus, taken in the dance. At the period when it was most fashionable it was slow, ceremonious, and graceful.
The name is also given to a musical composition written in the same time and rhythm, but when not accompanying an actual dance the pace was quicker. Stylistically refined minuets, outside of the social dance context, were introduced — to opera at first — by Jean-Baptiste Lully, and in the late 17th century the minuet was adopted into the suite, such as some of the suites of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Händel. As the other dances that made up a Baroque suite dropped out of use, the minuet retained its popularity. Among Italian composers, the minuet was often considerably quicker and livelier, and was sometimes written in 3/8 or 6/8 time. A minuet was often used as the final movement in an Italian overture. Initially, before its adoption in context outside of social dance, the minuet was usually in binary form, with two sections of usually eight bars each, but the second section eventually expanded, resulting in a kind of ternary form. On a larger scale, two such minuets were often combined, so that the first minuet was followed by a second one, and finally by a repetition of the first. The second (or middle) minuet usually provided some form of contrast, by means of different key and orchestration. Around Lully's time, it became a common practice to score this section for a trio (such as two oboes and a bassoon, as is common in Lully). As a result, this middle section came to be called trio, even when no trace of such an orchestration remains.
The minuet and trio eventually became the standard third movement in the four-movement classical symphony, Johann Stamitz being the first to employ it thus with regularity. A livelier form of the minuet later developed into the scherzo (which was generally also coupled with a trio). This term came into existence approximately from Beethoven onwards, but the form itself can be traced back to Haydn.
An example of the true form of the minuet is to be found in Don Giovanni. One particularly famous minuet has been written by Luigi Boccherini.
The minuet also remained in some countries as elements in folk dance, such as in Finland and parts of Sweden. The minuet is also a stately court dance of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Lol, ok. This is off-topic anyways.... xD

I use Firefox as my primary browser, FF3 Beta 5 is really rather good, Epiphany when i need something lighter and, for no reason other than it's interesting to have around, HV3, a browser written in TCL+TK
(http://xs226.xs.to/xs226/08154/hv3-shot-shot163.png)
It's surprisingly good, even has tabbed browsing and a sidebar.
I used to use Opera quite a while ago, it certainly beat netpositive, but haven't really used it in recent years.
Almost forgot, I always keep links around

-
Safari, mainly because:
A) I'm too lazy to switch my habits
B) I'm a mac fan-boy
C) It is actually a pretty good browser, has its quirks
D) Not sure about the whole "Firefox Vs Opera Vs <Insert other free browser here>" thing.
E) All of the above
F) None of the above
G) One of the other ten possible combinations of A, B, C, and D

EDIT: but then again, I am using Opera...but only since I first saw this thread which was 2 days ago...

Its people that use IE that have been keeping microsoft feeling like they could just keep screwing up the standards. Thank goodness they are taking a step in the right direction with 8... I didn't used to hate IE so bad until I started building websites and realizing how oblivious it was. Now i just build standards complient sites and if you use a non complient IE you are SOL... That is the way the net SHOULD be. (Waits patiently for CSS3)
I use firefox... but it does horrible horrible things sometimes.. I hope 3 fixes more in the not eating up my processor and memory department than the 1 to 2 upgrade did.
Opera isn't bad either.

I took my information on an article on Clubic.com
http://www.clubic.com/article-65217-1-internet-explorer-firefox-opera-match.html
It's in french, so actually a big part of you wont understand but here what they come with the loading of one web page (Firefox, IE and Opera)

that is a very good point about those glowing letters...how annoying

Woohoo! Glad to see also that IE7 uses the least memory when not in use. Although it sucks a lot at other stuff =[ :'(

omfgtfo
-
could it possibly be, gentlemen, that the popularity of these browsers to one person is personal opinion and the desire to get what bests suits them?
-
Glowing letters are apparently non-compliant with standard HTML.
They look bad in every browser EXCEPT Internet Explorer.
(Safari and Firefox letters look exactly like Opera letters)
-

CSS3= end of images for rounded corners, shadows, and gradients.
As for FF3 fixing a lot, it does, but not as much as it should. Opera is still faster and lighter.
-
could it possibly be, gentlemen, that the popularity of these browsers to one person is personal opinion and the desire to get what bests suits them?
No, it's mostly based in incorrect information and open-source zealotry. In the minds of most open-source zealots, Opera is deemed inferior merely because it's closed source. Internet Explorer users mostly don't know better or do not have the option to switch browsers. Mac users are weird alltogether, they got Safari :>
-
So they're nothing to do with those Ugly Glowing stuff?
So we are Dooomed to see it really badly...
I post these information about these three browser only to inform people, not to urge them to switch to Opera ;)
-
Glowing letters are annoying, anyway.
-
nah, glowing letters are fun
-
I had no idea all those passages of text plastered around the forums with background colours were supposed to be "glowing text", how horrible. From the IE screenshot It looks rather hackish, but then i suppose it's quicker to put glowing halos around non AA text, even if all other text on the page happens to be AA.
-
Sure, you're missing out on the ugly glowing letters, but then just think of the plethora of shit that IE has troubles rendering that FF and Opera pass by with flying colors.
-
Just so all of us non-IE browser users can see what astonishing awesomeness we're missing out on.

I use Grand Turismo 5.
Or Firefox.

Lava said
Opera is deemed inferior merely because it's closed source.
But Opera keep improving their browser frequently, there is always a new version of it when i look. Of course it's not like an Open Source, but at least, it improve.

Your phail rating has increased to 2^(2^(2^4)) go calculate that and come back when you are done.

Wait, so you crash your own firefox all the time without even trying?

our goverment internet browser is better than all of those we get 30 mg un like all of you who get at max 5 mg but that really has little to do with our free goverment browsers (plasomoft-surf browser 10.2.9). They NEVER mess up. Have no known problems exept for issues with downloading illeagal porn or somthing like that at least thats what they said in the knews about the porn. but if i had to say the best one that is foriegn to us its firefox but its ALOT buggier and slower bthough i guess that just cuase' im used to plasomoft virtuly the best browser but not availible out side the country or else the goverment might get hacked or somthing in The Districts (slang for were i live)
-
I dont get what you're trying to say about goverment thing...
And about your illegal downloading... Wtf?
-
omfg how simplified do you want me to give it to you.... Our government free browser is better than all the others with know known problems exept the one i stated above
-
mmm, looks like a ban expired.
-
Could you explain what is a goverment internet browser to me?
-
Yes, out of curiosity since you've mentioned "SNB" before, for those who don't know maybe you could explain where that is and what government (last I checked, most of the good browsers are free, so a free one from a government doesn't sound special to me :> ). My Google-Fu only tells me about the Swiss National Bank, and since you live there I figure you'd have a better time describing it than I would.
-
New Opera 9.5 beta out.
Lovin it.
-
I find Firefox (3.0) vastly superior to Safari for the following reasons:
1) It's free and nonproprietary.
2) It gives me the option to automatically restore my tabs from last time.
3) Simple, intuitive interface that can be learned by anyone who has used a computer before.
4) It includes more than one engine in the search bar.
5) It lets me reorder the aforementioned search engines. Petty, I know, but I'm a neat freak.
6) Cross-platform. I use Ubuntu Hardy sometimes and I really like having a familiar browser.
7) It doesn't automatically unzip PK3s into folders. This was a real pain when I tried to download maps.
I'd use Opera as well but it doesn't feel as friendly as Firefox. There is also no way to reorder search engines, at least not from my precursory examination.
I used to be a rabid Safari fan, but the address bar/progress indicator really threw me off. I like being able to type URLs and see progress at the same time.
-
ok i dont know about the stuff you said bomb all i know is that safari sucks and firefox is better so i agree with you
-
Safari for windows is about the worst possible thing in the world. Also I use firefox 3. It works fine for everything I need it to do.
-

It's too featureless. This is one of the few areas where I think Apple totally screwed up.

What are you smoaking (and where can I get some)? Safari for Mac is the best browser there is, for any OS. IE is shit, FireFox (imo) is fairly boring to use, and Opra comes a close second to Safari.
As for Safari for Windows, honestly, what were they thinking?
-
ive never used safari for windows only for mac so unless its magicly the best thing ever for windows then it still sucks on either os heres how i see it
mac
1 fire fox
2 IE7 ( only slightly better than safari here)
3 safari
windows
1 firefox
2 IE7 (alot better than safari here but still aways to go for firefox)
3 safari
-
Other:
1. Charon
2. Epiphany-webkit
3. Lynx

Hey, did you know you can get high if you bake banana peels, scrape the gunk off, and "smoak" it? Yeah, right.
Well, it's a matter of preference. Safari is more polished, but Firefox is more widely-supported. Some web apps won't even work on Safari.
@snb: There's IE7 for Mac? :o I thought Microsoft stopped Mac IE development when Apple made their own browser.

what do you mean mac programmers do not appear to be quake players? everyone i know who had a mac when quake iii came out laughed in my face because it ran beautiful on their fruity colored tard-boxes and everyone on pc's like me and the guys at penny arcade struggled with voodoo 3dfx crap
-
as a matter of fact yes ive seen some US schools use it on there maby not 7 but internet explorer never the less but they telll you not to use it for some reason theres a bunch of green stickie notes sayng "use safari not internet explorer" though they all have firefox too but ive never seen any one use it in those schools (not to mention they have a bunch of old junk that we have never had in our schools such a chalk board all our schools are computerized) (i did some summer program that brings you to differant countries we visited a few schools in the midwestern states)
I think it was the version Apple stopped distributing at Mac OS X 10.4.0. That one pretty much sucked.

Click INSTALL.
Yeah. Wow, aren't you the l33t one? ::)
-
I had a voodoo card, it didn't work that well, kinda like current-day ATI card drivers but way worse. The card was already outdated because it was friggin 2000, so it was old hardware, but even if Quake 3 would install, you'd get OpenGL errors galore. Windows 98 HATED those cards.

I'm sure that Dan, who is almost never on his computer, will be happy to know that he has upset the world by posting a couple times on these forums. I had to tell him to register xD
And no, it wasn't a matter of figuring out how to "fix" the drivers online (when google wasn't big, Yahoo was the main engine and it was CRAP), it was a matter of finding out which outdated version of the drivers would specifically work with your card, or e-mailing and calling a lot of companies to hear about the new drivers that are coming out in a month that will fix your problem, but then they get delayed.

just ignore him ;D
