2 things:
The need for an extra VMS download kinda defeats the point, also screws you on a multi-user system, thus the existence of the global install, use it.
And point 2, does your server fix the current ubuntu specific bugs on the tracker?
I just uploaded a updated tremulous-data package with the vms fix. I tried to avoid a 100MB download for a 300KB change in the first place...
The packages might fix some of the bugs in the bugtracker...
