Title: Help i am a newbie
Post by: Exige on May 23, 2008, 09:28:50 am
I started palying tremulous yesterday and chose to play as the aliens (because I  have didnt like the humans, too easy to kill aliens),but I have probelms killing anyone as an Dretch. The game says just go up to an enemy to hurt them, but when I tried that (for about 4 sec touching a human) he didnt die, so how do you kill ? Also when you are a Balisks how do you grab an enemy? and how do you use the poison a Booster gives you? Basically how do you kill as an Alien (any type).
Any help would be much appreciated.   :D

Look up. Head bites do like... 93 damage I think it was.

Also when you are a Balisks how do you grab an enemy?
I don't know... I never use them.

You use it automatically.

Basically how do you kill as an Alien (any type).

Hide and sneak.

Dretch head shots do 96 Damage.  Whatever you are, aim for the head.
Basi grab is a bitch, its a lot easier in 1.2, but sadly no one really uses it in 1.1 much.  You just have to look at there leg while touching them.  Do it from behind or you die.  You need to look up so as to hit them in the torso not the legs, but if you look too far then you lose the grab, so a bit of practice is needed.
Poison deals damage over time to them, depending on there armour.  If they use their med kit it cancels the poison and gives 30(?) seconds immunity.  Always use poision if you can, aside from anything else it makes a dretch head shot deadly to non-helmeted people.

Hiding and sneaking is the best way :).  People never look up, so sit stick to the walls and ceiling as much as you can.
Don't forget they get radar at s2 though :).
Also, poison skirmish works well, run by and poison them, they instantly blow there medkit, wait a bit then re poison.

Do remind yourself of the fact that if you want to hit a Human in the head, you have to aim slightly above it's head.
Another great thing to do is to see if you can spot a good player, and just spectate him for a few games. You will be amazed at all the stuff you can pick up from just watching.

He probably is touching them on his screen but he's lagging so much it isn't registering.

Try playing on servers where you have low ping. If this isn't possible or preferable then try servers with unlagged. If that isn't an option, try 'leading' your shots.

When you are a basalisk, grab them and try to jump on their head if you can, then look down and swipe,
i think 2 headswipes to a human with no helmet should kill him.
And when you are a dragoon try and jump over the humans head and look down when you are over their head.

dretch storm = a lot of pain and distress for humans

Were you talking about the server or just a bunch of dretches? Seems like both are a pain in the ass.

No no, just the bunch of dretches one - although I can certainly see why you thought I was talking about the server.
