Do you thing camping is a tactic or an excuse to stay in the base ????
i personally think it is a tactic!
WHAT DO YOU THINK!
-
i think it is a bit of both because
it is a tactic because
A) sometimes you are forced to camp due to accesive rushes from aliens
B) to lure the aliens into your base and them chase them and kills them
it is also a excuse because
A) most players are too scared to leave there comfy turret
B) someplayer are scared of being called "feeder"
and if my countings are correct there is two for tactic and 2 for excuse
SCORES

whatever you call it
well you get the picture

An excuse to stay in the base is also a tactic.

It's sometimes useful to stick with you turrets in order to force aliens into wasting evo points. If you've got your base crammed into corner with a wall of turrets infront (very common on ATCS for example), Tyrants can end up getting killed before doing any damage to the base. Sooner or later you end up with a weak alien team and a far stronger human team. This fails miserably when you have a terrible base, though...

There's also the psychological aspect to opposing teams. If your opponents are doing well, sometimes getting all of your team to camp in the base for a bit - making your enemies run up against your base defenses and defending teammates - will irritate them enough that they become sloppy. They start piling up outside the main entrance to your base, constantly sending people in to try to "kill teh camparz" and miss the beefed up assault team going out the back door to their own base. I know I've participated in a few games where as humans we fed the aliens all the way to S3, camped and held them off at the front door, then sent two attackers out the back while the rest kept the aliens busy in the middle. They were so happy to have people to attack that they didn't notice anything was amiss until the OM got sawed at the same time they heard "The Overmind needs spawns!"
Camping is also done by those outside the base - it's very common for the alien team to get a few kills, evo up to goons, then sit outside the human base. In their mind, they aren't in their base so they're not camping, and the humans are camping because they won't come out. The reality is that both sides are camping, just right next to each other.
It can be a good strategy, when employed properly. There aren't many with whom I've played who know how to properly execute that strategy, but those that do know how to do it effectively. The vast majority "camp" because they just aren't that good against their opponents without the security blanket of turrets/tubes to help them.

Honestly, IMO, camp hating is the most idiotic thing to do. Why? Realism. IRL, you would spawn camp, base rape, etc. that is for some wierd reason considered bad gaming gramar, or whatever you want to call it. It's actually quite a useful tactic. I often find myself using tactics I learned from Trem. In Oblivion.

it depends but it can be both

If you see so like me, then camping is staying in base with no acceptable reasons. Mostly, aliens camp, not humans.
ATCS is basic example how aliens usually camp. They get big, stay just outside of human base and wait until unarmed humans pass by. If not, they yell "camp camp". Aliens got advantage here and aliens should try to destroy some buildings, not humans.
There are plenty of reasons to stay a while in base.
1.Base is heavily attacked, humasn MUST defend or they loose.
2.Some important building is missing or smoking. It can be some things, No arm/medi/tele, smoking react/tele, no turrets etc.
3.Waiting for a teammate to go out. Solo a tyr is possible, but 5 out of 6 times you fail on it. Having a teammate with armor and weapon helps a lot.
4.Base movement. Its nice to have someone to kill those dretches.
5.Cant get out of base. Behind every corner, its a big alien. Humans are forced to defend. They rush corner, and rest in base, repeat.
6.After a failed rush while you and your fully armed teammates are killed by bunch of dretches, its wise to stay a while near base, to defend possible counter-attack from those feeded aliens.
7.Protecting a important structure on SD. If you cant build arm/medi/tele, then its wise to have someone in allways defending position. Loosing it ends game, so its worth alot.
Some things are encouraged.
1. Usually its not acceptable to stay in base to earn cash. Shooting bullets is normally way faster earnig method. If you got othing, stay behind a teammate.
2. Usually its not acceptable to stay in base to drain evos from opposite team. I mean, if you are s1 and you know there is only 1 goon, staying in base until there are only dretches left is not a good style of play. Same thing is for tyrants.
3. Usually its not acceptable to stay in base to get stage advances. Earn frags, do not wait them to come to you.

Good point, Mets. If you have a reason it's not camping. E.G. building or defending from rushes. I usually do to prevent (myself from) feeding, because without support... it gets much harder.
