I need help downloading new maps but i don't really understand the whole technical mumbo jumbo, please help coz i need new maps
???
-
Please explain what exactly you need help with.
-
i don't know were the file is that i need to move the map to
i have Ubuntu 7.10
-
1. go here: http://downloads.mercenariesguild.net/maps/
2. download the map you need
3. put the file into the folder with your other maps (in your case this should be the folder "/home/usename/.tremulous/base"). If in doubt, search for the map "map-atcs-1.1.0.pk3" and put it in the same folder. Do not extract the file.

i have a problem there i did a search but didn't find anything.
all i did to get tremulous was tick the box next to it in add/remove programs
-
Well, i gave you a proper description that should solve your problem. Obviously there is a gap between your words and mine.
Please fill the gap with a more specific description of your problem. What did you do so far to solve it? Where are your tremulous files located? Can you run the game without errors?
-
I have only 1 tremulous file and that is the game the game file which gets me into tremulous and thats all.
i didn't do any downloading or anything, i just ticked a box and thats it
i have tried to get rid of it on my computer and download it off the internet but i didn't know what i was doing.
-
if any thing just go to the tremulous download site and get the game again.
what you may need to do is open your main hard drive and get into the tremulous file folder. once you get to that point wander until you find the "base" subfolder.
to me it sounds like you didnt download trem from its home site. that may be your problem right there.
-
ok, i'll try that.
does it download it by its self?
-
Which file should i download?
-
all i did to get tremulous was tick the box next to it in add/remove programs
Ok, this sounds like you succesfully installed tremulous. So there should be no need to reinstall the game.
If the game starts the very first time it creates a tremulous folder within your home directory. This folder is hidden. By default, Nautilus does not display certain system and backup files in folders. You may hide or show hidden files in a particular folder by selecting View => Hidden Files.
Now proceed with my first post here.
Besides that you may want to know that your short and squishy descriptions and replies decrease my motivation to help you. Next time i'll handle it like Lava Croft:
Please explain what exactly you need help with.

New maps go in ~/tremulous/base
To automatically download maps from servers use /set cl_allowdownload 1 and /set cl_wwwdownload 1 in the tremulous console.
-
I believe that wouldnt work if he is using stock client.
-
except for on windows, quake3 has always used the home folder (~/.tremulous/base btw, not ~/tremulous/base) to store downloads and configs.
-
Do i have to create the maps folder or should it be there already.
Because i only have 3 text files in base and no maps.
One question off the subject, are the aliens in tremulous from quake?
-
Default maps and data files are in other location. Just put your own maps (pk3) files into /home/<MyUser>/.tremulous/base/ (just into /base/, not into /base/maps or whatever, you don't have to create any directory)
To get maps, check here (http://maps.tremleague.com/base)
