Title: Tremulous ladder
Post by: tv on April 22, 2008, 09:51:43 pm
I've wanted to do this for a while now. So there. It's basic for now, but I'll had features as it goes.

A tremulous ladder! You report your match results, and your rating changes.

...based on what? How is clan index/score calculated in that utility of yours? It could eventually turn out to be a nice ladder system, unless clans actually decide to only report the better ones among their numerous games...

Based on the rating of both clans involved in the match the utility expects a certain score. The new rating is then calculated using the following equation:
New rating = (Number of rounds won - Expected number of wins) * constant + old rating

It's a ELO like system. If you beat a high rated clan you get more points, etc.

What if they submit false results.

Also your site needs a forum. I mean like why not.

Well.. Nice idea hope it works out ;)

I assume he'll only take submissions from clan leaders.  At any rate, any decent egotistical clanner demos themself in a scrim... there should be plenty of hard evidence.

And failure to report bad games should be avoided, because the winner would then report the results.

+1 tv, I like.  :-)

*EDIT: Waiiiiit a second.  TV... Tremulous Virgin?  No... maybe?

Reported results need to be confirmed by the opponents. :)

I will be using this as i think alot of clans will once word gets out about it.

Now to some degree we can have a top clan in trem as far as rating goes but it still wont mean shit cause the top euro and us clans cant figure out a neutral game/server.

Maybe you could separate it for differnet Area groups TV.

Like US, Europe, Australlian.  Because its hard for those 3 to mix around in matches because of time, ping, and unlagged preferences issues.

Overall I really like what you are doing, glad to see one not ran by smokey.  I plan on turning in all the Battle Turtle Scrim results we have so far immediately.

It's only a matter of display really. But yes, I surely will do pages who only show european or american clans. Not so sure what to do with other parts of the world though, they don't really have enough clans for separate ladders...

Oh well, there'll always be an overall ladder showing all the clans on the mainpage anyways. :)

Sounds really good, thanks tv.  You're probably one of the most active in the community right now for clans.  Your site is very helpful and I know at least I really really appreciate your work and I'm sure everyone else does.

Maybe I'm blind but I don't see any of the information that one would assume to be relevant? e.g. Wins/Losses/Against whom/Demo's/etc.

The demo system will take a bit more time.

So what if someone creates fake clans then uses them to create fake scrims and results to boost their clan's rank on the ladder, or is this preventable? :P

Well, I think two people varifying can be checked by IP.  Not every system can be perfect, but it is kind of obvious if a new clan appears and only plays the same clan over and over.  Not to mention, a losing clan will add almost nothing to a winning clan's score by the formula.

There's no perfect solution.

The IP check wouldn't really work because what if you have two people playing Tremulous in the same house? Or someone multi-claning?

What I can do is make it harder for people to fake it. For example only clans with 3 registered players or more could report scrims. Or, I could keep some stats from clans.tremulous.net online's list and see if the clans are active, thus really exist.

But since the ladder and Tremulous' clan scene isn't super active, such a cheat would quickly be spotted. And would result in an instant-permanent-ban. I'd say we're pretty safe for now.

I wouldn't say "almost nothing". But yeah they'll win less and less points.

Only problem with making the clan have 3 registered members is alot of US clans dont have members that use that page.
Ive seen alot of clans on there but theres some i havent seen and alot of people that arent under the clan thing when you click clan info but they are shown on the online list under there clans.

Also said leaders of clans are no longer active or things have changed around in clans so then how is anyone to report ?

I for instance merged clans and now we wear different tag. Can i have you remove the old clan and inforamtion and how would i register for new one without registering the clan as a whole ?

I guess they would have to start using the page. I mean registering and applying to a clan takes about 2 minutes.

Yes you can have me remove the old clan, just write me a pm on this forum (the e-mail on the website currently doesn't work).

and information and how would i register for new one without registering the clan as a whole ?

You mean how do you apply to a new clan? Login, it's on the page you'll land on.
